Solterra Winery and Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Great house Cabernet. Food was very good. The Brussel sprouts were over the top! 3 main dining areas, the bar was very loud, but the barrel side was quiet. Outside by the fireplace looked like a good date spot. Servers were knowledgeable and friendly. The person at the front was not very friendly.
Went there for New Year's Eve Had the mushroom soup that didn't taste like mushrooms The filet tartar was decent The main course selections were pretty lame I had the pot roast which was very fatty I'm willing to give them a try again their menu looked interesting
The menu on New Year's Eve was lacking, and definitely not worth the price. I was looking very much to trying this place, as I have just moved back into the area, and am always trying new places. I would have a difficult time recommending this restaurant to others after my experience.
My wife and I like to come here a couple of times per month and have always had a good experience. This particular night there was a wedding party onsite and they were sold out of the Hanger Steak at 7:30? The team made it right for us and made my wife happy, which is the hopeful end result of any night out! The server was less informative and attentive than we are used to, but average. We will definitely be back and chalk this one up to an off night.
It was either a new menu or chef, but the food was definitely better than 6 months ago.
The paella had a nice combination of flavors and the hanger steak had good flavor but lacked something on presentation.
I do wish they paid a little more attention to having a gluten free menu.
Glad to say we'll be back again soon.
Great food - it seemed like they had an off night on this visit however. The server was MIA for 15 plus minutes at a time ( initial greet after seating , then after food delivery, and then after plates cleared 15 minutes for check) even though the restaurant was very slow. We are usually VIP status there as I know the owner very well -perhaps the night before they were slammed with holiday rush, but definitely everything was not up to its usual standard. The food was still good but the service and lack of overall attitude kinda ruined it on this visit.
We ordered the octopus, the asparagus flatbread a d cauliflower. Each meal came out burnt. I had to check to see if my mom was doing the cooking. It was quite bad, the octopus took charred to a new level and the flatbread smelled like burnt bread before even tasting it. Hands down the worst meal of 2017. The wine was decent, but I would pass on this place.
We made a reservation and we were seated in the Wine Barrel storage room, rather than the bustling bar room. Perhaps this more desirable to some ( I was somewhat disappointed)... I just recommend noting to the restaurant where you want the be seated. I had just selected standard versus outside, which made me think we would be in the vibrant bar atmosphere. Outside has heat-lamps, so i suppose that would be preferred if they do not take reservations in the bar. The wine storage room is pretty much just a small warehouse with tables. Much quieter and much less ambiance of an actual restaurant.
Great wine bar and restaurant. Found this place using the Passport card I received as a gift. All the wines we tried were excellent, food we ordered was great, as was everyone else's we saw. The ambiance is casual and comfortable and the staff was very friendly. We joined the wine club and cannot wait to make this our local place to go for a glass of wine. We belong to some wineries in Napa/Sonoma but cannot get there frequently enough for local events. This will be much easier. Very excited to have this in our backyard!
Nice place for impromptu gathering. An order of lamb burger was sent back bc it was cold. It was returned very quickly but suspected it was just microwaved even though I asked server and he replied no. Burger was ordered medium rare..came back well done. Wish it was made to order again. Dessert was comped but feel it could have been handled better.
We were seated outside by the fire pit, which was nice. The outside area is quite cozy. The concept of a winery away from the vineyards is interesting and we could see the wine barrel storage area from the outside. We didn't go inside so we didn't see the inside of the restaurant.
the outside patio is very small. There was a live musician which we didn't enjoy - he was way too loud for the space, so it impacted our conversation making it difficult to hear each other (and we didn't particularly care for the music - personal preference).
The wait staff were very attentive and friendly.
Of five plates, the bolognese and the steak were good. The starters (papas brava and croquettas) and the main course paella were mediocre.
We just discovered this place although it's been here for a couple of years? Went there for casual dinner and wine the other night. Pleasantly surprised because North Count San Diego food is generally exceptionally mediocre and expensive (with a few exceptions). The taps menu is creative (the aparagus and cheese flatbread, pork belly, and beet salad were quite good). Nice selection of inexpensive wines and unusually, give you an option for 1/2 glass so you can try a couple and still drive. Manager came over to talk and was a really nice, well-traveled guy. Can sit outside near or by a nice fire pit but not much of a view except for coast highway, or inside by bar. Not 5 star because we only give 5 stars to our favorite restaurants in the world (and we travel a lot). But very good and highly recommend this place for a light meal.
It was a lovely evening to sit out and dine CASUALLY with friends. We sat out front which is literally on the sidewalk with the trains and traffic going by. We brought friends who had not been to Solterra and really liked it enough to join their wine club. After filling out the membership application, Solterra promptly lost the detailed application, leaving the couple distressed.
I have been driving past Solterra for some time now and always thought it looked cute. My parents were in town to visit so we decided to give it a try and it did not disappoint. We loved the indoor/outdoor feel of the dining room and the rustic modern ambiance was lovely. And the food was fantastic. We ordered several tapas: cauliflower, scallop risotto, patatas, flatbread, and then finished with the seafood paella. We loved them all and I cannot wait to go back to try more. The wine was also good. It's very interesting that they make it all themselves and use grapes from three different regions. So a fun tasting experience as well. Highly recommend!
Very noisy. Service was inadequate. Waiter was arrogant and for the most part invisible. In fairness to him I did not pay attention to see if they were adequately staffed- regardless his attitude was unnecessary. Food was very good but main entrees were pricey for the portion size. Might be a good location for lunch but if you are looking for a nice place to have dinner and a good conversation with friends (and not yell to be heard) this is not the place.
