The ambiance is considerably enhanced by new table linens and fresh flowers creating a more elegant dining experience. The Kung pow cauliflower was delightful although a bit too much oil. The fish and shrimp dishes were exceptional. Presentation was excellent and the wait staff was attentive, thoughtful, and professional.
Sonoma has been our favorite "special occasion" restaurant for several years. We loved the Princeton venue and though we miss what was special about it, Sonoma continues to be the excellent restaurant we remember so fondly. The food always was and continues to be the best in the area. The service, which integrates many of the old Sonoma staff with the former Ceres staff, remains excellent. Nicole, our server, did everything she could to make my wife's birthday special. Certainly, the atmosphere is different, but for those of us who miss the Princeton location, the new place is beautiful and just as quiet. In short, we came to sneer and stayed to pray. We'll be back.
Was looking forward to trying Sanomas new location. Was always impressed with my Princeton dining experience. Hostess brought us to the table and gave us menus. Luckily I was catching up with an old friend, since after 25 minutes it dawned on me that the waitress still hadn’t come over to the table. I asked another server who was walking by to see if our table had a waiter/waitress. The hostess then came over and took our drink order. After another ten minutes the waitress finally showed up. She never offered an apology, and appeared to be having a bad nite.
The meal was just as uneventful as the service. The pork was cold and dry, and the crab tasteless. The frozen mashed potatoes at Trader Joe’s were far superior to the ones I was served. I was afraid to ask my guest how his meal was. He did chuckle when the waitress asked if we wanted to bring the rest of his meal home—only thing on the plate were the chicken bones.
Luckily I was able to catch up with an old friend, because everything else was disappointing, especially for the price. Training is definitely lacking here, from the wait staff to the kitchen. Sadly, I’ve had better dining experiences at a Cracker Barrel.
As much as I was apprehensive about liking the new location I quickly warmed up to the new surroundings. Princeton had everything going for it including an unsurpassed atmosphere. I was disappointed that some of my favorite selections were missing on the current menu. One in particular was the escargots. We will definitely return now that it is practically in our backyard. I hope the current owners will allow Bill Brady to make all the food decisions. After all, he and his staff is what made Sonoma one of the best restaurant in the country.
Still lots of kinks to work out in the new location. Food was good but a series of service mishaps marred our evening. Not what you’d expect from a place that’s been in business for 20 years at another location. Long wait for our waitress. Longer wait for our main course. No bread service until after our mains were delivered despite our waitress offering it. Uninspired wine list.
The menus were hard to read because the plastic enclosure pages were old and yellowed. Please replace them.
The hostess was not at the entrance and after waiting for several minutes we had to ask a wait staff to find the hostess. The hostess should always be at the front station.
Our waiter was very helpful and very good.
Sonoma-Princeton was my favorite restaurant. I had been going there for years - particularly for special occasions (birthdays, anniversaries). The menu was small but unique - always changing with the seasons. The food was phenomenal. The wait staff was extremely attentive and made you feel very special. The ambiance was intimate. It was always a wonderful and special evening - worth the price.
The magic is gone. The menu at Sonoma-Beechwood now contains many mainstream items - cup of chowder, French onion soup, etc. It's no longer unique. It can't be. The restaurant is now open all day long. The food is good - not fantastic as it once was. Probably because it's all about volume now. Most of the wait staff came from Sonoma-Princeton. They are still good and try to be attentive - they are just dealing with a lot more people so they're not able to give the individualized attention they once did. As for ambiance, it's not horrible but it's not intimate. It's just a typical restaurant atmosphere. The only thing that hasn't changed are the prices. It's very expensive. It always was (and well worth it) but now it's just high end hotel food.
Definitely the end of an era. I feel no need to go back.
VERY disappointed. They were top notch before the move to the new location. Eating there now just seems like a TGI Fridays. Having it as part of the hotel really brings down the feel. I liked the old location SO much better. The service in the old location was impeccable! Last night was mediocre at best. The food also was mediocre. It certainly doesn't feel as "special" in their new spot. I more than likely wont be back. I was hooked on EVERYTHING at the old spot...food...service...dessert...ambiance...it all worked. The new spot is a dog....bummer!
We tried Sonoma's new location at the Beachwood Hotel and was very happy with our evening. Our meals were well prepared and the service was spot-on.
We started with a Caesar salad - a nice balance of dressing in a crisp Asiago shell. We also tried the Asian Chicken and Foie Gras Dim Sum dumplings - served in a nice mushroom broth, but the dumplings offered more of a chicken taste...we really couldn't taste the foie gras. Still, it was tasty.
We both had the Rack of Lamb - perfectly prepared to our medium-rare request. The shallot demi-glace was delicious, and the accompanied potatoes (mashed yukon gold) and green beans with carrots were nice accompaniments. The lamb was a choice piece without any grissle and well trimmed. However, our recollection was that the crust on the rack was different at Sonoma's former location, which we preferred. Still I wouldn't hesitate in ordering or recommending this dish.
We finished our meal with two choices from the desert cart: carrot cake ( rich and moist,) and creme brulee (could use more vanilla) and coffee.
The wine selection was surprisingly medium-range priced. We chose a 2012 Groth Cabernet Savignon.
The room has booth and table seating and a entertaining without being intrusive classical guitarist played during the evening. Overall the room ambiance was nice and not loud.
Our server was knowledgeable, attentive and paced our meal perfectly.
It was nice to see Sonoma at their new home, and we're happy to see a new upscale choice in Worcester.
