Sonoma Bistro & Wine Bar - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Dinner was "fine" nothing spectacular... Decor feels a little like Panera but add the a bar and waiters... Service was good, there were menu discrepancies with different prices listed for same items on different menus. This was a date night, and felt more casual than special...
This was our first time to try Sonoma for a birthday brunch and we regretted it. My mother in laws "Belgian" waffles were so tough she could barely cut them and her scrambled eggs were brown and way over cooked. My husbands omelette was also brown and over cooked. My eggs Benedict was cooked perfectly, egg was nice and runny, but the salmon tasted like it had come out of a can. Maybe if I had more than a teaspoon of hollandaise it would have given it more flavor.
We love Sonoma but it looks like we may have better luck ordering off the dinner menu from now on.
I want to love Sonoma. All of my friends love it. I'm ok with it. I don't think they do anything specifically wrong-maybe silly pricing of 12.50 for la crema chard. First pour was short and I thought maybe it was the end of a bottle, second pour was generous... Maybe I never really know what to order.... Really it's just me. You should try it
Had heard great things. Third time there. Service is typically slow but this time it took over an hour to get food, 45 min to get bread to the table, and the waiter was scarce. It was Valentine's and maybe understaffed, so maybe management just had bad planning.
There are a few more things on the menu that I want to try before giving Sonoma a final grade. But I think it is a 'one more chance' place. Service was average - we weren't even told the dinner specials (although I heard other tables being told). My wife's pizza looked good, but my beef stroganoff was average. And the bowl was at least twice as big as the portion that came in it.
Not sure if they are trying to be a wine bar or a grill, but the fusion doesn't seem right. There is no 'lobby', so people that are waiting for a table just hover around the front door intently watching you eat.
We met friends for a get together to get caught up. We sat on the back patio. Our server was very attentive and the food was very good and fresh!! It was the first time our friends had visited and they plan to go back...even though they live on the south part of town. The only request is to increase the wine selection, especially reds. We will pass on the great experience!!! Thank you to the staff!
This restaurant is in a good location and used to be really special. I think it was simply an off night for the wait staff: greeted with, "are there just two of you?" once we were seated. Drinks were poured light. "warm spinach and goat cheese salad" was not warm, it was cold, uncooked spinach. Feels like a "used-to-be-a-special-place" restaurant. Staff needs a morale booster.
Sonoma is a great place to have dinner. The food is always perfect and the cocktails are perfect. We had dinner with friends there and the table was ready at the reserved time and was in a nice quiet part of the restaurant so we could visit. The server offered several suggestions which turned out to be so good I want more! I can't wait to go back!
Overall, I had a great experience here, but I have a feeling that less tolerant, less patient people would not have felt the same. First, the positives. The food was delicious. Perhaps more importantly, the server's wine suggestion was out-of-this-world good and beautifully paired with the food. The server was not only friendly, but actually also entertaining. Now for the negatives. My date and I were sat at a table that was so close to the one next to ours that it was impossible to consider it an intimate experience, something one definitely wants on a Valentine's Day date. Service also was not very prompt. We sat with waters for probably ten minutes before the server took our drink and appetizer order. I forgive the restaurant and blame these slight blemishes on the massive amount of business it had on that special day. Ultimately, while it was not a perfect experience, Sonoma's positives convinced me it would be a great place to take a date on a less busy day.
I'd never used Open Table before and this was one of the only restaurants left with availability on Valentine's Day. Never been to Sonoma before so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm so happy that I did. The lemon basil pasta w/shrimp was AMAZING! We had the Starborough wine and it was also wonderful. The atmosphere was very romantic, not very loud even though it was clearly crowded on Valentine's Day. I liked that the host placed the menus so all the couples with larger tables were side seating. I'll definitely go back!!
Due to a hectic schedule, we were late making our Valentine's Day plans so we had to take the only reservation available at 4:45. We were running late and I called to let them know it would be closer to 5:00 and they said no problem and were very kind about it which was very nice on Valentine's night when I knew it was busy. The service was great, and the food was excellent. We did not feel the slightest bit rushed. The prices were also quite reasonable. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the total experience. We will be going there again.
I love this place because its nice enough to take someone out too, but you don't have to worry about it hitting you in the pocket book. I come here all the time and the food is great, but the service seems to be slow. The servers are nice though so its not something that bothers me too much.
Definitely recommend this place for business lunches or a nice date out.
Very diverse menu, so chances are there will be something to appeal to everyone. The food was well prepared and presented, and excellent. Wait staff were attentive and friendly. We were seated immediately. We sat in the front patio, where the noise level was very low. From my brief time inside the restaurant, it also seemed to be relatively quiet. Wine list has some nicely interesting choices. Desserts were excellent.
This is a neighborhood spot for us, but even if it weren't, we would likely travel to eat well and be treated well here as is nearly always the case. Great management, great cooking, and great service are usual, and so we brought a guest this time. Another successful evening!
we have been to Sonoma several times and are always pleased with our meals....food is delicious and they are attentive. It was great for a Fathers Day meal and not too noisy. Had the crabcake as an appetizer and it was fabulous.. as was the Citrus CHicken...
I'm not quite sure how this place wasn't overrun on Mother's Day! I am a California transplant myself, and Sonoma's menu encapsulates the fun, and daring fusion choices the state prides itself on. My mother was thrilled with the BBQ Salmon Tamale, as was my Grandma with her Cuban sandwich. I thoroughly enjoyed every savory bite of the chorizo burger, as well as the Blueberry Butter Cake for dessert! And their wine list holds it's own! Definitely will be making a return shortly!
I went here with my grandmother and my 2 year old son after church for Mother's Day. Our waitress, who was nice, didn't do the best job at being attentive. She kind of left us there after being seated. Didn't bring bread until we asked (which was quite a long time after we were seated) and my hungry son was getting antsy. I am sure it was due to it being busy, but that was the only complaint. The food was awesome!
Again, a very good meal at Sonoma. Food & Wine magazine isn't going to write an exposee on Sonoma anytime soon, but the food is always quality - it is the only place in town that has not even delivered a so-so dish. Buffalo calamari and the crabcake to start (as always) and did not disappoint. The trout, the steak, and the pizza were all well prepared and hit the spot. Just wish the vinaigrette hadn't been dowsed all over the steak.
