We weren't expecting such a great restaurant in the little shopping center. The atmosphere was wonderful and the environment attractive. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. It was wonderful evening and we will be back!
Had lunch. Spaghetti and meatballs. They were so tender . pasta cooked perfectly.
We love this place. Family owned & operated. The food is always delicious, well prepared, well presented and served by knowledgeable staff. Wait staff is well versed in not only the menu items, but libations as well.
We have dined here several times, and have never been disappointed.
Very nice and cute little restaurant. I went with my friend before a movie, as it is directly below the theater. Very nice wait staff, and good food. Portions are sized well. We were there for their 2 year anniversary, and they provided us free cake. Enjoyable experience, would like to go back and try something else.
The food tasted good and service was great, however, there was some sort of plastic wrapper in my pregnant wives pasta. Not sure what it was but I hope she didn't eat any of it before she found the little piece. Not impressed. I wouldn't expect that from a place such as Solo.
We used an Amazon voucher to try it . We had such a great experience from Start to Finish!
It's walking distance from our home, in a great tucked in area, with exactly the type of atmosphere we enjoy. Our server, Drew, did a fabulous job! He knew when to approach our table/when not to, gave us ample time between courses to enjoy each one and made great reccommondations. We truly enjoyed all our food, too! The meatballs were homemade, delicious and a bargin for the amount that was served, the pizzas are a good size, enough food for a big guy or can be shared between 2 persons.
Had the special chessecake, which was outstanding!
Lively and fun with good food and service. Cozy venue with attractive art on the wall available for purchase. We enjoyed the live entertainer whose song repetoire had very good variety..
Just good food served with passion. We love it here. Great entertainment at times too.
This was our first visit. We went for Valentine's Day . They had a very good singer providing live music. We had their prix fixe dinner with wine pairings, which was very good. Service was excellent. This is a charming small restaurant with art work, a separate bar area which is just open enough to provide more energy, and a nice small outside dining area. We look forward to going again.
Excellent food and atmosphere. Hard to find unless you know the area
Solo Trattoria is a fun and interesting place, with great and unusual food preparation, a good wine list and great staff. Every time I gzo there I like it even more than the llast time.
Great place to go for a nice quiet Italian cooked meal. Wines are great also.
I initially asked to sit at a table in the dining room and when I asked to move to a window seat which is on my registration one of the owners had to come talk to me and he had a negative attitude. I attempted to say friendly gestures but he ignored them. My date was not happy with his response nor the very blue collar waitress. Loud and uncouth. We expected refined and a warm interaction with ownership. The owner working the door was equally unapproachable and appeared put off. I'm not sure what was going on but we did not feel welcomed which is expected from a restaurant such as this.
We purchased our first original piece of art! Love the friendly staff and delicious food!
Really enjoyed the experience. Very knowledgeable about Whiskeys.
Friendly staff, great live music , good food.
Great restaurant for a date. Nice paintings on the wall, crowded, lively atmosphere, and delicious food.
Very nice local Italian restaurant, with an "arty" vibe, a good selection of draft beers and nice entrees. On a Saturday night, the place was hopping, with a pleasant soft rock songstress. We shared a meat and cheese plate appetizer, then selected beef-based gnodi and pappardelle bolognese for entrees. We selected carrot cake for dessert. All were ample and satisfyingly good.
One downside. We made a 7 pm reservation through Open Table and didn't get seated until about 7:30 pm. This was largely due to lingering diners and a full Saturday night crowd, but be advised scheduling can be pretty loose.
We were so lucky to stumble upon this adorable and affordable little restaurant within walking distance of The RItz. The first thing you notice when you walk in is all the cool local artwork covering the walls. (Our foursome purchased 2 pieces and I'm still kicking myself for not leaving with the little boat scene hanging in the bar, as well!) Since it was a quiet Tuesday night, our friendly waiter was able to follow us from our hangout at the bar to our table when we finally decided to sit for dinner. The menu was full of traditional authentic Italian dishes...just what we were hoping for. We started with a meatball appetizer...enough to share with my husband although I didn't want too! All four of us enjoyed the Eggplant Bruschetta, as well. For our main courses, three of us had their wonderful Chicken Piccata made with house-made Limoncello, which was as good as any I've tried before. My husband was craving Chicken Parmigiana which they kindly offered to make for him even though it did not appear on the menu. Delicious! The best part of the entire dining experience was the service. The waiter was fun and knowledgeable, and the owner (an adorable son in this family owned and operated business) even came out and spoke to us about the food, the local artists represented on the walls, and his family. All in all, I will happily return the next time I'm in Phoenix.
It is really nice to find an Italian restaurant that is "homey", cozy, and comfortable. Also, a big plus is that so many items on the menu are made from scratch in-house, or comes from a local source! The menu is not large, but has variety. Next time I am in the mood for pizza, I will have to give you guys a try, as I noticed some tantalizing pizzas being served to other diners! I will definitely come back again.
The crust and sauce on the pizza is so very good. A nice zing to it. Perfect crust, right amount of cheese. Could have used more pepperoni tho. Overall 5star out of 5. Or a perfect 10.
Enjoyed my first experience here very much. Everything was fresh, and served at just the right temperature. Will definitely be back again!
I took my wife here for date night and we both enjoyed the entire experience. I wouldn't say there was anything that stood out as amazing, just an overall quality dining experience. There are not a lot of options on the menu but my wife and I both found something we enjoyed.
A very nice, somewhat tucked away, to enjoy great Italian food and good wine. Exceptional service.
