Solanio - Aruba Ritz Carlton Ratings and Reviews
When I booked the table I made a point of writing a note that said that we were celebrating a special birthday and asked for a table with a view. The table was fine, but even with just 3 people , my back was to the beach and my view was of the door.
The service was fine, but no mention of the birthday, even though the hostess had added to the notes that we had a shellfish allergy among us. When we ordered dessert we made it clear that yes we would have it was a birthday.
It comes, no candle, nothing.
A few minutes later At the next table the whole service team comes out singing with candles , a big fuss. Really?
This is the most disappointing Ritz I have ever been to. The food was nothing special and the lack of attention to detail was astonishing.
We had dinner here for New Years Eve. The buffest was extensive and of good quality. Price was reasonable, however, the wines were too expensive. Ambiance is really nice, both inside or outside. We have been here a few times now. Also recommended for breakfast.
Calamari was probably the best I have ever eaten. The Maui Maui was fantastic as well. Pleasantly surprised. This was excellent food and the best Italian I ate on the island. Service was excellent as well. Their specialty Mojito was refreshing and very flavorful.
Lovely restaurant with a wonderful singer- they served us steak that we had to ask for a better knife to cut and my husband left a large portion because it was all fat. They gave us a free desert- definitely not worth the money. We were at the Ritz in Sarasota the week before- much better food.
Our traditional first Aruba night al fresco dining. It was a beautiful night with a nice bottle of Malbec. The food was served elegantly and delightfully by Anna and her attending staff. Also great care and help with making the meal gluten free at our request. Thank you.
Solanio-Aruba Ritz Carlton was our favorite vacation meal. The service was fantastic. The hostess asked about food allergies, the waitstaff was attentive, and the manager even came over to chat. The food was delicious and of course the view of the beach is wonderful. It was pricey but nothing out of the ordinary for a high end restaurant at the Ritz.
My husband and I were staying at the beautiful hotel and had breakfast there. I had a very nice omelette for $18 and my husband had the breakfast buffet with plenty of choices $35. On the pricey side but we were content. We decided to go back to the restaurant for our last night on the island and was extremely disappointed with our dinner. I ordered the chilean sea bass special $ 38 and my husband ordered a pasta carbonara. We both looked at eachother and admitted that were extremley disappointed in our meals, finished half and left the restaurant. It was our only disappointing meal on the island of Aruba.
We went for the well advertised Pasta Trio, which is a table prepared 3 different Pasta dishes. But lo and behold this dish was off the menu a month ago.
So shift gears to the limited Italian menu. I had the lobster ravioli was okay but salty and the filling tasted more like crab and not lobster. Not worth the high price. My wife had the daily fish special of prosciutto wrapped sea bass which she loved. The bruschetta cheese in the antipasto was very creamy and delicious.
Nice restaurant and good location but there are better Italian in Aruba. Second time we ate at a ritz Carlton restaurant in Aruba and they are just not as good as our expectations.
Good food, but decor has nothing to absorb sound. A very noisy group of 12 was seated near us and even after mentioning something to the mgr., nothing was addressed with the group, nor with our bill. We had to yell across our table to talk to each other...ruined our experience. Be careful where you are seated!
Enter a cafeteria style dining room ideal for big groups. They try to accommodate food allergies as much as they can, but do remind you at each serving that this is an exception, that you should not get used to it. Guess return costumers is not the chefs main objective. The food was excellent, their gluten free raviolis to die for and their puttanesca sauce one of the best if had. Drinks will set you back $20 a glass so I opted for a bottle. Unfortunately he did not have the advertised price wine combination as on website so felt it was misleading. Got this whole long stupid story. I don’t care I’m there to eat.
All in all this place could be so great. I think it is. Hot and miss every-time. Service is not consistent. Last time out on terrace was one of my best meals. This much less
As my review rates the food, value, and scenery are fabulous. But let's talk about the service. We were in Aruba for a full week and this was our special last night new place to try. We hadn't seen the Ritz yet and we love Italian food so we thought this would be perfect. But the service was horrible - even for 'typical' service in Aruba. Our waiter took our drink orders and food orders quickly and then only returned once with the bottle of wine we ordered. After that he ignored us. We filled our own glasses of wine when they sat empty. We never got a water refill. Other service members brought us our food over an hour after we ordered it. It was pasta, the nightly trio special, which doesn't take an hour to make. Our bread was never refreshed and we never got a refill on tap water. We couldn't find anyone to ask for a second bottle of wine. All week in Aruba, at several restaurants, we received top notch service. It was shocking that it was so bad here. When you're spending $150 on pasta and wine you can expect a certain level of service. This restaurant failed miserably at meeting that expectation.
Solanio was very disappointing as the food was good and I my Hubby and I liked the décor, however the service was beyond poor. We constantly had to flag down someone throughout our meal which was extremely disappointing. Both my Husband and I were turned off they didn't even clean the table before offering us dessert menus while there was still food on the table - this restaurant left a bad taste in my mouth.
I recommend this restaurant for absolutely NOTHING. From the moment we entered we knew that something was off. We had a reservation for five people but they insisted on putting us st a table that was set up for six even though the place was half empty.
The waitress did not have a clue as to his to serve a table. She walked past us several times and avoided asking if we needed anything. The food was mediocre at best and certainly way below what we would expect at a Ritz Carlton Hotel. THE SERVICE WAS ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. THE SERVER COULD NOT FUGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT OUR CHECK FIVE WAYS AND NEITHER COULD HER MANAGER.
By far the best dining experience we have ever had in Aruba! Everything about this restaurant is outstanding and we can't wait to go back! From the fascinating spread and breads to the kale salad and main dish which was named after this restaurant, to a very delicious dessert; we enjoyed everything. The wine was fabulous and the cocktails were the best that we've had on the island. But I must say that the outstanding service that we were given will never be forgotten by us.
Our waiter's name was Ken and he was the best and most attentive that we've ever had; addressing us each by "My lady, Miss Jeanne" and "My Sir, Mr. Paul" as he made sure that anything that we wanted he would get for us. He was always right there whenever we needed anything at all.
If I could give Solanio 10 stars, I would.
We went here for our last night in Aruba. Overall, we had a very nice evening. Our waiter was quite attentive and helpful. We sat outside which was very nice - fires lit on the beach added atmosphere. There are other restaurants with better beach experiences/views - this is set in a courtyard set back from the beach proper. Also our ambiance rating is subdued because there was a private party very close to the restaurant that was very loud. It looks like they plan such events not infrequently so you may want to inquire before booking.
As to the meal, we were given a nice assortment of breads to begin, accompanied by a unique, tasty bean spread. We skipped appetizers and I'm glad I did because my garlic shrimp was amazing - huge, flavorful, just the right amount of spice sitting in a flavorful polenta. My wife's seafood was done nicely - they custom-designed a sauce for her that she was quite happy with. Our drinks underwhelmed - my wife sent her cosmo back and still wasn't happy with it after the second try. The wine list was modest and none of the options really stood out - although our waiter did suggest a white wine that went nicely with our meals. And the menu, while more than adequate, was somewhat limited with few options not found elsewhere.
If you are looking for something a little less expensive, with the opportunity to sit outside and enjoy a friendly, attentive staff - this will work quite nicely. It's probably not the place you're looking for for a truly romantic evening, an extensive wine list or a true culinary experience.
Sorry to report..
While we thoroughly enjoy the breakfast buffet at this restaurant , the dining for dinner was another story..
The waiter, unfortunately, I do not think understood english well and when I asked about a few things, and entree and dessert, I did not get correct answer..
food was VERY salty and not at all to as good as expected..and $$$ to boot!
