Love! It was a wonderful night!
Unbeknownst to us it was Taste of Leucadia the night we came to Solterra. This was my second time in a month to Solterra, returning bc I loved the trout the first time. Very disappointed this time - it was ALL CAPERS - and of course much louder bc of the event. I plan to call and find out which trout was the "real" recipe bc the first time was absolutely fabulous! And one of the other guests found his beef burger overcooked.
Great spot in Leucadia and very nice to have wines from the winery on site. The wine list is good and all of the food items I ever ordered there have been fantastic. Our server was superb as well.
The service was very good, and our servers were friendly; however, the noise level was so out of control that we couldn't even hear each other talk. And then when the live music started on top of that, it was extremely unpleasant. Also, there were a limited number of entrees, the prices were high, and the food was mediocre at best. I would not return to this restaurant, even if I had a gift certificate.
Solterra offers a really varied menu, so it is great for a family reunion, or for any group who like to share plates/tastes. We like to start with mixed salume and cheese, olive platter to share. The entree items are easy to share also, and very flavorful! The wine list is amazing, with many unusual varieties made right there, from grapes grown in various regions. I tried their Petit Syrah and really enjoyed it with a filet of beef.
Food was great and the service was good. The restaurant was very busy the entire time we were there. We have been there before but didn't remember how noisy it is. Based on our last experience its not great for a 1-1 date when you want to have a conversation at a normal level. Not necessarily a drawback but be aware the restaurant portion of the establishment is small and combined with the bar area.
Good food, good wine and friendly service. Appreciate that they acknowledged the birthday we were celebrating upon arrival and with delicious complementary dessert.
We had an absolutely terrific evening and dinner at Solterra the other night.
Everything was perfect.
We enjoyed the duck breast and the trout and a glass of a wonderful Pinot Noir.
Our server Gabby was fantastic - upbeat - friendly -attentive — excellent
We really enjoyed the atmosphere too!
Can’t wait to return !!
Trout excellent! Wine also great.
We've been several times to Solterra and had very good food and wine. Unfortunately, this was not one of those times. The paella was changed to basically shredded crab and about 8 shrimp on a risotto base that tasted more like corn. The flavor was bland. Although, my wife did enjoy hers.
Everything was Fantastic!
Fabulous service. Good food and wine. Will return again.
The cauliflower tapa and the Brussels sprouts tapa were very tasty, crunchy and came in no time.
The biggest steak on the menu was a wonderful surprise served with excellent sides. We highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a good evening.
Really enjoyed the farm salad and vegetable paella! My date had fantastic meatballs paired with an excellent red wine. The staff were super friendly. Looking forward to coming back!
Very underwhelmed given the reputation and it usually being busy. Had seafood paella that tasted like mush since it seemed that all the ingredients were put in at the same time and over cooked making things like the prawns tough and bland. Good paella needs to have the more delicate ingredients added later to bring out their flavor.
Much to loud for and cold but service and wine ere great.
Disappointing food quality and service for a Valentine’s dinner. Maybe better if they did not do buffet but service also was weak and wines not impressive. Also advertised dinner at $45 per person on their website but charged $55 without a word of explanation. No where near $55 value for dinner. Half glass pour both miserly and over-priced. When we were done, we just wished we had chosen somewhere else.
We spent our Valentine’s Day together there and it was amazing. We loved the food, the service and the overall atmosphere. We definitely plan on attending. You must get the paella!
A lively venue with great food and service and great wines that are made on the premises.
We really enjoyed our dinner there. They even had live music.
Brian, our server was fantastic! The best service!
Must have been an off night for the kitchen. Burger was burned. Steak for two was oddly over cooked (but still ok) but cold with the accompanying bread mostly burned. Chicken jidory got a negative review from our party. Service was good, and they were gracious enough to remove the burger from the bill. First bottle of wine wasnt great and we ditched it after a couple glasses, but the second was much better.
Food was delicious! Super fresh ingredients, well prepared, beautifully presented. Will absolutely go back. Loved the wines too.
Solterra is always a stop when I visit family in Encinitas. The menu changes, so there are always new items--along with the favorites: charcuterie, olives, patatas bravas. The fish sandwich is outstanding, as is the beet salad.
Great atmosphere1 Food was delicious so was the wine. Service was perfect!
We usually get the tapas but this time tried the burger & salmon, we enjoyed our dinners very much :)
I was not happy with Solterra this time. They had LIVE Music and it was so loud that i could barely here my friend who was sitting across the table from me. Also the cheese plate was bad.
stale yucky cheese. there are many better places in SD and in Encinitas
Wonderful wine bar! Knowledgable staff and great wine club. ask for Nick... He is the best!!!!
First time visit. Great place. Never had the wines so went with recommendations. Pretty good wine. I want to go back and try some other varieties. Liked the charcuterie but wished they had more meats/cheeses and less onions. Definitely a parking challenged place. Ended up in dirt across the street and no cross walk to cross over. But other then that, really looking forward to next visit.
A bit noisy from the street traffic to the occasional train blowing by, but still a fun spot to meet a date or for some afternoon/evening wine and small plates.
Great house Cabernet. Food was very good. The Brussel sprouts were over the top! 3 main dining areas, the bar was very loud, but the barrel side was quiet. Outside by the fireplace looked like a good date spot. Servers were knowledgeable and friendly. The person at the front was not very friendly.
Went there for New Year's Eve Had the mushroom soup that didn't taste like mushrooms The filet tartar was decent The main course selections were pretty lame I had the pot roast which was very fatty I'm willing to give them a try again their menu looked interesting
The menu on New Year's Eve was lacking, and definitely not worth the price. I was looking very much to trying this place, as I have just moved back into the area, and am always trying new places. I would have a difficult time recommending this restaurant to others after my experience.
My wife and I like to come here a couple of times per month and have always had a good experience. This particular night there was a wedding party onsite and they were sold out of the Hanger Steak at 7:30? The team made it right for us and made my wife happy, which is the hopeful end result of any night out! The server was less informative and attentive than we are used to, but average. We will definitely be back and chalk this one up to an off night.
It was either a new menu or chef, but the food was definitely better than 6 months ago.
The paella had a nice combination of flavors and the hanger steak had good flavor but lacked something on presentation.
I do wish they paid a little more attention to having a gluten free menu.
Glad to say we'll be back again soon.
Great food - it seemed like they had an off night on this visit however. The server was MIA for 15 plus minutes at a time ( initial greet after seating , then after food delivery, and then after plates cleared 15 minutes for check) even though the restaurant was very slow. We are usually VIP status there as I know the owner very well -perhaps the night before they were slammed with holiday rush, but definitely everything was not up to its usual standard. The food was still good but the service and lack of overall attitude kinda ruined it on this visit.
Solterra is definitely our favorite restaurant in Leucadia. It has a unique, warm and friendly ambience, a great menu that changes just often enough to avoid repetition, an excellent wine selection and a very professional staff. The winery is a nice bonus.
The wine cellar is a warehouse and would be good for groups who like wine.
We ordered the octopus, the asparagus flatbread a d cauliflower. Each meal came out burnt. I had to check to see if my mom was doing the cooking. It was quite bad, the octopus took charred to a new level and the flatbread smelled like burnt bread before even tasting it. Hands down the worst meal of 2017. The wine was decent, but I would pass on this place.
