My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed a rare night out at Solace on Saturday. We enjoyed the aesthetics of the restaurant as well as the menu. We started with an amazing 3 cheese plate-was very tasty and considerable for two people. We additionally shared mussels, beef tartare and the warm spinach salad. All three (shared) entrees were good, well proportioned and attractive. Of the three, I enjoyed the salad and the mussels most.
The only complaint I have is the bathroom circumstance -since we were eating downstairs I had to wait 10+ minutes to go to the unisex bathroom which wasn't very clean (and was used by a worker for the 10 minutes I was waiting during my dinner).
The restaurant was quiet for conversation; the lounge was a bit more lively. Our dinner (salmon appetizer/sea bass entree) was exquisitely prepared and beautifully presented. The portions were a bit small and no sides included. Only two bathrooms available resulted in a small wait.
I love the food and the ambiance the most!! Our waiter was fantastic, very happy and friendly and very attentive. The food is creative and tasty I wanted to lick my plate! We love to bring friends and visitors here for a good down town Encinitas experience.
Lovely evening upstairs at the Moonlight lounge. Unique decor added to the ambiance. Katy was a wonderful and attentive server, but wasn’t hovering. Wine was great, the Slow Braised Lamb Pasta was so much more tasty than I had imagined, and my husband ordered the roasted beet salad and a cup of the tomato bisque soup. We had the Gluten free Graham Cracker crust chocolate tart for dessert. Super fantastic finish to our meal. We would both go back again tomorrow if we were still in town. LOVELY evening overall.
Delicious food, fantastic drinks, great service, and the chance at a view. It was pretty quiet for a Thursday night, but it was early. We sat inside because it was a little chilly, but a light jacket would have made it worth it to sit outside. We started with six oysters, and each had the pork chop with smoked kale. I was a little surprised we weren't asked how we wanted them cooked, but it was delicious, anyway. We'll definitely return.
The food is superb as is the wait staff. Great focus on fresh food prepared with the flair of a true gourmet! We really enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich, salad and soup seen in the photo. Every once in a while the Coaster or Surfline train rolls through when one must pause in mid sentence prividjng another unique twist to a wonderful dining destination. 🌞🤙🌈🇺🇸
Absolutely delicious! Would have 5 stars if I had a more attentive waitress. The food was absolutely sensational - and I'm beyond picky when it comes to food. I had the brunch veggie hash with perfectly cooked poached eggs, perfectly spiced veggies (cooked al dente with all their natural goodness shining through the chipotle hollandaise sauce) - oh man! I'm already dreaming about ordering that dish again!
The shrimp and grits app was good but the burger and porkchop were ok. 1 app, two meals, 2 beers and 2 glasses of lower end wine totaled $117.00. I just did not feel that the experience was worth $117. $9 craft beers are a bit high compared to other establishments especially as they serve the beer in a 10 to 12 oz glass. Wine seemed to be a better value. The wait staff and kitchen could not decide which fish they were serving and we ordered dessert but it was not turned into the kitchen. Overall, the appetizer was outstanding but the rest was not worth the visit!
The service was a bit strange-the guy seemed slightly confused when we asked questions. He also checked up on us too often-no one likes a helicopter server! The food was amazing though! I had the veggie hash and it was phenomenal! The Solace Mary, however, was bland and uninspired.
Staff was welcoming and helpful. Seated right away and they asked if table was in a comfortable spot. Wait staff knowledgeable on menu items and cocktails. It is a lively area upstairs and more noisy with conversation. Downstairs probably more quiet. Food fresh and tasty. We enjoyed our meal and drinks. Nice spot in Encinitas!
No TV's which is a huge plus in the bar area!!!
I have dined at Solace many times. It is a neighborhood gem. Food is usually very good. the ambiance is very loud, and if that is a problem, ask to be seated outside.
I asked the wait staff about the salmon on the menu. She said she would check. Came back and said it was King Salmon.
So, why were we served sockeye salmon? there is a very big difference in appearance and taste between King and sockeye! Sockeye is very lean, thin fillet compared to King, which is far superior. And, tastier, as far as I am concerned. Why label an item on the menu as something far superior than what is served? Sounds like false advertising.
I did not care to make an issue of it that night, as I was having a very enjoyable dinner with a dear friend. But, seriously, the servers should be educated. The kitchen should be educated.
A once-great restaurant that seems to have gone downhill. Everyone of the 12 oysters we ordered had paint-chip sized bits of shell in it. 1-2 oysters might have been Ok, but this was too much. The bread for the dip was cold and going soft. The muffins weren't fresh out of the oven as they used to be. And the worst was the lamb pasta - which was undercooked (even for al dente) pasta with wilted, chewy lamb meat sitting in a tepid watery, liquid broth that lacked both flavor and thickener of any kind. The spinach in the pasta was so overcooked that it was falling apart. Don't know what happened to this restaurant - a few years ago it was unmatched in food quality and flavor. Now, the dishes struggle to live up to the descriptions on the menu. Either management has chanced, or we got a new chef on a bad day.
This is my go to date night restaurant. My husband and I love the fresh seasonal menu and the craft cocktails. The patio is lovely with great sunset views. I love that the owner comes over to check on you! Overall this is a fabulous restaurant with great food, ambiance, and a good value!
The food was wonderful. We shared a bottle of champagne and had some oysters as appetizer. Especially loved that the salmon tar tar was wild caught. Can't express how Happy I am to see solace serve wild salmon. Delicious! The only complaint I have is the hostess. They were fine. But the rest of the experience was extraordinary. Our sever was warm and kind and very well versed on the menu. Food and drink was outstanding. Would love to see the hostess more engaged and charming. Eye contact and "my pleasure" etc would really work wonderfully here.
