Born in Milan to a renowned restaurant family, Chef/Owner Maurizio Michi has always had a passion for cooking.
This Northern Italian Restaurant features classics that include, Ossobuco alla Milanese, Braised Short Ribs of Beef, Veal Chop Emiliana, Fish Stew Viareggina, along with Steaks, Lamb Chops and grilled Sea Bass Branzino all of which are executed to perfection under his watchful eye.
Sofi also offers authentic Italian pastas that are prepared in house daily with the freshest ingredients in the market.
Bread, Focaccia and all of our desserts are also prepared daily.
some examples of the desserts include Panna Cotta, Chocolate Souffle, TiramiSu and Ricotta cheese cake.
The wine list is comprised mainly of wine from Italian vineyards with some California exceptions.

I must say I was a bit disappointed by the overall experience at Sofi. It had generally good ratings, but frankly found the food to be fairly mediocre. The service was adequate but not great. Overall, I would say the value for the price was not great.

The pasta and risotto dishes we ordered were excellent. We also enjoyed the scallops. I was impressed that the Parmesan seemed to be freshly grated (too many Italian restaurants in Chicago provide stale Parmesan and olive oil at the table). The cocktails and dessert were fine but not as top-notch as the mains.

Very pricing for what you get. The bread was not special. Small glass of wine for price. No salads included. Only 5 Ravioli. Total for glass of wine and 5 Ravioli $62.85. Includes tip. Will probably not eat there next time visiting Chicago.

We had a delicious and pleasant dinner. We shared burrata with prosciutto and meatball starters - both wonderful. I had the daily special— tagliolini with fresh black truffles — which was such a treat and my husband had the braised short ribs over polenta that he enjoyed a great deal. The service was excellent and we’re looking forward to coming again!

My husband’s wild boar stew was excellent but the risotto in the seafood risotto I had was extremely bland—needed aromatics and seasoning. Great desserts. Informative and cordial waiter!

We were dining at the wonderful patio for my mom’s 75th birthday. Everything was delicious especially the branzino and the best Creme brûlée! Service was impeccable. It’s the best meal that I have had in Chicago so far. Highly recommend.

Service was outstanding. The ambience was quiet and low lit. I ordered a riso mare, and the risotto was very bland. I couldn’t taste the calamari in the risotto. I believed it was overpriced.

Authentic Italian and delicious! This restaurant has become one of our favorites in the city! There are only two waiters but they hustle to make sure everyone is taken care of. We left the restaurant with our belly’s full and smiles on our faces.

Sofi has become out go-to Italian restaurant in Chicago. By now, we’ve had many of the menu items and all have been outstanding. Service is great; the wine list is compact, but competent and not stupidly marked up. We highly recommend Sofi!

All food was delicious, including the beans appetizer, the veal ravioli, the chicken Emiliana and the tiramisu! Service was very good. However, I do not like the server standing over me while I fill out his tip on his electronic device. I tip based on service provided and value of that service to me. I’d prefer paper for the check if the server cannot leave me for a minute while I fill out the tip info.

Sofi is a nice, neighborhood restaurant with classic vibes. All three of our dishes (asparagus risotto, tagliatelle bolognese, and spaghetti pescatora) were tasty and good sized servings. My one complaint is that only a few of the pastas on the menu included vegetables.
