We were seated right away with our reservation. We requested patio dining but none was available. Our table was nice, not too close to the door or kitchen. Service was prompt. Salad and entrees were delicious. My husband had prime rib prepared as ordered and I had the mussels appetizer. The sauce was great and I enjoyed slurping it like soup. Our friends had the filet and a pasta dish and everyone ate every bite. My only “complaint”: the restaurant is upscale with prices to reflect. Bread is not provided so I ordered a fresh bread basket for the table to make sure I had plenty to enjoy with my mussels. The basket was a small sliced half baguette, not even heated.
Steak was over cooked burnt black all over and had to send it back. Replacement was cooked ok but I wouldn’t go back as many better options available nearby.
The seafood linguine was good, perhaps a bit lackluster. The steaks and the calamari were delicious. AND the service was amazing.
Such a pleasant and delightful staff. Great service-delicious wild salmon.
My friends and I had a wonderful lunch and really enjoyed ourselves. Great setting, service, and food.
Net net: I'll be back for more!
Why four stars? When the bill before tip for 3 people is $225, I have certain expectations about the food and the service. I struggle with being understanding of the restaurant's "pandemic" challenges in both the back and the front of the house. I don't want to wine about how things SHOULD be, I hope I can stick to reviewing what IS and whether I'll return. 'Nuff said.
Ordered a "three course meal" of oysters, salads and mains. IN THAT ORDER. And I repeated that a couple of times to the server.
There was three sauvignon blancs on the "by the glass" menu. I ordered the "dry" one. It was California fruit forward. I dreamed of a glass of Sancerre. I guess Sonoma has to be All California Wine unlike Petaluma.
The salad came out first. So I just let it sit.
BBQ oysters came out next and they were great. Three of us shared.
I got a half a dozen Fanny Maes from Canada and to be polite the oysters were "tired" but not quit "off". Next time I'll try the bluepoints.
The pear salad with raspberry vinaigrette was dandy. We shared it. My bride loved it.
My bride had the ravioli. She really liked it. I've never seen "striped" ravioli before.
My DIL had the the salmon which was well cooked and the garlic mashed potatoes were a nice complement but missed garlic and oil on the greens.
I loved my 1 1/4 lb (my guess) lobster for $55 that night. The. Fries were "white". I.e. under cooked
Tried to order crime brûlée with berries but they were out by 7pm.
Again net net I will be back.
Very good server!
Our reservation was for 7pm, we were sat at a table by 7:25. When making the reservation, their site says they give a 5 min grace period of holding the table/reservation. It was well after the five minute grace period before we were seated at a table.
I had made a reservation on open table, and in the notes remarked that it was our 6 year wedding anniversary. Also mentioned that my wife and I have celebrated our anniversary there on two other occasions ,and came back because we enjoyed it so much!
Now possibly because I have been in the industry for so many years in the past that my expectations might have been set a little high, but I did not feel like we were being welcomed and treated as guests that have chosen for the third time to celebrate their wedding anniversary at Nima’s restaurant, Sonoma Grille!
I personally know the owner Nima and feel that he is a wonderful man who really cares about his guests inside the restaurant and outside in the community.
So the only reason that I am not giving five stars across-the-board is simply due to the fact that I don’t believe anyone bothered to check the notes on OpenTable and realize that it was our anniversary dinner, and that when we arrived we were asked if we would like to sit inside or outside, which I had made very clear in my comments on OpenTable that we would like an outside table.
Unfortunately I felt that our server was mediocre at best, and I say that with the understanding that maybe she was super busy, and did the best that she could. Not once did she acknowledge to us our celebrating our anniversary, or bother to engage in any sort of gentle conversation as most servers do in order to ensure that their guests feel comfortable and welcomed.
Of course Nima spent some time at our table chatting with us, but I expect no less from him as he is a wonderful individual and I have known him for many years through this industry.
Nima did comp our desserts and we are grateful for that.
My husband & I sat on outside patio for happy hour & had clams, beer and an aperol spritz. Told the waitress we wanted to chill before ordering dinner and she honored that. I had the grilled salmon and my husband had the pappardalle with tiger shrimp, spinach and tomatoes. Both were tasty and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend.
What a great dinner! The seafood is fresh, delicious and the staff is incredible! Our first time here and will NOT be the last! We highly recommend it. We created our own seafood platter with steamed crab, oysters, mussels and tiger shrimp cocktails. With our caprese salad and wine we had a feast! 5 stars all the way around! Try it!
