Sono Japanese Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Fantastic sashimi and sushi with the omakase being terrific overall. The chicken yakitori that was fried at the end is a must! Service was very good initially, but then slow when the restaurant got busy later in the service. Also incredibly loud and the backs on the booths need to have better support since you feel the person in the booth behind you. Will return, but would likely prefer sitting in the main part of the dining room.
Took my Fiancé for Birthday dinner. Food was excellent and wait staff was attentive. Noise was moderate and not a bother. Excellent choice for pre-show dinner. Close proximity to the Performing Arts Center. Had the Bento box and enjoyed it thoroughly. Enjoy!
Good sushi and fresh sashimi here. Tab for 2 people (with cocktails) ran about $90 before tip, so the price was reasonable given the downtown area. Service was ok--waitress was decent but the bar was a little slow with our drinks. Once the food came out all was forgiven: edamame was perfect, yellowtail tasted great and the rolls were awesome. I'd eat here for lunch, or just not order drinks next visit so I don't have to wait so long.
I think something has changed at Sono recently. Previously I never minded paying more money for sushi but after this visit I will think twice before coming back. The rolls are much smaller and I don't think the fish is of the same quality as it was previously. The drinks we ordered were good but the bar tendered took 15 minutes to being is water after we asked for it twice.
We went to Sono based on our love of Sushi and our very good previous experiences. However, on this evening we were very disappointed. While the edamame was very good and plentiful, the main course was delicious but surely not plentiful. We got four different items to split among the four of us. There was not not enough food to share and we spent almost $100 with the tip. It felt like we were eating and sharing some appetizers rather than the main course. At other sushi restaurants for the same amount of money we got much more food to share. We left there still feeling hungry. It also took a long time for us to get our food. Afterwards someone in our party suggested we go to Cook Out for dinner because we had not gotten enough to eat! Based on this experience we will not be going back.
The food here is excellent -- very creative interpretations of traditional Japanese fare. The fish for the sashimi and sushi is very fresh. For fans of rolls, this is the place to go. The combinations are both unusual and tasty -- for example, the Spider Roll that includes freshly fried softshell crab. The service is friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We'll definitely be back!
Sono already has a strong reputation and is one of our favorite Asian/Sushi restaurants. With the addition of their new executive chef, the menu is evolving with some tasty additions. For lunch, the Chef's Choice Bento Box includes a terrific selection of fresh sushi and sashimi, along with a delicious "tuna taco." There are also some new bowl dishes and specialty rolls that we'll certainly give a try on our next visit. The service is attentive, but not over-bearing. A winner in the ever-growing downtown dining choices.
We were celebrating our anniversary. As soon as we checked in with the hostess she wished us a happy anniversary. The waiter was helpful in giving us vegetarian and vegan options. During our meal they gave us complimentary champagne for our anniversary and when they realized I don't drink alcohol they substituted the champagne with ginger "beer". It was an all around great dining experience!
They were good about accommodating the group of five of us, but the service and kitchen couldn't get it together. Each person's meal came out separately and the last person got his food just as everyone else finished theirs. Not what I call good service. It wasn't even that tasty!
