Sofrito NYC Ratings and Reviews
I reserved a table for 2 ( my wife and I), got there 10 minutes early to see a club scene which I wasn't looking for, But I didn't let that bother me. Walked in and spoke with the hostess, she told us to sit by the bar and someone will come seat us. From afar I notice she was talking with the waiter on seating another group and two girls plus us. He wasn't paying her much mind since he was into the girls. He seated both the two girls and the group, but didn't bother with my wife and I. So I left it alone, waited 15 minutes after that and still nothing. The hostess looked at me but with a guilty look. after another 10 minutes I just walked out. It was the worst experience ever. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone unless someone that likes to waste time.
My friend and I went for restaurant week. First off the location is gorgeous right on the water. Our server was friendly. The food was so delicious. The empanadas were so flavorful as were the sauces. I had the pernil with the rice with pigeon peas and the meat was juicy and packed with flavor. Dessert and the drinks were just so yummy. We both looked forward to coming back again.
The noise level of the DJ was excessive in the dining room. The floor near the bar was wet from drinks that were spilled throughout the bar area and remained wet for a prolonged amount of time while the host and staff members walked back and forth through the restaurant. Two females danced alone in lounge chairs by the wall in very provocative and inappropriate ways. The behavior and foul language was acceptable to staff while families with children waited for tables and were dining. It would be nice if management would pay more attention to the ambiance and took more control of these situations.
Food did not have any Latin flavor it was very blan steak with white rice, beans and platano but I do have to say on a positive note the dopa vieja was good but on top of that they put an automatic 20% gratuity, the mixed drinks on the menu all had some sort of lemon juice in it making it very sour. I came to the original sofrito and was fond of it at the time but after coming again I was not to happy. Valet parking $15 plus’s tip most places in that are do free valet and hey if we want to tip $20 we can do so but let tit be the choice of the customer.
The restaurant was amazing and the ambience beautiful. The food was authentic Puerto Rican dishes. I had the Pernil with Spanish rice and plantains and hubby had the skirt steak with Spinach and plantains. It was delicious and the portions were huge. The appetizers were not the best. I had fried calamari and it was overcooked and the calamari sauce tasted like canned tomato sauce. My hubby had Empanadas that tasted great on the inside but the dough was too thick.
Appetizers aside the overall experience was amazing.
The atmosphere was beautiful and the wait staff were pleasant, however I was not impressed with the food. I got the piononos as an app, the paella for dinner, and the tres leches for dessert. The portions were big and I ended up taking most of my food home, but I felt it was overpriced and underflavored. Would not recommend for dinner. Maybe for just drinks and lounge.
I made reservations but was running late. When we reached we were seated immediately. I guess Saturday nights they have a dj and the music was poppin. Me and my man were jamming while we were eating. The food was great and the atmosphere was fun and trendy.
Let's start off with the positive the atmosphere was great and music was on par.
On the negative side
No one enjoyed their food
The white rice tasted like coconut
The calamari tasted like fried chicken
The coconut mojito didn't have the coconut flavor
The ropa vieja tasted as if there was only sofrito and no meat.
I was very disappointed with food and the service. We didn't get our meals together. Our waiter disappeared only saw him to take our orders and to give us the check , and then we got stuck giving him a $40 when he didn't even do anything. With the reviews of the restaurant I was under the impression of up to par service. However I was not impressed and would not visit here again.
This place has a very nice ambience the view is great. I don't think they should be charging you $15 valet but they do so be prepared. Upon entering the hostess was doing more talking on the phone then really paying attention. However, I was seated quickly and allowed so wait for my party which was good. Most restaurants won't see you unless everyone is present we all know that. So after being seated I ordered a drink Hennessey Colada. It was pretty good appetizers was fried calamari which was tasty and shrimp and chicken empanada. The empanadas were not good chicken was dry shrimp where??? I myself can make better empanadas. My friend had mashed potatoes with her shrimp they were awful taste like old potatoes boxed potatoes taste better than that. Oh and be careful pay attention to your bill it clearly says gratuity added with 5 or more people. Turns out they add it if your bill is over 100 bucks so pay attention or you will double tip
Food was sub-par, prices were a bit much for quality/portion sizes. Music was incredibly loud when we sat outside for dinner. Wait or could barely even understand us when ordering (even brought wrong beer although I drank it anyway instead of correcting). Would be great for a happy hour or late night drinks, dinner not so much.
First of all I got mosquito bites from sitting outside. But mostly the issue was we had 3 different severs, none of whom actually paid us attention. We Didnt get a refill on our water until we got the check. Food and drinks are over priced and 20% mandatory gratuity for 2 people (that isn't mentioned on the menu) is absolutely ridiculous but explains why the servers didn't care. Overall I wouldn't come back. If you're Latino you've had food better than this.
Sofrito on the Hudson was nice my guest and I sat out side. The music was good, overall the place is very clean food, tasty, fresh. The staff were very friendly and attentive . My drinks remained cold even though I chose to come here on a extremely hot day. Nice view Probably even better at night. I would definitely return.
