Solstice Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
They do have an interesting enough menu, and a lovely wine selection. The food was very tasty. The server was pleasant, but totally overworked. We are usually pretty good about waiting when a restaurant is very busy. It is much easier to wait if you have a glass of wine and some bread on the table. Granted we were exhausted, so maybe we weren't our most patient selves, but it did take a LONG TIME to get our wine. All in all it was a nice meal. Oh I should mention that keep the A/C up very high. I was extremely chilly, even after moving tables to get away from a vent.
We thought the food was good, and the ambiance was fine, nothing blazing about either, but certainly worth the money, and we'll go back. What was absolutely terrific was the service! We felt well taken care of by an entire team working together. Absolutely superior.
This is our second visit to Solstice Kitchen. We ate there in November of 2016 on a Southeast Vacation. We were in Columbia again and it was enjoyable enough the first time to have us go back a second time. We were not disappointed, and would definitely go back. Unique and creative menu, well executed.
We went here to celebrate my birthday and had a wonderful experience! The server was very friendly and attentive. We had the fried oysters appetizer and they were warm and crunchy and melted in your mouth! We ordered two of the seafood specials. I had the swordfish special and it was very good. My husband had the red drum fish with shrimp etouffe on it and he said it was delicious! We also enjoyed our desserts . We will definitely return and will recommend it to friends!
Cocktails - Both Bartenders are very good. Good selection of Vodka. Can improve the Bourbon List and Wine List BUT still have more than adequate opportunities to try something new.
Appetizers- very good! Would prefer some health conscious items, but what they do serve is well seasoned, properly cooked, presented well and portioned appropriately.
Salads - nothing novel but great selection as far as salads go. Not over-dressed, nice flavor pairings, portioned appropriately and always fresh tasting
Entree’s - priced a bit higher but not egregious or burdensome for business meals or a night out. Here is where they excel. Always a great option on the specials menu to complement their usual dinner choices. I have had them all except the fried chicken (cannot do this at a fine dining establishment, personal choice). Well prepared, properly cooked and seasoned, comforting and reasonably presented (although this can be spruced up).
Overall one of the better restaurants I’ve been to in Columbia and I wouldn’t have reservations about stating one of the top 50 restaurants I’ve eaten at between the US and Europe.
I have been to Solstice several times and is usually a good experience. My most recent visit was a bit disappointing. While the fish dish I ordered was ok it was extremely salty and overcooked. I am usually a fan of this atmosphere which is dressy casual but this too was a tad different. There were guest that were dressed more for a bar scene in tennis shoes, ball cap and jeans. There were also several young children. One child was in a car seat and cried for a good portion of the time we dined. These two observations are out of the owners hands but did diminish our dining experience. At this price point I was expecting a better atmosphere.
Best fried chicken ever! And the pork chop was heavenly. Can’t say enough about the main corses. Service was fabulous. It was a busy Saturday with some very loud parties near by (toddlers on one side and a woman with a really loud voice on the other). Restaurant seemed to turn up the music to cover it, so it was very loud. Hard to hear my date. Otherwise a great evening.
Celebrated New Years Eve here at Solstice with an outstanding food, wine, and service. Started with a glass of authentic French champagne...wonderful. Then wife and I shared a lobster pot pie for appetizer...delicious. Entrees were superb, with myself having the slow roasted beef short ribs bourgogne and my wife the lump crab cakes, both outstanding, accompanied with a nice bottle of Oregon pinot noir. For dessert, we shared the banana-coconut-ice cream pastry, light and delicious. Solstice is our most visited restaurant in the Columbia area, as the food and service are always outstanding.
Everything was good except for my filet. I ordered it medium rare and it came out rare. Almost purple in the middle and cold to touch. I sent it back and the new steak came out rare also. This is the third experience I have had with the filet not being cooked right. It seems the chef only knows how to cook a filet rare.
My wife pick this restaurant since it is close to where we live. I was taking in by the menu. The restaurant is cozy and they had us in the corner to enjoy the comfortable seating. Our server was great and always checked up on us. The drinks are good, but amazing crab cakes. I was looking for a good restaurant for crab cakes. But overall, the food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. I would come to dine here again.
