Great fun, i always enjoy Solterra and the sparkling rose is perfect in this heat
This is our second time and we were excited to bring our daughter to try the wines. The atmosphere is great and the wines are really good although I wish we could get flights to try several wines side by side. In any case, the food and the wines are great but our waiter was not. He did not acknowledge us at all when he approached our table and seemed generally put out to be waiting on us. When we asked him to describe some of the wines, all he said was, they are good. How does that help us choose which we would like? This happened every time we wanted to order a new wine, not just once. I happen to know quite a lot about wine and was hoping he could give us some help on the taste profile of the wines like most wineries are happy to do. . He was cold and distant and did not smile once. In contrast, he was super nice to the couple next to us who were becoming Wine club members. Not sure what we could have done to deserve the cold shoulder but it definitely affected our whole experience. A lovely place like this should have nicer servers who are happy to help you select a wine you will love.
Nice place, train track can get noisy. Date liked her wine, but a bit much for four drinks.
My friends and I enjoyed our dinner date at the Solterra Winery. Food and service were great; my only disappointment was that the singer scheduled for the evening had been double booked by mistake and did not perform.
Great great great experience
My son took me here for my fatherday/birthday and it was well worth it. Coming back to listen to music on July 26.
Sat outside on the 101, which is always nice. However service was incredibly slow and we didn't get our food until we had been there owe 1 1/2 hours (& the server didn't tell us it would be a while or update us at all). The cauliflower appetizer is incredible, but not a large portion. The paella was tasty but the portions were small, especially on the veggie paella which was definitely not worth the price paid. The lamb burger was delicious but the bun was burnt and I asked for the sauce to be on the side of the fries - but it wasn't. We were celebrating a birthday and they offered a complimentary dessert but then charged us for it so we had to wait even longer for them to correct the bill. The food was good but the service was not and the meal took entirely too long! Disappointing!!
The food was delicious, the service was among the best service I've ever had, and we were enjoying our meal in a partially open patio on a lovely June night. What could be better? Everyone loved their food and said they'd go back in a heartbeat.
Rude waiter. When I asked him what beer they had on tap, he replied “you can read the list over your shoulder over there.” All downhill from there. Chocolate decadent cake was burned. The Calamari was cold and soggy- our waiter obviously didn’t pick it up when it was done. Ring ring you moron. Oh, and he forgot to put in one of our orders. Oh, and we saw our waiter stirring my beer trying to foam it up cause again he left it there and then The bartender brought it over.
Girlfriends from around the country in for a reunion. Great food and our waitress was fabulous!!
The wine is good at this local winery that sources grapes from vineyards up and down the West coast. The food is exceptional. Far exceeded our expectations for a local winery. We highly recommend you give it a try.
Service was a touch slow, but was made up for by quality food, friendly service, and superb wine. We will be returning soon.
So here's the thing... the ambiance was fabulous, right in the heart of a room full of wine barrels. The live music and patio style lighting was charming. The damp smell of a barrel room added to the overall vibe and smells. The food was really good, and the wine was terrific. However, they didn't seem to have any clue regarding how to pair that amazing food and amazing wine. What?!?! I would think a winery based restaurant would have a sommelier on retainer to at least post a pairing option on the menu...but no. The first two wines they tried to pair with the beautiful sweet scallops were a disaster! Only when I finally asked for a chenin blanc with bright citrus and light minerality did the whole thing come together. Enjoy the evening, but be prepared to pick your own vintage.
I’ve driven past this establishment many times and saw that it had many stars so wanted to try it. We sat out side, which was very nice. Arrived driving happy hour, we were never given a happy hour menu. The waiter came over and all he told us about wines that were $25 per glass. We were in a time restraint so I order d the artichoke flat bread and my husband was hungry and loves scallops. I love garlic and that’s what all the flatbread tasted like , the scallops were ok not great. Unfortunately I think we got a snob of a waiter, behind us a couple came in and got a wonderful explanation of their offerings! I was asked my the establishment how our meal was and basically got told I have bad tastes! There are so many better restaurants in the area, I did enjoy my glass of wine but should have left when all the waiter was pushing very expensive wines! So very disappointed ! We definitely struck out !
We are members of this winery and love what a fun local hangout it is!
A really pleasant surprise. We enjoyed some delicious wine and a meal in a room filled with barrels of wine. We were treated to some live music which created a lovely atmosphere. The food is good with some creative options, however, there is room to push the envelope a bit.
We have been wine club members at Solterra for a year and a half. Their wine maker is outstanding. We have never had a disappointing wine there with many being excellent. The food is top notch. Service, particularly with Ian is outstanding. Solterra is a little jewel on the PCH.
