The food was delicious and the wait staff are friendly and attentive. Homemade pasta and bread.
Come on, overpriced Italian food that was just ok. The experience of taking out of towners to little Italy is fun, being charged $60 for seafood pasta was not. The food is average, the pizza was boring.
The food was mediocre. Also the restaurant smelled like cleaning supplies from the bathroom. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Unfortenaterly quite arrogant personal, food ok but not wow.
The waiter was not especially nice and when I asked to change my pasta for potatoes (because I am allergic to gluten) he answered very quickly and just said « look at the gluten free dishes. » Did not want to argue if we could just change the sides with my chicken (I am french and needed 2 seconds to exprim myself)
But I put 3 stars as overall for the doorman, amazingly nice.
Todo fue muy bien. Comimos en familia y todo estaba francamente bueno
From the minute we entered the restuarant I knew we picked the right place to be! The atmosphere was joyful and the restuarant is decorated beautifully. The service was great and the owner is most welcoming!
Loved the food in this old fasionioned restaurant, felt like we was in italy
The food was GREAT, but the service was terrible. We waited over 20 mins after we finished dinner to get a dessert menu.. then after finishing dessert we waited even longer to get the bill, we had to get up and request for it! Won’t be visiting there again.
the highlight of the evening was the guy at the front door screaming" No Money No Honey". Bring the crews back! at least they took pride in the food. Not worth the money. Over Priced for the quality and quantity of the food. Sofia's Special Martini was Good. Wife had the Spinach Ravioli and I had Chicken Marsala. Food was poorly prepared and under cooked. not too flavorful. I set reservations, got a crappy table stuffed into the corner next to the storage for table cloths, the fake parmesan grinder, and the ordering station. Sofia's and Little Italy have gone to crap. Definaley wont be back.
If you're interested in seeing the downfall of little Italy... stop on by.
Everything was absolutely amazing other than when we were seated by the manager or owner not sure, he brought us to an almost cleared table and brushed the white spoiled table cloth clean with a napkin then proceeded to seat us. He should have taking the extra 5 minutes to set our table up so that it was clean and presentable.
Holiday meal with family
Wonderful meal! Everything was fabulous. Would definitely dine here again.
Excellent from the minute we met the exuberant Host, to Tonio, our Waiter who helped us with our menu choices. We started with the Mediterranean Salad, Meatball Appetizer and Olives and for our Entrees, our daughter had Fettuccine Alfredo, my husband and I shared Ravioli Filet Mignon and Papparadelle Bolognese which were all made with home made pasta. For dessert we had Chocolate Pecan Pie which was nothing like I ever had and was so good! Also had Taramisu and Cheesecake and Chocolate Martinis, the martini also had expresso in it and my husband does not like coffee and Tonio had another made without expresso and it was very good. I was very surprised to see this place only had 3 1/2 stars. I am a Trip Advisor, Open Table, Yelp stalker but we were so tired and hungry from being tourist all day and we had tried making reservations at another restaurant and they had no time available so I asked them as an out of towner where they would recommend and he said Sofia’s so we made reservations and went and I honestly didn’t look at the reviews until we were through with our appetizers and I hope you read my review and give this place a try because they are super friendly, we weren’t rushed at all, it was such a relaxing, enjoyable evening, perfect way to celebrate and end our New York Thanksgiving! Thank you and we’ll see you next time we visit from Houston!
Excellent italian food and attentive service. Located in Little Italy within easy walking distance from One World Observatory.
Always excellent food, great service. Overall you can not go wrong!!
Food was excellent.
A nice good environment.
My husband & I ate here Thursday, 8/31/17 for lunch. We sat by an open window overlooking the sidewalk to people watch, which was nice. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. I ordered the house made tortellini stuffed with meat sauce which was amazing! I rated the value only 3 stars because it was a bit pricey for lunch but I would recommend.
Pricey and a bit of a tourist trap
Food was ok, overpriced for the quality. You can do better in Little Italy. Service was ok, bathrooms were dirty. Greeter was a bit militant in trying to get you into the restaurant, but I guess a lot of Little Italy is like that,
Despite making a specific seating request, it was neither honored or even addressed.
We had a great meal at Sofia's. The homemade pasta was amazing and the wine and beer options were also good!
Excellent food and service. Fair pricing. Competitive. They really don't honor reservations but try to accommodate everyone. We booked outside for 5.
they never book outside in advance. We waited about 15 minutes and then we were seated. Family get togther. the kids really enjoyed.
