Sofia - Margate
Sofia is now open 7 days a week starting with "Happy Hour" featuring specialty cocktails, premium spirits and a wine list ranging from mainstream vintages to opulent varietals.
Never got seated. Did not honor reservation. Seated people who knew owner before us. Terrible.
For a Greek restaurant the spanakopita was made Italian style and not in the Greek tradition, (with Spaghetti sauce)
The grilled meat platter was over cooked and dry, last time will visit!
The food is always phenomenal and the service is exemplary, but the hostess was remiss in fulfilling a simple request. It was incredibly loud there and I felt ignored when I asked for a quieter section away from the bar area.
The restaurant has a pleasant staff and atmosphere. Sofia personally observes thugs to ensure customers are enjoying themselves.
Great food and great service. Worth the money.
We arrived a bit early for a dinner date night on a Saturday in the summer since we were dining with a 15 month old. There were already a few tables taken and people at the bar which was nice. By the time we left, the restaurant was full but not loud. The servers and busters were on top of everything and very friendly. Food was timed perfectly and delicious. I had the scallop special with blueberry sauce - ate every single bite and am still telling people about it. This was our first time dining at Sofia's and I'm so glad we finally went because it was all great!
Our server recommend the scallops and he didn't steer us wrong. They were perfectly prepared, and the blueberry reduction added a whole new aspect to the dish.
Went for dinner. Tried tazaki with pita and the cheese plate for apps and everything was delicious. I ate chicken with a sword and that was good too. We also had a glass of sangria which I enjoyed very much. Everyone I was with enjoyed their dinner. I would definitely come back.
Our waiter was off his game, slow service, one of the meals came late, (and he created some story about that), and guests waited to begin, and an order of a second bottle of wine came so late (after meals were near done) that we had it cancelled, bottle unopened, and the waiter had the audacity to say, upon delivering our check, "oh, I took the second wine bottle off the bill" - What? It was never on the bill, it was never opened, was in his hands as he showed us, and he returned it unopened. Waiter was obviously inattentive, overworked (perhaps), but the new assistant waiter, and the bus boy were very caring.
The tapas are really good......main meals are a bit skimpy. The wine selection is ok. If you are looking for a beautiful atmosphere and some appetizers, this is a great place. The service was very good.
Overall, wonderful experience! Our server was kind and responsive and took care of us. They are very strict with their reservation policy and 20 minute timeframes for entire party to be present- regardless of ordering a bottle of wine and appetizers. I felt like I had to say something upon leaving to the same manager that came to talk to us about our late arrivals- she heard me and did some explaining. I just want people to know that they prefer to turn tables over every 2 hours so be prepared, especially if you have a larger group. The food is delicious there and they have a great happy hour. We will return, of course!
We’ve really enjoyed our previous dining experiences at Sofia’s but this past experience was quite unfortunate. Our server was especially curt and abrupt, forcing us to rush our order despite a request to order drinks and appetizers first. She refused. Only the whole order would be taken bc it was so “busy. “ Which seems off to me. Then the constant upselling which wasn’t even discreet. It was actually over the top. We fell for it a couple times and then realized she was being quite obnoxious about it.
If we do return, I’d like to be sure our server is not this individual. I’d recognize them in a heartbeat but do not remember their name.
salads are very good fish and Greek specialities are outstanding
Food and location are amazing. The thing that ruined the experience was being told at the end of the meal that we either had to move or leave as one of the Bus Boys parents where coming in and the table we where sat at was needed. They explained we where seated at a table for four and they had run out of “chairs”. We decided to leave and after walking downstairs see a line of 12 chairs lined up outside the rest room..... and they couldn’t serve coffee as the machine was broken. Not how you want to end your anniversary dinner after dropping $140.
Great atmosphere. Food was excellent! Definitely a keeper for future dining.
We have dined at Sofia's several times. We found the service to be slow in terms of delivering wine and other orders, more a kitchen/bar issue than a server problem. My wife split the Mixed Grill. The chicken was dry and the lamb chops were a bit over cooked.
Jim was a great server!
Other than enjoying being with our friends, the meal was poor! Sophias used to be one of our favorite places. The prices are significantly raised, the portions smaller and our server was downright rude! We were looking forward to a wonderful dinner and it was extremely disappointing!! The Chiliaen Sea Bass that I used to dream of having there was even overcooked.
