We always enjoy our time at Solace in Encinitas! Great oysters, tartar & shrimp & grits!
Love the cucumber infused vodka.
We shall return soon.
Always a fun, tasty meal. Neighborhood gem. Very loud--asked to be moved outside.live music
Food and service always good here...BUT...was terribly disappointed to learn that one of my favorite entrees, "Beef Cheek," is no longer on the menu. This has been my main reason for dining at Solace over the years. It was always wonderfully prepared. Please consider adding this back to your entrees!
A sweet spot in Encinitas, dined twice in two days, excellent all around!
Delicious food! We loved our meals and Justin's service was excellent! We were able to get a great reservation time for a Saturday night at the last minute.
Was looking for a place close to the beach on my way to the theater and came upon a review of Solace. When we drove by we were questioning our choice from the outside but once inside we realized we found ourselves a gem. It's California casual with windows open to the outside and rather laid back while still looking sophisticated. The food...ah the food! Absolute deliciousness. Our server was attentive and very helpful. On the downside, we had made a 5:45 reservation. The "hostess" lead us to our table but it was a hightop which was uncomfortable. The table right next to it was a regular table but the hostess told us the table was reserved. Seriously??? There were LOTS of other tables available and we also had reservations. I hate attitude and that's what she gave off. In retrospect I realize I should have spoken with her manager about her attitude and lack of customer service. Hopefully, this will be brought to managements attention.
Delicious food and fun craft cocktails. Cheddar biscuits and wonderful comfort food. Tequila cocktails are a must try
We decided to celebrate Mother's Day by having Sunday Brunch at this restaurant based on good reviews. We ordered some 'starters' that included the Jerk Chicken Wings and BBQ Basted Pork Belly with creamy grits. The starters were good. We enjoyed them.
For the main course, most of us ordered Bennies and our son ordered the Cuban sandwich.
The poached eggs in all of our Bennies were waaay over-cooked. The eggs were completely solid and one of them was almost cold. Breakfast potatoes servings were generous on one or two plates and meager on the others...no consistency. The 'Cuban' was just a so-so sandwich that bared no resemblance to the famous Florida sandwich it is named after. Our son was even okay that it was on French bread, but said they could have at least pressed it to make it resemble an actual Cuban sandwich.
Summary: The food was just okay, nothing spectacular, at least not for this Brunch. I considered whether to give an overall rating of Fair or Good, but when I asked my wife if she would like to dine here again and she said 'No', the rating became obvious.
Others may have had a better dining experience than we had, but to us, this restaurant is not likely not get a second chance to make a first impression.
We sat upstairs and the large doors were open which made it very cold which concerned us because we had a 7 month old baby. We moved tables to try to get warm but it didn't help so instead of slowly enjoying our meal and ordering more food/drinks we rushed through our meal so we could get out of there.
Food is creative, ingredients are great, service is friendly and attentive. Went for Mother's Day. The only downside (and reason I did not rate it 5 across the board) was the side patio seating on the second floor---It's right next to a massive air conditioning condenser unit and rather loud. Other than that, great experience and nice little foodie gem in downtown Encinitas.
I was excited to try Solace after reading the reviews and hearing great things from friends. It was even more exciting that was able to get a reservation for Mother's Day with less than 24 hours notice. The hostess and our server had lacked personality, and our server rarely checked on us. The food was good, and so was the coffee - I wish that I was given the option for a refill. I like my mimosas with mostly champagne and a splash of OJ, but I got the opposite and paid $8 for OJ.
Generally consistent high quality food but wait service, at times, can be spotty.
Tasty food. Had an issue with table though, my 80 year old mother not able to climb up to the high table, so we got moved to a table that was by the garage style doors that were open to let in the "fresh air" but it was soooo cold, we were misrable. We were told repetitively that we couldn't move because of resturant was busy but there were literally only a handful people eating. Finally went back to original table and boosted my mom up. Staff was nice enough trying to help us but would have liked them to understand the limits of older guests more.
Awesome happy hour, great food, great beer and cocktails. Nice service and easy going vibe. Kid friendly. Will be back soon!
Neighborhood Gem. Good food. Good service. Always fun
Great food as always. I really enjoy the ambience, it is so lively without being too loud. Finally, wonderful service from everyone!
I liked that they opened at 10:00AM for brunch, so my girlfriend & I had extra time together. The food options were unique & delicious, plus they customized a salad for me, which made it perfect. They also make a great Bloody Mary! Depending on where you sit & the weather, it can be a little breezy, but the staff was fabulous about letting us move to our "Goldilocks" table, so we were comfortable. I/we will definitely return often. (Also, parking in train lot across the street made access very easy.)
This restaurant does not provide bread with the purchase of an entree ( which are not cheap!) unless you specifically ask and there is a separate charge. There is one bathroom downstairs for everyone ( men and women) and one bathroom upstairs that is also unisex, so there was a long line all night long for both. Very strange. Not sure how that passed zoning. My food was tasty ( trout) even if there was not much else on the plate.