Sophia's was fine but definitely not the best restaurant I've been to in Little Italy. The food was standard and while all of our meals were fine they definitely didn't make an impression as meals at other places have.
Originally I had reservations for my wife and I and then it expanded to 7 of us with good friends, including some friends that live in NY. The best testament was the friends from NY said, I haven't had this good of Italian in Italy, much less here. "You are making me look bad, turning us on to a gem like this here in NY" We all had separate Italian dishes and All were amazing. Shrimp - phenomenal, Veal was amazing, I had a penne with Italian sausage and crispy pancetta and spicy ariabatta sauce and I could go back every day. Great place, Eduardo was our waiter and he was fantastic.
We had a pretty decent experience except that it was warm in the restaurant and felt like there was no air conditioning on. With that being said, the food was phenomenal and the staff was friendly. We'd go back, but maybe in the fall. Lol
I've been here a few times now and this was my least favorite. The service was not attentive, appitizers were small, my soup was forgotten. I had to wait 10 mins while my wife ate hers before mine finally arrived. The wine had a 400% markup on each bottle. I understand it's NY CITY but overpriced for pasta dishes. The musician was good though.
I have been here many times on my visits to NYC and have recommended people to go as well but must admit this will be my last, the calamari was literally rubber in my mouth, one piece I could not break apart in my mouth that I had to spit it out or swallow whole! The server never came by to ask how everything was but when he finally did come over we explained the situation and he just took the plate and walked away, no sorry nothing. Now main pasta dishes were good I must admit! So good job on that, then took us awhile to get bill even though I was only 1 of 3 tables in the place as it was late. So service should not have been this slow. Waiter did take calamari off bill but service sucked and for that reason most likely won't be back. And we'll the crappy calamari.
Very nice ambiance, tasty and well prepared food. Friendly and well trained stuff.
Everything was good.
We arrived early for an 8:00pm reservation and asked to sit outside (60 degrees in February!). We waited only a few mins for a table to free up. The host offered to get us a drink while we waited outside. Made the wait much more enjoyable! We ordered a few appetizers to split - the meatballs were delicious! Service was prompt, the food and wine delicious and it was all reasonably priced. I would go back again!
Was nice and quiet so I could have w conversation. Cosy and romantic. Wonderful food.
Everything you'd expect from a restaurant in the heart of little Italy.
Pappardelle Bolognese was superb.
The food was very good and the portion sizes were perfect. The kids loved the pizza and fettuccine.
They ran out of meatballs at 5pm!
It was good
Didn't actually eat here......had a reservation but the welcome was shocking and rude!
We had a reservation. They had no list of names so it seemed like reservations didn't matter.....more like first come, first serve. We were sat at a table then moved to a smaller table. They never checked on us, how the food was. The water glasses were never refilled. Never asked if we wanted another drink or dessert. I will not be back.
Christmas Day. Very noisy. Busy. Home cooked food.
Warm atmosphere felt like home food was delicious and our waiter did a great job. We will come back for lunch next time
I would like to inform that, although the food was very good, my visit to Sofia's Restaurant on Christmas Day was very disappointing. I found the waiters overwhelmed, impatient and rude. The service was extremely poor, and the waiters seemed quite annoyed when they had to be tracked down for service (a missing fork, grated cheese, salad that was never delivered to the table, dessert menu -which waiter claimed was outdated, and he seemed annoyed that we were upset that we couldn't order what was on that dessert menu PRESENTED to us). At that point, in disgust, we skipped dessert. We were literally ignored, or we had to wait more than 20 minutes, each time we requested something, because the waiters did not check on our table. Very poor business practices. When the bill FINALLY arrived, we noticed three gratuity charges, totaling close to $65.00 on a $107.00 bill. This was absurd. I went to the bar and had this straightened out with no problem. Maybe the restaurant was not prepared to accommodate the Christmas crowd, but advance arrangements should have been made to hire more staff, bartenders, etc., or perhaps the restaurant should have remained closed for Christmas.
I made a reservation online through "open table" to avoid any seating issues, specifically requesting a table for three off to the side. When I arrived at the restaurant, I was directed in from the street, pushed to a table, and unable to request my reservation. When I approached the greeting waiter to let him know the table we were told to sit at was too close to the front door and uncomfortably cold there, he looked at me and seemed very annoyed, and sarcastically said "Mamma Mia, sit any place". I and my guests felt very unwelcomed in Sofia's restaurant, there was absolutely no Christmas spirit shown. I will never dine there again. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I've eaten in restaurants in Little Italy and never had I faced such a rude reception. They do not honor reservations.
