Great food and great service
Nothing special, small place with tables too close to each other. Noise level is high and food is average
As always excellent food and service. The only thing is that we had to wait for our table even though we had a reservation, they told us there was a table ready for us in a few minutes but they have it to other customer.
Sofi is a truly authentic Italian restaurant. The branzino is perfectly prepared. The bruschetta is the best I have ever had. Great wine selections and wonderful desserts. The ambience is so welcoming.
The food was amazing. My husband and I both had seafood dishes. The octopus and calamari were both cooked to perfection, not rubbery. We will definitely come back.
We've lived in the South loop for 5 years now and SOFI and Armands Victory tap on the 1400 block of Michigan avenue are our go-to restaurants for Italian in this area so we alternate between the 2.
Loved this place! We went for an early dinner before the theater and our waiter Massimo was great. The food was fantastic!!
Awesome traditional food. Good service. Quaint will be back.
delicious homemade pasta and freindly attentive waiter
Great menu and the food is well executed and made from quality products. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. If we lived in Chicago we would definitely be regulars here.
If find Sofi a consistently great restaurant. Its VERY convenient to the Jazz Showcase ~1 block S. in (old) Dearborn Station. Not to mention Casey's Tavern across Dearborn Street...
Sofi is our go-to restaurant in the South Loop when we want a nice meal. It's one of the very few restaurants in the neighborhood that feels like a neighborhood restaurant.
Wonderful atmosphere, sea bass-(branzino), pasta homemade-amazing, vegetables, asparagus soup, eggplant, spinach, beans, and dessert all incredible!!
Apple pie w/vanilla ice cream & cannoli sooo....good! :)
Can’t wait to come back! Seemed like old-school Italian! My fav!!! :-)
Sofi has all the elements I look for in a nice restaurant: a welcoming atmosphere, wonderful food, and professional wait staff. We were greeted warmly on a freezing evening and we loved our experience there.
Charming restaurant that pampered us from the moment we blew in the door during a freak April snowstorm. I love that it's small and intimate. Our group of four shared the bruschetta and baby octopus appetizers; the bruschetta was excellent, served on grilled toast with the best-tasting tomatoes. Where do they get such fresh tomatoes in April? And the octopus was also tasty and just the right size to share if you're experimenting with octopus; tender. From the four main dishes, we voted the seafood risotto to be the best. It had huge variety of seafood on it, particularly excellent clams. Second were the the lamb chops which were just the right size portion, tender and cooked just right. Third, the spaghetti with a mushroom wine sauce which was also tasty, and fourth the mushroom gnocchi special which tasted rich and good but the gnocchi were a little dense. We topped everything off with desserts, and in spite of the generous portions we polished off all of them because they were so delicious: Sofi's sundae, cheesecake, creme brulee, and the best-ever cannoli. Seriously, the cannoli was to die for. Eat here - but maybe start with dessert!
Small Italian eatery with warm charm. Tables are close but you can converse easily. Menu did offer 1/2 portions; it is changing 4/21 so check to see what will be on offer. Full bar, nice Italian wines. Homemade pasta is tasty;pescadoro/fish pasta interesting. Zucchini flower/mozzarella and grilled octopus starters were outstanding!
I found this restaurant a wonderful surprise. I have been hunting for a moderately priced good restaurant in the South Loop for several years and happened upon Sofi accidentally when I had guests in from out of town. The menu and ambience were just right for us. Mercifully, the volume was not so loud that we couldn't carry on a comfortable conversation. A whole branzino was delicious and very reasonably priced. The food options were excellent for anyone wanting a range of Italian choices, and our waiter was very helpful and accommodating. My friends said Sofi would be their first choice on their next visit, and I will certainly tell my friends about this gem
atmosphere is cute. food was underwhelming, lacked flavor. we had 3 different servers in the hour we were there and felt very rushed
Everyone is extremely friendly and the homemade pasta is out of this world! It's our favorite pre-theatre restaurant.
We took advantage of the Pre-Theater Pre-Fix menu. It was awesome!
Excellent food and service. Will definitely return.
It was a great experience! Our main course took a bit long. I think they may have forgotten about us. They did offer us each a glass of wine to make up for the wait which really was appreciated.
I’d gladly go there again and would recommend it to many.