I went with a friend for lunch and wine tasting. I wasn't super impressed by my chicken sandwich, but a fun place to hang out and sip wine. Inside seating, standing tables or outside seating watching the 101 and trains go by.
Very disappointed. They didn’t have record of our reservation. I texted a screenshot of the reservation to my friend, who arrived before me. Solterra did not take accountability for this oversight and accommodate us, but instead they gave us the option of sitting outside against the building under the heat lamp. In most circumstances this would’ve been fine, however, it was raining!!!
I’ve been to Solterra several times. Food...great. Atmosphere...great. Wine...great. Staff...a bit prickly. So if I were to ever recommend Solterra to anyone, it would be with this warning!!
The food was good although both and wine overpriced! The waiter was terrible. Didn’t even say hi or introduce himself. When we asked him questions he acted like we were annoying him.
We made a reservation for a table in the dining room. We found out that they had some type of event and the choice was either the patio or the bar area. We choose the bar area. The noise was not too bad since we sat the corner. Food was good and the wine was surprising good. Will return again.
We had read reviews saying the food was good, but they may have been written by bots. We ordered the meat and cheese plate. It was primarily salty prosciutto with a few slices of salami. The cheese "assortment" included 2 cheeses and a dab of one other. Greasy, salty almonds and some olives rounded out this "feast". The fried cauliflower and calamari were almost inedible as the oil was obviously past it's expiry date. My non-alcohol drinking companions were offered --- water. That was the only option. Skip this pretentious, miserly place.
Great food and cool atmosphere. The appetizers were delicious and the wine was good. Went twice in one week. We will be back.
Love! It was a wonderful night!
Solterra is my go-to stop for Saturday lunch whenever I am in Encinitas. The fish sandwich is fantastic and the flatbreads change all the time--asparagus, goat cheese--all kinds of good ingredients. And for wine lovers, there is always something new. Love Solterra!
Unbeknownst to us it was Taste of Leucadia the night we came to Solterra. This was my second time in a month to Solterra, returning bc I loved the trout the first time. Very disappointed this time - it was ALL CAPERS - and of course much louder bc of the event. I plan to call and find out which trout was the "real" recipe bc the first time was absolutely fabulous! And one of the other guests found his beef burger overcooked.
Great spot in Leucadia and very nice to have wines from the winery on site. The wine list is good and all of the food items I ever ordered there have been fantastic. Our server was superb as well.
The service was very good, and our servers were friendly; however, the noise level was so out of control that we couldn't even hear each other talk. And then when the live music started on top of that, it was extremely unpleasant. Also, there were a limited number of entrees, the prices were high, and the food was mediocre at best. I would not return to this restaurant, even if I had a gift certificate.
Solterra offers a really varied menu, so it is great for a family reunion, or for any group who like to share plates/tastes. We like to start with mixed salume and cheese, olive platter to share. The entree items are easy to share also, and very flavorful! The wine list is amazing, with many unusual varieties made right there, from grapes grown in various regions. I tried their Petit Syrah and really enjoyed it with a filet of beef.
Food was great and the service was good. The restaurant was very busy the entire time we were there. We have been there before but didn't remember how noisy it is. Based on our last experience its not great for a 1-1 date when you want to have a conversation at a normal level. Not necessarily a drawback but be aware the restaurant portion of the establishment is small and combined with the bar area.
Good food, good wine and friendly service. Appreciate that they acknowledged the birthday we were celebrating upon arrival and with delicious complementary dessert.
We had an absolutely terrific evening and dinner at Solterra the other night.
Everything was perfect.
We enjoyed the duck breast and the trout and a glass of a wonderful Pinot Noir.
Our server Gabby was fantastic - upbeat - friendly -attentive — excellent
We really enjoyed the atmosphere too!
Can’t wait to return !!
Trout excellent! Wine also great.
We've been several times to Solterra and had very good food and wine. Unfortunately, this was not one of those times. The paella was changed to basically shredded crab and about 8 shrimp on a risotto base that tasted more like corn. The flavor was bland. Although, my wife did enjoy hers.
Everything was Fantastic!
Fabulous service. Good food and wine. Will return again.
The cauliflower tapa and the Brussels sprouts tapa were very tasty, crunchy and came in no time.
The biggest steak on the menu was a wonderful surprise served with excellent sides. We highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a good evening.
Really enjoyed the farm salad and vegetable paella! My date had fantastic meatballs paired with an excellent red wine. The staff were super friendly. Looking forward to coming back!
Very underwhelmed given the reputation and it usually being busy. Had seafood paella that tasted like mush since it seemed that all the ingredients were put in at the same time and over cooked making things like the prawns tough and bland. Good paella needs to have the more delicate ingredients added later to bring out their flavor.
Much to loud for and cold but service and wine ere great.