Perfect spot for lunch or brunch in Sonoma. Very clean great Food and very good service. Also has parking which is hard to come by in downtown Sonoma! We will do it again!
Our server (Cameron) is fantastic! Food is good EXCEPT the bread which costs extra...we are okay with paying for the bread but then do expect quality bread.
I enjoyed the outside sitting and that I controlled the pace of the dinner and the waiter was very attentive….
Really charming restaurant abs our waiter was excellent with a great sense of humor. Patio is great and the heaters keep it plenty warm.
Nice atmosphere. Good food. Decent service. Only thing - waiter could have been more accommodating, we had an inquiry about food item he didn’t know the answer and that was that. It would have been nice if he offered to look into it with the chef or manager rather than no response. Also hesitated when we asked for umbrella shade , umbrella was right close but instead guest traded seats but still one had to have sun in face. Overall had a good experience. Will be back.
We we seated immediately upon arrival. Several staff members passed our table without acknowledging us. After 10 minutes I finally decided to flag a waiter down and ask who was going to be our waiter. Waiter never provided us with daily specials. Food was delicious.
Service was a little slow at first but the manager noticed and sent us a complimentary appetizer. That was very nice!
Two of us had crab cioppino. It was good, loaded with seafood, but cracking the crab was messy and unnecessary. It probably would have been better without it. The other diner had a vegetarian pasta fish which she said was just ok.
Food was pretty basic and nothing special. Way overpriced for what it is. Many better options in Sonoma Square.
The mushroom risotto was really good. They oyster sampler was good but there was no explanation of the different kinds, plate was just plopped down in front of me. Homemade spinach ravioli was a far cry from homemade, would not recommend this dish. Staff was friendly but not very attentive. Nice ambience, outside are was nice.
A bit too loud….food good for the money. Would definitely eat there again!
Food was delicious and waitress was terrific! The patio is a lovely place to dine
The food was a disappointment. The shellfish and the squid in the pasta dish were cooked until they were rubbery. Had to send back the broccolini because it was so tough I couldn't cut through it with a knife. I expected much better but felt it was only so-so.
Great experience and food.............................. :)
Excellent food and excellent wine m. The patio was a perfect dinning experience!
Great local place. Love the oysters! Very loud ambience.
We chose this restaurant to meet up with friends because it was halfway between Santa Rosa and Napa where we were each staying. We sat outside in the patio which was very nice.
Everything we ordered, steamed mussels, caprese salad, pear salad, a risotto and a pasta dish with shrimp were excellent. The staff was attentive without being hovering. We thought it was a good value for Sonoma.
Sonoma Grille is an outstanding restaurant. The menu is terrific and includes all kinds of seafood along with several other choices. The bar is great, the wine choices are many and the service is great!!! The outdoor patio is beautiful and more conducive to a conversation rather than inside but overall a great place to eat!!!!
As it was we chose this restaurant to celebrate a birthday. It took awhile to get our appetizer and almost 45 minutes to get our main course. Not sure why the hiccup but only after we asked the waitress to check on our meals did things get going. The manager stopped by our table and within a short time we had our main course. The food was fabulous - cooked to perfection.
Great place for good food. Service was excellent. Very comfortable and great ambience
Food was great and waiter and service were above and beyond. Recommend it highly. Good value for Sonoma.
The service is excellent as is the food. We choose to eat at the lovely and cozy outdoor courtyard. Menu is somewhat limited but overall this was a wonderful meal and experience and would recommend Sonoma Grill without hesitation.
Great service The French Onion soup was great
Wonderful food surrounded by a wonderful ambiance. Service was great as well
We were told ahead of time the bar is great, the food is ok. Our food was good but not over the top, so as usual, listen to the locals. Very good clams however. Nice wine list and overall nice ambiance in the outside seating.
Delicious! Our new favorite spot in Sonoma. We will be back! The seafood and fresh pasta are unreal.
Great spot - terrific food (nice menu) and just a little but away (couple blocks) from the super busy Sonoma town square .
We sat out back on the patio. The ambience was very pleasant. The service was professional. We each had a pasta dish. I had saffron pappardelle with shrimp, my wife had fettuccini with rock shrimp in a "red" cream sauce. The food look good but the flavors were rather bland. The pasta itself was well made, the shrimp on both dishes were good, but the seasonings didn't "pop" or make you go "ahhh!" They have a mini micro brewery and I tried their "homemade" IPA. It was pretty good! With so many good restaurants in the Napa/Sonoma area ya' gotta give yer best every time, or.... just saying. Nice atmosphere, good service, average food, pricey.