I have been to the restaurant many times and this time the service was not great - we got there early and maybe the wait staff was not in place or ready but it was not like the many other times I have been there
Excellent food, excellent service. Great place to go that is not the usual trade show after business dinner. It was delicious and authentic.
Always great food and service!
Food was excellent, service initially took a few minutes, understandably it was a Saturday night at dinner hour. Ambiance was very traditional (italian). Waiter most courteous as were staff.
Too many people - it slows down service - we had be rushed to eat in order to be in time in the theatre
Loved our experience at Sofi's. I said to my friends that I feel like I am in Italy when there. (Not like an American restaurant pretending to be Italian.) Our food was impeccable and I can't say enough about the comfort level our waiter gave us. We will be BACK!
This was the third time we dined at Sofi in the last three weeks. We enjoyed our meal. The restaurant seemed over booked. They seated a person up against our table. The lady was so close that her hair was on our table. We asked for our check and left without ordering a dessert. which we were anticipating.
A quaint restaurant with that personalized feeling. A great pre fixe menu which include a glass of wine. Nice touch
Enjoyable meal; great service with knowledgeable wait staff.
The food was outstanding and the staff were helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. The menu was a tad intimidating, but after I described what I had a taste for there staff was able to accommodate. I can't say enough how satisfied I was in every aspect of this meal.
Thank you Sofi!
I had high expectations for this place considering the positive reviews and yummy looking food pictures on yelp and other reviews sites. However, myself and my 5 friends and family were pretty disappointed, mostly just with the food and service.
Our waiter forgot a drink order and didn’t return for 20 mins before we had to wave someone down to get it reordered. Then the same thing happened with one persons main course, 15 mins later than everyone else’s. Not to mention the 40 minute wait for the food to come out at all.
Then the pastas were all VERY dry. like barely any sauce on it, so dry I had to douse it with olive oil to get any moisture. They were also luke warm, not hot at all. Super bummed about the food, I was really looking forward to it.
We were there with the “dinner before the play” crowd that was going to Broadway from dinner, but I don’t think that’s an excuse, as this is a restaurant and there will always be a dinner rush. Restaurants should be equipped for those rushes.
Really disappointed with this one.
Service was excellent. Menu choices looked good but the salad and both entrees were bland. This was due to cheaper, tasteless olive oil. They even have a soy blend for salad dressings. Not what I expect for an Italian restaurant!
Meal was good.made reservation but did not get table - was offer to sit at counter. Water was slow to refill and Bill was late as well. Rest of the meal is fine.
Sofi is a hidden gem! The seafood is outstanding. Very few places can prepare octopus, scallops, claims and mussels. I found Sofi to be the only resturant in the city to get it right!
Walking in the decor was welcoming. We were given a nice table “since they weren’t very busy”. Our mussel appetizer was tasty and accompanied with grilled bread which made up for the rather bland bread and oil served to all tables. My seafood stew was full of calamari small clams. Alas only 1 prawn and 1 scallop...scallops are my fav. My conpanion has the shrimp pasta which she enjoyed. I would like to return and try a different entree someday. I had high hopes and believe they can deliver if I order the right dish. The wait-staff was quite attentive. Bus boys and servers helpful.
We visited on a Monday, in the early evening, so it was quiet and perfect for conversation. The grilled vegetable appetizer was delicious; and featured eggplant, zucchini, asparagus, artichoke and red pepper, drizzled with balsamic dressing. My husband ordered the seafood stew. It was beautifully presented with an abundance of seafood framed by two crostini, soaking in a tomato based, slightly spicy and savory Italian broth. It was creamy and rich, but light, without a tinge of sweetness. The seafood was flaky whitefish, a whole shrimp, scallops, calamari, and an abundance of mussels. There were no vegetables and he would have welcomed a little celery and onion, but he said it was excellent! I ordered the branzino, and the whole fish was brought to the table before it was prepared, for my approval. It was then perfectly cooked and presented, filleted and in a very light broth, with five grilled asparagus spears on top. Everything was delicious and fresh, our server was attentive and knowledgeable. We will definitely return!
Great restaurant for a low-key get together. We met a friend here after C2E2 for dinner, and stayed until closing time, talking, and were not rushed out.
