Sofia's of Little Italy Ratings and Reviews
My husband & I ate here Thursday, 8/31/17 for lunch. We sat by an open window overlooking the sidewalk to people watch, which was nice. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. I ordered the house made tortellini stuffed with meat sauce which was amazing! I rated the value only 3 stars because it was a bit pricey for lunch but I would recommend.
Pricey and a bit of a tourist trap
Food was ok, overpriced for the quality. You can do better in Little Italy. Service was ok, bathrooms were dirty. Greeter was a bit militant in trying to get you into the restaurant, but I guess a lot of Little Italy is like that,
Excellent food and service. Fair pricing. Competitive. They really don't honor reservations but try to accommodate everyone. We booked outside for 5.
they never book outside in advance. We waited about 15 minutes and then we were seated. Family get togther. the kids really enjoyed.
Originally I had reservations for my wife and I and then it expanded to 7 of us with good friends, including some friends that live in NY. The best testament was the friends from NY said, I haven't had this good of Italian in Italy, much less here. "You are making me look bad, turning us on to a gem like this here in NY" We all had separate Italian dishes and All were amazing. Shrimp - phenomenal, Veal was amazing, I had a penne with Italian sausage and crispy pancetta and spicy ariabatta sauce and I could go back every day. Great place, Eduardo was our waiter and he was fantastic.
I've been here a few times now and this was my least favorite. The service was not attentive, appitizers were small, my soup was forgotten. I had to wait 10 mins while my wife ate hers before mine finally arrived. The wine had a 400% markup on each bottle. I understand it's NY CITY but overpriced for pasta dishes. The musician was good though.
I have been here many times on my visits to NYC and have recommended people to go as well but must admit this will be my last, the calamari was literally rubber in my mouth, one piece I could not break apart in my mouth that I had to spit it out or swallow whole! The server never came by to ask how everything was but when he finally did come over we explained the situation and he just took the plate and walked away, no sorry nothing. Now main pasta dishes were good I must admit! So good job on that, then took us awhile to get bill even though I was only 1 of 3 tables in the place as it was late. So service should not have been this slow. Waiter did take calamari off bill but service sucked and for that reason most likely won't be back. And we'll the crappy calamari.
We arrived early for an 8:00pm reservation and asked to sit outside (60 degrees in February!). We waited only a few mins for a table to free up. The host offered to get us a drink while we waited outside. Made the wait much more enjoyable! We ordered a few appetizers to split - the meatballs were delicious! Service was prompt, the food and wine delicious and it was all reasonably priced. I would go back again!
We had a reservation. They had no list of names so it seemed like reservations didn't matter.....more like first come, first serve. We were sat at a table then moved to a smaller table. They never checked on us, how the food was. The water glasses were never refilled. Never asked if we wanted another drink or dessert. I will not be back.
I would like to inform that, although the food was very good, my visit to Sofia's Restaurant on Christmas Day was very disappointing. I found the waiters overwhelmed, impatient and rude. The service was extremely poor, and the waiters seemed quite annoyed when they had to be tracked down for service (a missing fork, grated cheese, salad that was never delivered to the table, dessert menu -which waiter claimed was outdated, and he seemed annoyed that we were upset that we couldn't order what was on that dessert menu PRESENTED to us). At that point, in disgust, we skipped dessert. We were literally ignored, or we had to wait more than 20 minutes, each time we requested something, because the waiters did not check on our table. Very poor business practices. When the bill FINALLY arrived, we noticed three gratuity charges, totaling close to $65.00 on a $107.00 bill. This was absurd. I went to the bar and had this straightened out with no problem. Maybe the restaurant was not prepared to accommodate the Christmas crowd, but advance arrangements should have been made to hire more staff, bartenders, etc., or perhaps the restaurant should have remained closed for Christmas.
I made a reservation online through "open table" to avoid any seating issues, specifically requesting a table for three off to the side. When I arrived at the restaurant, I was directed in from the street, pushed to a table, and unable to request my reservation. When I approached the greeting waiter to let him know the table we were told to sit at was too close to the front door and uncomfortably cold there, he looked at me and seemed very annoyed, and sarcastically said "Mamma Mia, sit any place". I and my guests felt very unwelcomed in Sofia's restaurant, there was absolutely no Christmas spirit shown. I will never dine there again. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I've eaten in restaurants in Little Italy and never had I faced such a rude reception. They do not honor reservations.
My husband and I were looking for an authentic restaurant in Little Italy to dine on homemade pasta and came across Sofia's. The ambiance was great. Very cozy and homey. The food was divine - you could tell it was fresh and made with care. The food was a bit pricey, but it's NYC, so that is to be expected. Overall it was a great experience and I would certainly recommend to a friend.
The hosts were yelling at each other in the middle of the restaurant amongst diners. I was not greeted when I walked in, the host yelled "do you have a reservation?!" at my date and I. We waited a half hour for menus/water. My date wanted to substitute the type of pasta with his dish, and the waiter did not attempt to accommodate this. Our food was thrown in front of us. We were very rushed. We were not thanked upon paying. This place is a total tourist trap. Not authentic Little Italy. Go to Vincent's--MUCH BETTER!!
Worst place they put in a tip for your meal i think thats wrong because the service was terrible. And the host was a jerk yelling do you have a reservation to anyone that walked in. And the food sucked. I was just in rome this passed summer and this place is so different the people are mean and the food is over priced and gross. Not true italian. Dont waste your breathe go to the real italy!
Table wasn't ready on a cold night with 6 people waiting and I had a reservation. Then we were seated at a 5 top very tight fit for sure. Then to add insult to injury, a table that came in later than us with no reservation was spread out next to us at a 8 top. They were so close, that the waiter couldn't get around our table and handed us the food like a picnic! Service is a problem here, but the food is good. Will I book another party there? No. There are too many options in L.I. they re not getting dinner party business, they re not up to it!
Dined there on Thanksgiving Day after viewing Parade. The owners were serving, doing a great job. it was very busy, with a family eating there for the holiday. The accordion player did a request that the matriarch of the family sang along to in Italian. Very pleasant experience!