Food is always good. The biscuits and burgers with Tomato Jam are must tries. I've been at least 5 times and I'll be back again.
We were welcomed immediately and received excellent service throughout. It was a great place
to celebrate a birthday! The food was good, reasonably-priced and served by a very friendly
The service was very good. The wait staff was very helpful with meal selections.
The ambiance was true coastal chic. The open air feeling made the experience relaxing and casually elegant.
The deserts were decadent. Quite possibly the best Coconut cake EVER!!
The food is always fabulous. The menu is seasonally inspired and exceptional. Have never been disappointed with the food here. It can be a bit noisy and the downstairs seating ambience is very generic and lacking so I always request to be seated upstairs as it is a bit more spacious and less claustrophobic feeling. If you love yummy desserts anything they offer is amazing but I highly recommend the cinnamon roll. This is something I dream of. If heaven had a dessert on the menu this would be it. They really know how to do food here, the seasoning, mesh of textures and flavors is exceptional.
Attentive service and incredible food. The patio is a great place for lunch on a nice day.
Normally food is excellent but today the veggie hash was COLD. They did however make it again, Staff was friendly and accommodating and were happy to make it right
We went for brunch. The food and service was prompt and exceptional.
Neighborhood gem! Always good. Great service
We received great seating and service. Good wine!
Waitress was great. Fully understood that we wanted the food gluten free and was very wise about the ingredients in everything we ordered.
Sunday brunch which was flavorful & tasty. We sat outside to enjoy the weather. Our server was attentive but not overbearing or hovering. Definitely would recommend to friends!
Surprisingly good. Food was fresh and tasty. Better than expected and I liked it better than Urban Solace.
The lamb with homemade pappardelle was outstanding. It was so good I came back the next night (more birthday celebrating) so I could try the cauliflower dip which was also delicious. I appreciate having somewhere to go that serves some organic and healthy choices.
Absolutely fantastic food, drinks and service. Our server was a young woman from Houston I believe and she brought a great vibe to the table, had awesome recommendations on both cocktails as well food(the hamachi is absolutely amazing!) I was here on a first date and would absolutely recommend it for any sort of occasion.
The owners strive to create food with clean, local or west coast ingredients. Generous portions. There were a few birthday parties or other celebrations going on around my table and they looked like they were having a great time, especially with quite a few bottles of wine. Would be happy to come back.
Thank you again Chef Matt Gordon! Everything was great, loved your new shrimp aguachile, could have been a lot hotter for me though :-)
I came here with my boyfriend for an early brunch. It was his second time there and my first, and I have to say it was delicious! Everything on their menu look appetizing. I ordered the Kitchen Sink and my bf got the Bacon Benny-- both amazing! We wanted to order a dessert, but we were too full to eat it right away, so we ordered a slice of coconut cake to go. The service was great! Jason, our server, and the hosts were welcoming and kind. We will definitely make another trip up to Encinitas to come here again :)
We had great food at Solace and moonlight this last weekend. Unfortunately our service left a lot to be desired. It took us 40 minutes to get our drinks after we were seated. And we had to ensure that everyone who wanted a drink or even water had to ask before the waiter left because we would not see him for at least twenty to thirty minutes. This was disappointing because our food was excellent. We had three vegetarians and they all enjoyed their food.
Food was good; Service was very good; chairs were not comfortable and tables are close together.
The Jidori chicken was definitely sub-standard; way too much batter over too many meat-lite bones covered by too much sauce ... a real mess!
The lounge ambiance can be loud if you are wanting an intimate and quiet date night. However, I really enjoyed the creamy farro, and my friend had a delicious lamb pasta dish. The biscuits are a must-try with a dab of their special jam on them. Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. Making a reservation online beforehand really helped!
I love this place. I first went to Solace in North Park in October, and have now been to Solace at Moonlight at least once a month. We had occasion to bring another friend and introduce him to what is rapidly becoming a favorite space and they did not disappoint.
We had a variety of starters to share, and they were excellent. The cauliflower and goat cheese is what first had me coming around and brings me back every time. The biscuits are great. The mussels were very well done (but a little heavy on the smoke).
The entrees and the dessert were excellent. We took home leftovers of all but the appetizers.
I hear that the menu will be updated and I hope that we will still find some of our favorites but I look forward to some new options.
Made my reservation on Open Table specifically requesting upstairs (bar), along the west window. When we were seated, we were given a table downstairs to the left of the hostess station....no apology or comment was given to us as to why they could not fulfill the request. I DO understand that all requests cannot be filled, but NO explanation was given to us as to why the request could not be filled. NO option as to another table in the lounge or if we wanted to wait for something. This was a Friday evening, so I understand the busyness....but I found that to not have any responsibility on the part of Solace to be disconcerting. THREE girls were hostesses and none of them explained anything. I asked the floor manager when we were leaving about it and apologized. Will I still go to this place, yes - BUT I find that young somewhat snooty hostesses with zero customer service attitude a little annoying. Having been in the service industry for many years, restaurant included, I do know what good customer service is. Other than that, our evening was great. 3 * on service due to this - our waitperson was excellent.
