Made a reservation but they overbooked and we were seated at a communal table with other folks for about 10-15 minutes and we were able to order while we waited. Food was great, wine was excellent

We dined here 6-9 months ago and food was delicious. We returned for some paella. There's a new cheap looking menu and no paella. Most of the month watering dishes were gone too. Patatas were bland and not even similar to the ones you get in Spain. My friend ordered the $36 cod fish that came with a ridiculously small piece of fish. The $38 NY strip was chewy and fatty. Don't waste your time and money here. We won't be going back.

Fantastic food in a one of a kind setting here in San Diego. I was really surprised about the quality of the wines as well being that they produce them onsite. TIP- park in back as they had a lot of spaces (we drove around quite a bit before we figured this out...)

I made dinner reservations a couple of days ago for my wife’s birthday today. We have three kids and getting out for a date/dinner is not easy. We got to Solterra for our 7:30pm reservation and the restaurant was closed for renovations and only the bar for drinks was open.

How about not making reservations available if you are renovating. Or how about contacting people that made reservations to let them know you are not open. Completely unacceptable for a business to do this. Not even an apology when we got there either.

There is a new chef. We were thoroughly pleased with the food and our service. Wine, cheese, everything was spot on. I requested a romantic table. They accommodated our request and were able to move our reso 15 minutes later since we were running late.

This will be our last time at Solterra and I had to remove them as a favorite. They’ve ruined it for us. New chef took away the good favorites and added weird choices instead. NY strip served lukewarm and a bit chewy. Paella had a couple shrimp, a few mussels, no crab or vegetables as stated. There were some 12 shrimp heads with no meat - just decoration .

Our favorite wine was on the menu but the menu “hadn’t been changed for over 3 months” and they were done with that year. Waiter tried to tell us they NEVER served it by the glass.

The hostess was consistent- didn’t seem aware of where to seat us even though we had a reservation. I feel like they are just a mess and will implode soon.

This used to be our “go to” local place.

We will miss you old Solterra!

This was our third time dining at this restaurant. The first two were excellent both for food and service. I won't go there again. The paela, which was the highlight before came out cold; lacked all the expected ingredients, and had little taste. They brought us a second one that was heated slightly more, but was still lukewarm. The octopus had little flavor. The only thing good was the Solterra wine which was moderately priced and delicious. The service was slow. We were celebrating our 20th year together as a couple. This dinner detracted from this romantic event. We live in San Francisco, but come to Southern California yearly for a timeshare we own. We won't be going back to Solterra. A once excellent restaurant is no more.

Made a reservation a week ahead and was very disappointed at being stuck in the back where there is no ambiance. I wish they had said something about the seating so we would have driven so far. They also changed the menu from what I had viewed so the entrée choices were limited. The small plates were good but they seemed to run of the things I wanted also like the 2015 chardonnay and one of the cheeses on the cheese plate. The waitress was good but overall I was disappointed with what should have been a fun event like the last time when we just stopped in for a drink and enjoyed service at the bar area. It's just not fun in the back as that is better for private events.

We had made a reservation, for a bday celebration. we arrived 10 mns early and we were sat a table, in the back, outside alley area of the restaurant. with 4-5 other tables, away from the buzz, and live music and overall "vibe" of the restaurant.

The hostess was "okay"...our waitress was really good! We ordered 5 dishes and 2 of the 5 were amazing, the other 3 were average for the price.

We had a table by the windows in the front of the bar area. Our expectation was to be able to enjoy a tapas experience. We did. We ordered the mixed board of salumi, nuts and cheeses and shared two orders of the paella. Everything was good. I did expect a bit more saffron in the rice of the paella but it was a good shareable portion and tasty. The cheese and salumi board was perfect to share with others while enjoying a glass of wine. The bill at the end of the meal was a bit more than expected but not outrageous. Overall we enjoyed it and we would come back.

Fun time with good live music and great service. The food was beautifully presented. The salads, my wife’s scallops and the creme brûlée were delicious. The chicken paella was a little too salty and just okay in my opinion. The server recommended a good wine too. I loved the atmosphere and the live music.

My husband and I ordered beer, white wine and bubbles. My husband did not care for his beer and I disliked my 2 selections. Both were very sweet—Torantas (off dry) and Rose bubbles were the house wine label. The Bravas potatoes were excellent but the hummus, octopus salad, and bread salad were not too good. The service was great. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things but it was not a good wine/dining experience.

Loved our first time here! As an avid wine lover, I was very impressed with the quality and wide variety of wines here. So conveniently located in encinitas that becoming members makes so much sense! The food was great, looking forward to trying tapas for happy hour next time. Service was great, Nick really knew his wines!

We went there for a pre-birthday party (mine). Solterra is one of our favorite spots. The entire staff was outstanding. The band Boat Rockers played all my favorites and even sang happy birthday. My wife who is a vegetarian enjoyed the paella and I had the chicken. The wine was outstanding but tonight it was all about the service.

Dinner for 6, including two kids, went well. We were seated immediately, we had a reservation. Server approached in a reasonable time. Some adults had wine and we ordered right away. Food was a little slow coming out of the kitchen but server kept us apprised of when we could expect it. Food was tasty and served at the proper temperature. Everyone enjoyed the meal and the evening.

Really really enjoyed the wine! Full bodied with a lot of flavor! Bartender was fabulous! Food prices were a bit high for what you got. Margarita pizza was good, but small! It was supposed to be a happy hour, so I expected food prices to be a deal! That being said, we did thoroughly enjoy ourselves and even joined the wine club there! We will Return!

Great time at Solterra! It was fun trying some of the new menu items. We loved the Mushroom Tartine and Shrimp al Ajillo, great flavors in every bite! Our server was happy to help with our wine selections throughout the evening (their wines are made on location!). If you have room for dessert the Decadence was wonderful, we were lucky enough to get the last piece that evening. While we were eating we enjoyed listening to live music, they bring in different musicians throughout the month. Oh and we got to sit out front, they have heating lamps in case it gets chilly in the evenings. Nice to get away from the franchise restaurants and find a great neighborhood restaurant / winery. Looking forward to going back!

Seriously - the most awful food ever experienced in the US. Paella only by name ... rice chunky and massively over cooked, unknown mixture on top. Hummous so bad no one in our party had a second serving. Really wonder if chef has any real cooking experience of any kind ... service was really charming and nice - feel bad for the staff

This is our second time and we were excited to bring our daughter to try the wines. The atmosphere is great and the wines are really good although I wish we could get flights to try several wines side by side. In any case, the food and the wines are great but our waiter was not. He did not acknowledge us at all when he approached our table and seemed generally put out to be waiting on us. When we asked him to describe some of the wines, all he said was, they are good. How does that help us choose which we would like? This happened every time we wanted to order a new wine, not just once. I happen to know quite a lot about wine and was hoping he could give us some help on the taste profile of the wines like most wineries are happy to do. . He was cold and distant and did not smile once. In contrast, he was super nice to the couple next to us who were becoming Wine club members. Not sure what we could have done to deserve the cold shoulder but it definitely affected our whole experience. A lovely place like this should have nicer servers who are happy to help you select a wine you will love.