Have to admit my "sole" purpose for picking Solo Trattoria was that we were going to a movie & my parents cannot walk far. We were all very impressed. My 3 favorite things. 1- You feel like you are part of the family. 2.- Debbie was our server & in this day of young, couldn't care less servers, she was a classic with first class attention & knowledge. 3- We all ordered a drink and they were perfect. Three vodka drinks including a very chilled vodka martini & it was wonderful. A Pinot Grigio was excellent. From the time you walk in, they take good care of you. Debbie deserves server of the year award. She is enthusiastic in personality & knowledgeable about the family & menu. Her recommendations were good, she did just the right amount of describing & subtle up selling without being obnoxious, & she told us exactly what was made by whom. No stracciatella soup on the menu that night but she had the chef make it. It was hot, full-flavored & comforting on a cold night. We loved the beet salad. All of the components were plentiful and fresh. Not a measly salad. The mozzarella plate was also good with fresh and dried tomato & mozzarella 3 ways. We were split on the meatballs. They are among the best we have had & definitely a great mixture of meat with good density. They just needed to be hotter. A few of us thought the sauce was a little strong on sweetness & herbs. I would order them again. Entrees: Mom, the toughest critic loved the risotto. Pappardelle was excellent but there were a few pieces stuck together. Piccata was delicate in flavor, pure-non oily sauce & 3 huge pieces of moist chicken. Pizzas were very good but slightly underdone with a pale crust. I would order again but ask for crisper, well done crust. Also loved how they were not oily. Desserts were the best-chocolate lava cake to die for & trio of gelato. Debbie brought us all a limoncello on her for New Years. This will be our go to restaurant for Esplanade movies & a wonderful night out.
This was our first visit and we were very pleasantly surprised. We went in for dinner before a movie. Our server Drew was very accommodating and made excellent recommendations for both food and drinks. We will definitely go back.
Solo appeals to me as much for the intangible as the tangibles. There must be a genius in the family operating this establishment.
Pros: Great location, mass appeal, excellent food and service. The ambience is interesting because the walls are hung salon style with works of local artists, something most Phoenix restaurateurs would consider risky.
Cons: Small space, sometimes crowded. The current art selection is disproportionately poorly rendered nudes.
I wish Solo all continued success, since they offer my idea of fun food.
Solo Trattoria is one of our favorite restaurants in Phoenix. The food is always delicious, there's a very good wine menu and they make a great cocktail. Service is excellent, ambiance is very nice and we love the live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. We've been here many times and always look forward to a return visit. If you haven't been here before, you should definitely give it a try. There's plenty of parking in the Esplanade garage and they validate your parking ticket. What's not to like?
Had an enjoyable dining experience with my family! Dinner, wine and service was excellent! Parking garage was close so made it convenient! Make sure to bring your ticket with u as they will stamp the ticket!
This place was a great find (thank you Open Table), food is great, service was incredible (getting to interact with Jon the owner was nice), and wine choices are outstanding. We look forward to making this place a regular choice for future dates!!
They also offer painting nights with wine tasting - we are set for their next class.
I cannot tell you how happy I am to have found this restaurant - everything about it was amazing. Truly a romantic date place, tremendous food, fantastic, fun staff. Do yourself a big favor, and try it out!
We typically fall in love with places and then "seek no more." That is true with Solo. The food is always outstanding; service is great, beer is cold, and the wine is divine. PERFECTION
We enjoyed dining, here. The food was tasty and imaginative. The manager/owner engaged us in conversation, relaying history, as well as future plans. Support this small business! Great art decorates the wall. Frequently, there is live music.
Great food and service!! Don't miss the half off on all bottle of wines on Wednesdays.
A great Italian dinner with a twist, good wine, great dessert and a wonderful musician ... it was a great night
The food was average. I had lunch with my 8 year old son who had the cheese pizza which was $10. Pricey for a kids cheese pizza. I had the Bolognese which had good flavoring overall. We shared a tiramisu which was actually good. We ate there because we were in the area and we had a localdine coupon so the meal was worth what I paid. Without the coupon, a bit pricey $35 for lunch. With the coupon I paid $25 total, including tip and tax.
Great location. Very poor service and below average food at a premium price. We were VERY disappointed and will not be going there agin, nor recommending it to friends. Over hyped and over priced.
This family-owned and family-run restaurant delivers straightforward upscale Italian food from a variety of regions, without the stuffy service or overwrought menu that such places often have. The menu is short but complete, and the meal was worth twice what I paid; it was served with pride by a member of the owning family in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere, along with a perfect cocktail. Don't be put off by the fact that it's in a shopping center; the restaurant itself is a lovely space.
We have visited multiple times for dinner and each time the wine, service and food were above average. There is plenty of parking in the Esplanade garage (bring in your ticket and the restaurant will validate). I can only assume that their busiest time is during weekday lunch hours, because on both nights we visited there were plenty of tables to choose from. The bar area is more lively, with sports on flat screens. Tables near the front windows have higher chairs with room to spread out, and the main dining area is more traditional seating.
We have ordered different entrees on each visit; always fabulous no matter what. Our only critique would be that the chocolate cake, while delicious, could be more effectively shared if it was a bit bigger, or perhaps offer a "2-fork portion" option. The owner does make a point about the menu's healthy portion sizes on the restaurant's website video. Entree sizes were fine, and overall this approach is both admirable and consistently executed.
Nice to have a authentic trattoria in our midst. More people should eat here. Comfortable atmosphere, good food with healthy options and great service. Perfect for business lunches or dinners.