Last night we went to use our phantom gourmet gift cards that our children had given us to celebrate my birthday at Sonoma' s restaurant in Worcester. When we presented our gift cards we were told we couldn't use them because they weren't set up yet to accept them. Our dinner came to $141.00. That should have been posted at the hostess station not after you had your meal. Very upset longtime patron of Sonomas. They are posted on Phantom Gourmet list of restaurants participating. So upset and disappointed.
Having been a big fan of Sonoma's Princeton location, their new location leaves me cold. It lacks the warmth and elegance of Princeton, and at times was a bit noisy thanks to the bar and the kitchen. The scenery is unattractive - a hotel on one side and a parking lot and Rt 9 on the other. We even heard the life flight helicopter arrive at UMass Medical.
The good news is, the food was fabulous along with the service. Debbie was attentive but not intrusive. She knew her menu and was able to give us wonderful suggestions. Our meals were not only delicious but we're elegantly presented. It rated an A+. Hopefully , over time, the ambiance will once again match the quality of the food and service, making it a destination for a special occasion!
We were there to celebrate my wife's birthday. It was first time in the new location. We had a wonderful evening. Sonoma honored our request for seating next a window, the ambiance was perfect the live Spanish guitar music in background was just load enough w/o being overpowering.
Each course was superb. The entire evening was perfect. We highly recommend Sonoma.
We sat under that huge dome light in the center of the dining room. It’s a definite lumen mood killer. I noticed the artificial flowers (the green globes) are the same ones that have adorned the room for a decade. THe service was good but we never really engaged with our waitress. Nuovo is our go to spot and they know how to engage the diner. This is a good restaurant but nothing special here. We ended up at Nuovo for a night cap.
Lunch was a total disappointment. For a business lunch, I was embarrassed for suggesting Sonoma. I know it's early in the transition, but I never expected such poor service as well as the quality of the food. Much has suffered in the change to Worcester. Our waitperson was slow for everything - from our drink order, lunch order (for salads), and a long wait to hear the dessert offerings. I have dined at the original Princeton location many times, this was nothing like the wonderful experiences of the past.
I have been a loyal, happy customer of Sonoma when the restaurant was based in Princeton. Sadly, next to nothing that stood out about that experience has made the transition to Worcester. I have my fingers crossed that its a "growing pains" type of thing and will try again in a month. Service was slow, they couldnt even find us a menu! and clearly not trained properly. Most important, my dinner was pretty "meh".
We went to Sonoma for an anniversary celebration. Saw it on Facebook and since I have had Bill Brady's catering, we had to try it. We were not disappointed! Food was delicious! Would have liked a bigger table though. I had the salmon and grilled vegetables while my husband had caribbean shrimp. While my dish was plentiful he would have like a few more shrimp. We each started with the clam chowder which was wonderful! Not sure what our dessert was called but we shared a raspberry dish that was to die for. We will definitely go back!
My wife and I recently visited their new location as a birthday treat. The decor is very upscale, and it made use feel special to occupy the room. Both of our appetizers, my ostrich and her tuna sashimi, were excellent. Her sirloin steak was cooked perfectly for her (and she's fussy), while my Korean short ribs were properly savory. We think the desserts could have some more variety - most were little cylinders of something. However, the coconut sorbet in a coconut shell was a fun end to the evening.
Sonoma has been my favorite local restaurant for almost 15 years. I was very excited to learn they had moved to Worcester., which is closer and more convenient for me. We went d during the first few days that they were open and were greatly disappointed. They just weren't ready for prime time. They had grossly underestimated the number of customers that they would have and they did not have sufficient staff. The presentation of the food was mediocre and not at all like what we are used to at Sonoma. The service was terrible. The new location is noisy as compared to the comfortable and intimate location in Princeton.
I think that they will improve and will give them another chance in a month or so. I will then revise this review as appropriate.
Nothing beats Sonoma. Nothing. There are lots of restaurants choices in and about Worcester County, but this one is always the very best in fine dining. There is not one single aspect of your meal that is overlooked. Each course is exquisitely prepared, presented and extraordinarily tasty. Their new location is interesting in that it's not as romantic and intimate as their former location in Princeton. However, the restaurant is beautiful, the classical guitar is an amazing touch. If you're looking for a very special place to have a spectacular meal this is your place.
First time at the new location, had been to Princeton once a couple years ago on Valentine's day with my wife and another couple. Wasn't that impressed back then, but gave them a bit of a break considering the holiday. Went to the new location at the Beechwood hotel on Friday night with my wife and another couple to celebrate their recent engagement. Again, wasn't all that impressed with the menu selection or the food quality. Sirloin au poirve was okay, not great. My friend ordered the salmon but didn't like it and barely ate any of it . The waitress asked if she wanted to take it home - my friend declined of course - and I was surprised that the waitress didn't ask if there was something wrong since it was basically untouched. Considering how expensive they are, there are a lot of other restaurants in the area that I'd recommend over Sonoma.
We had previously dined at Sonoma's prior location and were excited to tryout the new Worcester location. The restaurant had only opened as Sonoma the week prior. The décor has not changed from the prior incarnation of Ceres Bistro (even the signs remain in place as new signage is on order). The service definitely has a few kinks to work out with some crossed lines of communication and moderate delays in service (the bartender was overwhelmed and did not even have a bar back, though one was made available when we suggested it to the manager). However, the food did not disappoint -- it was delicious and creative as always. We will be back again and fully expect that the restaurant will grow into the new space!
We love Sonoma! We usually go there for all of our special occasions like birthdays and our anniversary. It is definitely one of if not our very first favorite restaurant. The service and food are excellent! Sad that they are moving to Worcester but hope to continue going there. Highly recommend!!!
