Sol De Mexico

We love eating at Sol de Mexico maybe 3 times a year on special occasions, food is outstanding. Just the server was very busy, I wish she can come to check more often to our table to ask if we need something, I understand it was busy day, we needed to ask for the check to pay because she wasn’t around in a while. She also was the bar tender.... anyway I will go back again food is authentic!!!!!!
Great food! Must try!
Food was so tasty!
Well, I made a reservation for Monday Oct 14th, then received a confirmation and reminder for that reservation on Oct 14th, but arrived at the restaurant to find it was closed on Oct 14th for Columbus Day. I took me over an hour to drive from work to the restaurant and finding it closed was not amusing.
OpenTable, YOU FAILED!!!
Outstanding food. We had lamb in black mole and chicken in walnut mole, also some tasty sopacitas. We'll most definitely be back!
Sol De Mexico is a gem. The food is incredible (hard recommend on the moles)
Anniversary and friends
Great food, excellent service, unbelievable drinks.
This is not your typical Mexican restaurant, more upscale than you would think. Beautiful dish presentation ,very clean and nice decor. Definitely coming back.
the food was very good
the mole sauces were terrific
we had an issue with the tequila amounts in each drink [not enough]
we had an issue with the tip being added to our table of 5
ok to add a tip but not over 20% like they did
The staff were exceptional in directing us to food options. The food was creative and delicious and the presentation was also wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant. I will be back.
Amazing food and service
Our first visit was amazing ! I found this gem in the 2019 Michelin guide. We were staying in Lakeview and this place was worth the 25 drive to lunch. The decor is very festive along with music. The owner was very friendly and his beautiful daughter did a fantastic job of explaining the menu items. The Mezcal, tequila, margaritas and drinks list was extensive. I had a cilantro margarita and a hibiscus margarita. The apps we ordered were the sopas, tamales, and guacamole excellent! We shared the chicken mole dish and a veggie dish. tortillas are homemade. The owners daughter told us that the mole and other sauces are made by her grandmother which she has memorized! Make this place a definite go to when in Chicago for truly authentic high dining Mexican!
Some of the best Mexican food I've eaten. Highly recommend the tasting menu.
I happened to see a Chicago's best episode featuring this restaurant and we needed a place to dine with friends who were coming in from out of town and they wanted to have Mexican food. I remembered the show and suggested it since it was close to the out-of-town guests. We were happily surprised at the Ambiance and The Limited menu was surprisingly delicious as it forced us to try things we hadn't in the past and were pleasantly surprised and delighted we will recommend this restaurant to all we need and will visit again hopefully very soon. Congratulations on the television show it was definitely true to its compliments.
A more upscale Mexican restaurant with creative cuisine and delicious food. Very clean with pretty decor and great service.
This restaurant is a hidden gem. One of the best Mexican for foodies of this type. The food is gourmet and absolutely delicious
This place has amazing "authentic taste" Mexican food! I truly love the experience. Been here for my birthday and an anniversary, and it's great! They go out of their way to make one's special occasion, a
wonderful opportunity for them to display beautiful decorating skills on a dessert!
The food was delicious - everything had serious spicing. This did not taste like Americanized Mexican food. The waitress was lovely and the owner made sure we were enjoying our food. We had multiple appetizers for our meal and shared them all.
The food was amazing. High quality, authentic Mexican, not your average fare. Unbelievably tasty. The atmosphere was quiet, good for conversation. There was an abundance of flavor in every bite. It was fabulous. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.
Great food and great service! Highly recommend.
Excelent service and great food. Menu was better than average.
Absolutely wonderful. From the portions, to the ambiance, to the selections, everything was made with thoughtfulness. Thank you for giving my mother a lovely Mother’s Day experience.
We loved the food and especially the mole
The service and ambiance were great
The art work and music really added to the overall experience
Can’t wait to go back
We went for dinner date and everything went well. The server even helped out my girlfriend with her food decision since shes a bit difficult when deciding.
Overall a very nice experience, food was good, love the sopa Azteca... excellent drinks
Always excellent. The moles and ceviche are outstanding. Extensive tequila selection. Support this neighborhood gem. If it were downtown you'd have to beat off patrons with a stick!
Fantastic meal. Best moles in Chicago. Each mole was complex and rich. Ask for a sampler of moles, which I don’t think is on the menu
I was delighted with my experience at Sol De Mexico...until I got an email from Open Table complaining that I didn't show up for my reservation.
I most certainly did keep the reservation. And my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch; the food was terrific.
Sol De Mexico needs to be more organized about managing their booking, though.
We hadn't been to Sol de Mexico in a long time but we found the food still as good as ever. We don't get into the city very often but it's worth the trip when we are craving gourmet Mexican food. We both ordered the poblano peppers stuffed with pork and topped with walnut sauce.
Love this place, food was delicious!
Small place, great food. It was a bit too warm inside but that's my only "complaint". Definitely would come back and would recommend.
30 for apps to come out. 45 for drinks to come out and 1 hour for food plus the place was not busy at all.
The food was outstanding. Not your typical tacos and burritos menu, which is what we were looking for. Authentic Mexican cuisine with a flare. The real bummer was the poor service. We were there on Mother's Day in the late afternoon, but it wasn't extremely crowded to have warranted such poor service. The server goofed on our order, so half the table ate first, then the other half ate about 30 minutes later. This isn't even the poor service I was referring to (mistakes happen and the server did bring out an additional appetizer for those that were waiting - she did feel bad). The bad service was the failure to refill drinks and check on our table throughout our meal. We had to constantly ask her as she was passing by for drinks, etc. You would think after they messed up our order they would double their efforts to make sure our water/drinks were filled! I really hope our experience was a fluke because their food was delicious. Nothing hurts a business more than terrible service.
Es uno de los únicos restaurantes de Chicago que en realidad es cocina mexicana auténtica y por supuesto que lo recomiendo está delicioso servicio ambiente y no se diga el servicio de primera.
We've visited SDM once before and the food is outstanding. The service was adequate and the food price was a too much considering you have to pay extra for table salsa. The habanero salsa is very good and spicy but not for the $2 per ounce they serve. Salsa should be complimentary considering your spending $20 or more on entrees and $10 or more on apps.
This last time we went on Valentines Day and the service was very slow. I will say the people who work there are extremely nice and pleasant, it's almost hard to get mad them for taking forever everytime we had a request. My wife wanted more salsa and by the time the server brought to us we were signing the check.
My recommendation is to go on off night and enjoy the delicious food, but be prepared to pay little extra for the little extras.
The food was deliciously flavored and service and drinks great. the only thing I would fault is the food came out sort of warm, not hot, and there were very few people in the restaurant, so it shouldn't have been sitting for very long. The appetizer platter is fantastic!
That was a fantastic meal - creative yet authentic and truly nice people.
Would definitely go back again.
GREAT PLACE FOR FAMILY OR EVEN A DATE NIGHT THE PEOPLE THERE ARE GREAT THE FOOD THE DRINKS THE AMBIANCE EVERTHING MADE FOR A VERY NICE NEW YEARS EVE DINNER WITH FAMILY.
Took a family member for a birthday dinner and had a wonderful experience. The food was amazing and the portions are on the large side. Left incredibly pleased and incredibly full.
Tortilla soup was so good, my girlfriend ordered it and I almost finished it all. The sopes mixtos are great as an apetizer, my girlfriend asked to substitute the chicken for plantain. The homemade tortillas are always fresh and tasty.
All the meals I've eaten at Sol De Mexico are very good and never lack flavor. I definitely recommend this place for bet Authentic Mexican food.
