Solbar - Solage Calistoga Ratings and Reviews
Inventive lunch fare, incredibly friendly and efficient wait staff, and one of Napa's loveliest settings. Nice menu choices between light and less light- cleverly listed accordingly. Patio setting is lovely, filtered light, lots of shade options, and the dining room is very spacious and comfy/stylish.
Appetizers (hamachi credo & burratta) were great, sommelier very knowledgeable & helpful, but the mains were a disappointment: duck was fatty and over-sauced, and pork chop quite tough and uninteresting. Then, my wife and I argued whether we could taste any lemon in the “lemon tart” we shared for dessert! It was not their best night...
Once again, we enjoyed a wonderful birthday celebration, fabulous food, and drinks. We waited about 30 minutes for a table out of the traffic flow. The service was attentive and excellent overall. We look forward to celebrating special occasions at Solbar and will be back soon.
Food was good great. Crudo and salad with kurbota belly-very good. Poke was fabulous. Octopus was good. Very nice waygu brisket. Definitely not what your grandmother made. Sinfully good MacMallan 18 butterscotch pudding. Service was fine but a bit stretched. Niced decor but no real umph. Prices were a bit high given the overall experience.
Wow - I’ve eaten at Solbar many times and while the service and wine list are still excellent, the changes to the dining room decor and the changed cuisine continue to disappoint, at very high prices. The menu is very limited and the only dish that was appealing was the veal loin, but it was $45! We opted for sushi which was fine but pedestrian and nothing special. The bar staff and servers were excellent, as always. Very sad to see how much Solbar has sunk.
Very cozy, romantic dining setting for a special occasion. The service is excellent and the food was outstanding. The tasting menu is definitely worth the price as the portions are pretty generous. I made a reservation 1 week in advance and got a cozy booth next to the fireplace. My husband and I will definitely be coming again in the future!
The food at solbar was amazing! The staff was very attentive and service was fast. Their salmon was better than all other salmon I've had. Very soft and flaky. The texture was just right. The batter on the fried chicken is better than that of ad hoc. The double wagyu burger had really good mouthwatering meat. I will definitely stay at solage again and come back to eat at solbar!
This restaurant is wonderful! From the moment you walk in and are greeted by the host/hostess and manager, you feel as though they have been waiting for you specifically to dine and they treat you like you are family. Our waitress, Bridget, was brilliant. She explained the menu as though you were experiencing the food even before tasting it. It was delightful! She was very knowledgeable of the entire menu items, what the ingredients were from the spices used to the type of butter and cream. She was even extremely well versed in a wide variety of drink options that she had you wanting to order one of everything. It was a wonderful experience at the SolBar.
SolBar is no longer our favorite go-to restaurant in Napa Valley. Since the retirement of the amazing Chef Sharp and addition of the replacement chef, many favorite dishes have been removed from the menu, portions are small, and prices have increased. We particularly miss The Lucky Pig, a roast pork creatively interpreted moo shu style Asian offering that was a signature dish of the original restaurant. The service is still good and the atmosphere lovely, but no consideration was offered in light of our disappointment that we could no longer order our favorite dish -- even after the manager contacted us to query what they might do to improve our previous Yelp! review -- but, surprisingly, when we replied, he never contacted us again, so we took this to mean they no longer want our business. In any event, we imagine there are a plethora of amazing culinary spots in the Napa Valley that will welcome us with open arms!
For a wonderful mean with exceptional service in a very lovely setting, Solbar is it in Calistoga.
Highlights: pulled burrata, hamachi crudo, wagyu brisket, butterscotch pudding (needs a new name!). Pace of service was excellent and staff balance efficiency with affability. Menu is very easy to navigate. Brought our wine even though theirs is comprehensive.
It was a beautifully decorated and furnished restaurant with a gorgeous fireplace. The craft cocktails were well balanced and imaginative. The food was very good but the service is a little less attentive than the other Auberge restaurants in the area. Be ready to wait a bit longer for service and needs are not quite anticipated. Small things are overlooked. (Water refills, napkin refolds, having to request vegetarian options/menu although there was a note on the reservation ) The soft music playing was beautiful and tasteful. A mouse ran through the restaurant during dessert but what are you going to do? It's still the countryside.
The restaurant does not match the cachet and the class of a high end hotel. There were hardly any salads on the menu, and the meat dishes were average at best. We had duck, pork, brisket and poke, all average at best. The ambiance and service were great though, but wouldn’t recommend as fine dining.
