Great place with great service. Nice wine list and healthy food
We enjoyed a cheese plate and a couple of glasses of wine each in the outdoor patio area. The wines were excellent and the cheese plate had a good assortment. Perfect setting for after dinner wine - we had a nice dinner at Mia's, then walked over. The space heaters really do their job. Nice patio ambience with the strings of lights and the brick walls, the tall trees. The service was also very good.
Great food and service. Always a pleasure to dine there!
Lovely evening spent on an other wise rainy and cold night. Enjoyed the excellent service and wonderful food.
Excellent. Great food even better wine. Worth the visit.
very warm and inviting atmosphere in a historic building. Food was good and service was excellent.
Would totally recommend...been here a few times...service is on point
The food is really excellent, which was unexpected. Sever was lovely and very helpful with wine selections. Cozy setting with back outdoor courtyard dining, small dining room upstairs or smaller bar tables downstairs. Can't wait for weather to get nicer, outside area really did look great. Also, they take COVID precautions seriously which includes signing in should contact tracing need to occur.
The food was pretty good, but the service could use a little work. Very nice, but I couldn't tell who was our server at times. Ordered a couple of things that never came. But overall, nice spot.
Very good food. Felt like a safe environment with purifiers and the extra precautions taken.
Really enjoyed the food (great burger, delicate prawn starters), service and wine at this excellent venue - even with 0C we loved our lunch outside. Will return!
I’ve now visited Sonoma Cellar twice and am kicking myself for not trying it earlier. The amazing wine, the amazing food, great atmosphere are just the start. The staff is amazing and know their stuff. The crostinis are amazing: try the different options, you won’t be disappointed. The braised short rib and polenta has no equal.
There is an amazing and pretty courtyard outback plus two floors of seating inside.
Cheers!
Double date went well! Had a nice time having food wine and food with friends.
Sonoma is amazing! Their food is easily some of the best in Old Town. Love this local spot and will continue to go
What a lovely venue! We ate lunch outdoors in the back right beside a warm fire pit. The food and service was wonderful.
Really great vibe! Welcoming!!! Charcuterie board is worthy of a return!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit - Jen took good care of us. Pairings and dishes were well-prepared and well-presented. Comfortable ambience. Engaging service. We'll be back.
Great meal and great service. Would recommend two heaters per table for outside dining during these cold months.
The cheese plate was $19 and there were literally 5 small slices of cheese. No explanation on what the cheeses were. They had horrible flavor. We only liked the bread. Wine was not very good either.
Diego is an all-star server and so warm in conversation. The food is always incredible (try seafood especially in specials) and I always learn something new about wine.
Great food and wine offerings, and the wine garden in the back was very cozy and enjoyable. Will definitely go back.
The best spot in Alexandria. Everything from the food to the service (and of course the wine) is excellent.
The outdoor patio is very romantic with lights and a fire pit. The heat lamps made the temperature very comfortable. We loved the cheese plate and our entrees. Wonderful experience!
Amazing service and wine selection! Dinner specials were amazing as well as wine pairing recommendations. A must see for a dinner date!
My husband and I went here as an early anniversary treat and had Diego, who brought two flutes of complimentary champagne for the occasion, as our server. We were new to this restaurant, and Diego patiently answered our questions and gave us some awesome suggestions for wine. The food was incredible and everything came out in a timely manner. From the host to the end of our meal, we were delighted to have been guests at this winery. We will definitely return when we’re back in the area!
Diego was an absolute delight; he explained each of the wines in great detail. The food and wines were wonderful. Highly recommend.
Back garden was beautiful. Food and service top notch
Loved it here...already recommended it to a friend
Lovely back patio . Great wine list and the food was good!
What a fantastic lunch experience. The setting was safe, celebratory, and exactly what we were hoping for.
We sat outside. Half the ambiance lights didn’t work. Food was just okay. Service was good.
We opted to sit outside on the back patio on a chilly October evening to allow social distancing—the heating lamps were needed and I especially enjoyed being near the fire pit. I thoroughly enjoyed my glass of wine and the veggie burger. My husband thought the artichoke dip had a few too many onions, but he demolished his hamburger. Was nice quiet setting for catching up with friends.
Wonderful dinner and experience. We sat on the back patio. The atmosphere was great, the food expertly prepared. In addition to the wine we ordered, out waiter brought us some samples of wines he thought we would enjoy trying. The red wine dark chocolate brownie dessert was amazing. We will definitely go back.
The food was a solid 2.5 stars. Nothing special, but not the worst food I’ve had. I’m sure there are better quality restaurants around old town to go to.
Food was great. Sat outside in garden. Sweet spot. Took COVID precautions seriously.
Our last date night at Sonoma Cellars was less than stellar, and was a definite shift from the quality of the food in the past. I had the halibut with grapefruit avocado salsa- no grapefruit was present, the halibut was mediocre (not worth the cost of the meal), and the iceberg lettuce salad was soggy and flavorless.
My husband's meal of SoCel Shrimp was also lacking- we both needed to ask for salt and pepper.
The key lime pie was OK- it was really more like a shelled pudding than a light & refreshing pie.
We typically love this restaurant, and we were disappointed with our recent experience. I was also disappointed to see the staff in the kitchen not wearing masks; it was on their chin, but definitely not coving their nose/mouth to protect patrons from aerosols which might get on dishes.
The highlight, though, was our attentive waiter, who provided excellent service and welcomed insight on wine & meal pairings. We also love the intimate garden seating! We loved seeing some of the patrons' dogs join them for their meals.
Here's hoping our date night was a fluke, and that future meals are much improved!
Got there 5 min before my reservation and ended up having to wait 15 min before they could seat us because they gave our table away prior. This was under the guise that the table prior would “only be there for drinks” so when I arrived the host said that he’d go “kick them out” meaning: they still needed to finish their drinks, pay and have the table cleaned up. Then that didn’t happen so I waited for another table in the back which again, needed to finish, pay and clean up before we could be seated. They were all super nice about the situation but frustrating nonetheless to have a 7:30pm confirmed reservation only to be seated at 7:45pm. For the inconvenience we were told we would get a complimentary bottle, that didn’t happen either.
Date night with my wife. Great service Great food and great ambiance
I’ve never had a bad experience here and make it a point to keep coming back since they have opened!
We really like Sonoma Cellar. The food this time was really great from appetizers (chicken tortilla soup and salmon crostini) thru main courses (hanger steak and beef shortribs) and the dessert (apple gateau). The wine list is short but has some good selections (we chose a very nice petite sirah). We also really enjoyed what I would call the 'nautically themed' upstairs dining room in which we were seated, it spurred a number of conversations between myself and my wife. Our server was also very nice and attentive.
