Son Cubano - New Jersey Ratings and Reviews
My overall experience here was great. Came in 20 minutes late and i was still accommodated promptly. Our waiter Cesar was just great. Always made sure we had drinks on our table and always made himself available, not like other places where the waiters just disappears.
At first I was contemplating to cancel my reservation due to some of the reviews. But I was glad i didn't. I went with friends to celebrate my birthday. Our waitress Claudia was so sweet and attentive. The food was pretty good I had the lobster another had the salmon and she loved it. It was fresh and well season. The cocktails was so good I had the Hennessey Guava. Go get your own experience and you might like it
I came for a birthday dinner...The wait with reseverations was about 1/2 hour the service was great...There was a small mishap with my dinner(brought the wrong meal😞) they quickly advise the kitchen & the correct meal was served hot within 10 min. Also complemented with a Free dessert. Overall great experience & a view to die for.
At first when we were seated, we had no service for almost 30 minutes...to the point that we came close to just leaving. One of the restaurants notice us and when discovered that we had been ignored, she took on our table herself and truly did an outstanding job. She was very attentive, interactive, and saved our night.
Food was very good. Expensive, but the view makes up for it as well as the ambiance. I made a comment about birthday celebration via open table, and they did come out with a dessert before we ordered... They charged us for the one they brought, which we didn't eat... And the one we did order. A little unhappy about that. They removed it from the bill immediately though once we requested it.
I would certainly go back and try this again. My wife and I both ordered the seafood paella and we were disappointed in that we found it quite bland.
However, there are so many other menu choices we would like to give it another try. Scenically outstanding location.
The ambient and service was top notch, we had an amazing view of Manhattan. My only disappointment was the food, I order the Red snapper ceviche and was overcook and it seem not freshly made. The ajillo sauce for the sea bass was missing flavor and definitely salt. I will think about twice before coming back.
There was a fundraiser going on while we were dancing, so they stopped the music the DJ was playing and they allowed someone raffling tickets by the bar on the microphone for nearly 40 minutes which was very annoying and we missed out on our dance time. Totally ruined the night. We were outside waiting for valet and could still hear the guy calling out raffle numbers. These types of events should take place in the middle of the week and end by 9 pm, not on a Friday where people go out for anniversaries and dates etc. Especially after paying a lot of money for dinner and drinks.
I brought my wife here for our anniversary this past Wednesday. Everything was subpar except for the amazing view of the NYC skyline.
Our waiter came over, didn't introduce himself, and spoke maybe 4 words in total during our visit. Didn't follow up to see how our steak was cooked, didn't refill our waters, etc.
The churrasco steak came out and was cold and cooked medium rare instead of medium well. We asked for ketchup twice for our yuca frites and never received it. $45 for a cold steak and cold fries - awesome! The sangria tasted like Welch's grape juice and had zero alcohol in it. We were offered dessert, but I was already turned off completely from my experience there.
I would not recommend to anyone.
We arrived at 9:50pm for a 10:15pm pre scheduled dinning and we ended up waiting for one hour to finally be seated. Once we were seated the music was too loud and everything was very slow. After we ordered it took almost 30 minutes to wait for an appetizer than another 30 to 45 minutes to wait for the main course meal after receiving the appetizer. The food presentation was poor not very appealing for a such a high class restaurant and the taste of the food was not tasty at all. The food had no latin or cuban taste to it at all. We had to ask for the bill because we noticed that they were almost closing and when we finally got the bill the bouncer or security worker was rushing us to hurry and pay cause they were closed even after we explained to them that we just got the bill. I understand the restaurant had a large crowd that day but I'm sure this is the usual and they should be used to it. Once we paid we were escorted out and all the doors was closed while a large amount of people waited outside to pick up their car from valet. I requested my car way ahead of time from the valet app and I ended up waiting for about 30 minutes outside for my car. The only positive thing from the night was the place was beautiful and the ambiance was great but I think the dj played the music to loud. Overall I think for the experience I had it was too expensive, and my friend whose birthday we came to celebrate turned out to be a big mess. They need to be better organized and spend more time on making the food better.
Son Cubano knows very well how to charge a party of 7 guests $300.00 but did not know how many slices of cake to cut for the 6 friends + myself at the end of the night. One of my friends did not get a slice of cake, I had to give her mine, and I was absolutely furious because since their prices are what they are, their service quality should reflect the amount that is charged upon their consumers. Also, before that, we continuously had to chase down our server to take our order. My two friends and I had to keep asking the bartender to get the server to check on our table. From prior experience as a server, you need to be able to be flexible and make sure ALL your tables are cleared before you could walk around aimlessly and hang out at the bar. Horrible horrible service, I was not happy, neither were my friends. Son Cubano needs better management, particularly someone who knows what's going on within the venue at all times and if the staff are taking their jobs seriously and actually completing tasks -- the title of manager is not just a bragging right you use to impress customers or to make you more in "power" than others. Learn how to do your job as manager and MANAGE the waitstaff better. WE HAD A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
I was not very happy because we travelled from Philadelphia especially to have dinner at the restaurant and they didn't give the table that I asked for. We had to wait and they gave us the worst table, we decided to wait little more and the same thing another table without a nice view. I will not come back to that place.
Outstanding place. Loved it.. I recommend it to anyone!!. Definitely will be going back again and again!!!. If your going to go with a large group. I suggest to reserve in advance because tables to fill up. But it is a huge place. High End restaurant. Valet parking available as well...
I had made a reservation for an outside table and when I went they told me that all the outside tables were full, and that I had to wait about 30-45 minutes for a seat. The food was a little pricey but very good. Other than that it was amazing. The employees were very nice, the view was amazing as well. Defininalty will consider coming back.
Great for Weekday Lunch....not too busy....great view..can have a quiet long conversation
and afterwards walk around and take pictures of the NYC Skyline, see the World Trade Tower
and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge on a clear day.
You are directly across the West Side of NYC around the high fifties to the high sixties streets.
Good view of Cruise ships and Trump buildings. Have not been there for dinner but with two
huge bars, I can see this place rocking at night and weekends and being very vibrant, alive and
lots of cool people.
The food is great tasting as well as great in presentation and creative in the way different ingredients are blended. The bread came with Guava strawberry butter that had a light pastel color....my guest thought it was a special cheese spread.
Restaurant is Beautiful.....BUT the food was horrible I ordered a lobster mash potatoes it was hot on top and cold at the bottom as if it was microwaved....ordered Flan for desert it tasted like it came out of a can .....the chef tried to compensate with offering other dish but that was horrible too (flavorless).....this place is good to hang out for drinks n good music
