The menu at Soif changes almost daily, and every dish – small plates, appetizers, entrées and desserts – emphasizes seasonal, sustainably grown, and intensely flavored ingredients primarily sourced from local farmers and provisioners.

Soif offers over 40 wines by the glass from small, artisanal producers, as well as some 400 selections by the bottle from our wine shop, available to diners for $20 over retail price.

We find our delight in discovering distinctive, expressive wines, sourcing and preparing delicious, wholesome food, and then putting it all together so when guests walk in the door, night after night, there is something here for them that is authentic – that satisfies their thirst for the soulful, the delicious, and the well made.

The price of food has gone sky high and the portions are smaller than in the past. Service is excellent, but the food has declined not only in value, but in taste - Very disappointing.

Valentine's day is often not restaurants' best occasion. we have enjoyed Soif more on prior occasions than this time around. we hated the loud rock music, which seemed inappropriate for a romantic evening. the food was good but not outstanding so we thought it was overpriced although the price might have been reasonable for a more interesting menu. we'll be back but not on Valentine's Day.

It's been several years since I've been at Soif, but the food did not disappoint. We had the cheese board, spinach salad and scallops. The scallops were perfectly cooked. I thought the portions were just right but my husband thought his steak was small and was still hungry when we left. I gave it 4 stars because it was very pricely. For 4 people, it was over $300.

Excellent food and professional service. The "pesole" was unique and delicious. Probably the best scallops I have tasted. On par with the Taste of Yosemite we had last month and restaurants in San Francisco.

The food and service were both excellent, at a level that usually seen in Santa Cruz. All of the changes made in the restaurant over the past three or four months are really starting to pay big dividends. Outstanding!

Delicious cocktails and excellent food. Every single dish we tried (and we tried many) was outstanding; highlight may have been the short rib ravioli. And if you’re a bourbon fan, the bitter liberal is one of the best bourbon cocktails I’ve had in a long time. Warm, friendly service - everything was fantastic and we can’t wait to return.

The food continues to get better with the new chef - beautifully presented and many new dishes. The prices have gone up a lot, but worth it for some really fine food in Santa Cruz.
Wine list and mixed drinks are always interesting. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Once again, the food was excellent. The new chef is doing a great job. But the service was spotty, we had to ask someone to take our drink order after a significant wait where it appeared that our waiter didn’t see us. Then, our appetizers were brought with the salads. This happened the last time we ate there as well. Soif is a nice restaurant but the service needs to improve, especially considering the prices.

Went for New Years Eve dinner. Advertised as a celebratory 5 course prefix meal.
When a 5 course prefix meal includes an amuse bouche and two desserts as courses...that’s a three course meal. I wish the menu had been posted ahead of time.
Amuse bouche was served right out of the fridge and was too cold to thoroughly enjoy all the flavors.
The mushroom toast was spectacular.
The short rib was tasty and comforting.
The salmon was perfectly cooked and there were some good flavors on the plate but it just didn’t come together into anything particularly cohesive and delicious. Slightly off mark. (My hubby and I shared so we got to try both main courses.)
The chocolate torte was delicious, and the accompaniment was necessary and excellent.
The petit fours were sugar on top of sugar. The chocolate was so rich that I did not want anything else sweet afterwards. If the petit fours had been an unexpected finale or wrapped up as a gift to take home maybe I would be a bit more excited by it, but it was an extremely disappointing “5th course”. The madeline was dry and too sweet. The caramel was delightful. The fruit jellies were pretty good.

The meal also felt a little rushed. We were hoping for a semi fancy, leisurely dinner focused on amazing food and celebrating the end of one year and the beginning of the next. It didn’t feel like a special occasion.

All in all it was a fine meal. But we frequent soif and had higher expectations for a preplanned New Years celebratory meal.

We had a large family group (10 people) that included a three year old and six year old, as well as wine connoisseur grandparents, and our experience at Soif couldn't have been nicer. The food was across the board delicious, the wine delicious, and the service was prompt and so kind and accommodating to our children. Highly recommend!