Excellent meal in a beautiful setting. We started with appetizer four Mezze. The dips were excellent. The caesar salad also excellent. My filet was outstanding! It was cooked perfectly and seasoned very nicely. My 16 yo. ordered the Moussaka. He loved it... didn't want to share. My husband's scallops cooked perfect. We will def. be dining at Sofia again... not pretentious... just fantastic food with great service. Our waiter was attentive and a pleasure.
Even the kids were really happy about their meal selection! Great family dinner- again!
Consistently great, never a bad meal. Service always perfect .
This restaurant is outstanding , the foodies so fresh and delicious and the service is impeccable !! Thank you Damon at the bar always great to see you and your smiling face we appreciate all your liquor and food recommendations and suggestions. We will back back very soon with our friends. The live music is a great addition .
Everything we had was delicious! My husband loved his oysters and lamb chops! I had a pear salad with walnuts that was excellent. Spanakopita was fabulous! Our friends had the scallop dinners and loved them! For dessert we had the chocolate cake and the tiramisu. Both were absolutely delicious!! We were very happy with our meals and will definitely go back again soon!
Sophia’s is a lovely place. The food is always great. The service, while friendly, was a bit slow for the size of the crowd It can be noisy early in the evening, they have a great happy hour at the bar which can get loud, but that is part of happy hour. Right? Later in the evening it is much
quieter. Overall a nice evening
Crab cakes fair and extremely poor value. Shore diner crab cakes just as good and includes two sides and salad for a lot less than $32.!! Pasta with crab meat also poor. How can an upscale restaurant serve pasta from a box??
Food was very average despite reputation. Order was wrong and waitress was amazingly rude. This is billed as a higher end restaurant but the food and especially the attitude of the waitress was lacking badly.
Food is amazing. Service is outstanding. Atmosphere is lovely. A little loud for my likening but so well worth it
They food and service was great!
We celebrated my husbands 50th and they made it extra special!
the food was the best of all the times we have been there. the service was good, and they seated us within five minutes of our reservation.
Every meal is great. Service is perfect. We love this place
It was worth the money. However there was too much noise.
Food and service outstanding. Was just a little annoyed because we were seated right next to a large party that were noisy, and there were other tables of 4 empty in the room the entire time. And I had a reservation. Next time will ask to move if possible.
The service was very good and overall I like this establishment. However, my last visit was very disappointing. My wife ordered the filet and I ordered the surf and turf. The filet was over cooked and was simply not a quality beef for the price. The lobster was also 2nd rate for the price. If I was at TGI Friday’s it would have been fine. That said, Sofia’s daughter was great, took the entree’s off the bill and offered us anything else on the menu. Maybe the chef had a bad night. It happens.
Beautiful atmosphere, excellent wait-staff, and a varied menu of fish, pasta, Grreek foods, chicken dishes, and healthy options. Weather you sit at the "tree" bar, or dining room, or upstairs/ outside deck you'll get great service.
A side note...I've never seen a more cleaned and well decorated woman's bathroom.
We got seated upstairs where one other party was seated. So the live music, the bar scene and all of the action was downstairs. I don’t k ow why we were banished up there but it put me in a foul mood and ruined my dining experience.
Not child friendly. They seat you in the loud bar area with live music if you come with kids. My children are well Behaved kids. We asked to sit in the main dining area (which was not full at 6:00pm) and they wouldn’t seat us there. Shame on them.
This is the most beautiful restaurant in Margate, New Jersey to dine. Everywhere you look it is so pleasant . Do not miss going into the bathrooms perfect in every detail. The drinks and food were delicious too! The service was outstanding Samantha was our waitress she did a terrific job. I plan to return often.
Sophia’s was recommended by our family PCP.
We’ve been to other restaurants in margate but never here. Our food was excellent and so was the entire waitstaff.
We enjoyed the food so much that we are actually returning next Tuesday, just dying to try the grilled octopus, it looked amazing.
We had the 4 dips , assorted cheese tray and salad with pear( name escapes me) but not the taste. Needless to say quite good, don’t pass them bye.
Restaurant was overbooked. We had to wait 30 minutes for our table and ended up taking two small high top tables to combine four people by the bar. We would’ve had to wait longer for the table. Nothing was offered for inconvenience.
In addition the entrées came out while we were still eating our appetizers. I brought it to the attention of the owner was short to me and said we can just send it back and bring it back out later. Once again there was nothing offered for inconvenience or poor service timing. Drinks were very expensive. It was $17 for a Manhattan. It seems they tack on four dollars extra of the drink if it’s up rather than with ice. This is extremely disconcerting.
This is my new favorite spot!!!!
