The special was short rib pasta. Perhaps the blandest pasta dish I’ve had since I was a kid.
It was the carbo-loading meal the night before the 2019 Chicago Marathon and we were still seated early, never rushed and were able to enjoy our appetizers, and main meal (including a special off menu request - Veal Chop Milanese).
Wait staff treat you like family and you immediately feel at home.
I make sure to stop at least once every time I visit Chicago.
Excellent authentic food. Amicable service. Good location.
Our server was so incredibly rude. We felt like we were annoying him by eating in his section. He was extremely unhappy to bring us more bread, and cleared our table before one of the members of our party was even done eating. When we asked him to split our check, he rolled his eyes. I have never been treated like this in any restaurant.
Portion sizes were tiny. More like a kids size or lunch portion. This was our pre marathon dinner. We had tons of Italian restaurants to choose from, we were all greatly disappointed we chose Sofi
Amazing pasta, fast friendly service , helpful waiter .
Restaurant was recommended my female desk staff at Hotel Bake
Sofi never disappoints! Our favorite restaurant in printers row.
I’ve been to Sofi twice. Great attentive service. Excellent Italian cooking.
Very nice neighborhood restaurant. Good menu choices and excellent service. Albino, our waiter, was outstanding and walked us thru the best choices with a matching wine.
We were in Chicago for a long weekend and we’re looking for a place for date night. SoFi was an excellent choice! The food was delicious, the prices very reasonable, and the service top-notch. Would highly recommend.
Sister from out of town was visiting.
Sofi was excellent. The ambience was nice, our waiter attentive, and the ffod was outstanding.....
Sofi is a small, quiet Italian restaurant, menu is long enough to hold one's interest thru regular visits. The food is consistently good, its well located
Always a great dining experience!
Just delicious, but not for an everyday dining experience - there were 3 of us, 1 bottle of wine, 2 apps, 3 main dishes, bill was 220.00 (with tip) It was a birthday treat so not a big deal, but can't do that very often.
Very friendly staff. Started with cocktails outside and finished with a great dinner, wine, and desert inside. Highly recommend
Food was okay. Portions of pasta seemed fairly small, and the special pasta had less sauce than one would expect. For not being very busy, there seemed to be a long time between table visits. The noise was from loud talkers are two neighboring table, which I don't blame on the restaurant, but it is fairly cozy inside (which is one reason I chose to take an inside table) and a loud group affects half the restaurant.
It was a wonderful place to see friends and share a meal.
The waiters seemed rushed, serving across people instead of from the side. The food was adequate at best, not worth the $20 plus per plate. If you are looking for high priced middle of the road Italian you will be fine, but if you are expecting an amazing meal then I would look elsewhere.
2nd visit here. We live out of town. First, the bread. Squishy wonder bread type served with olive oil. It's Chicago for sakes, where you can easily get good bread. I make muchmuch better at home. Cacio e pepe loaded with butter. Not very authentic. Fried zucchini flowers, greasy, old tasting oil, wrapped in prosciutto, Husband had the short ribs, good, plated next to a pool of polenta. Open table reviewers were mostly loving this place. Many many better Italian places in Chicago.
good good good good good good good good good good good
Over the years the quality of the food has declined and the price the opposite. We are old fans, but don’t plan to come again.
Absolutely fantastic Italian food! Loved it!
Sofi is our go to restaurant when we want something special. Yes, it is in our building, but the food, the service and the setting are like being in Northern Italy. We split the Mussels Livornese in zesty tomato broth - capers - garlic crouton as an appetizer. I had the bucatini with PUTTANESCA ; my dinner companions had Gnocchi Bava and Tagliolini Salmone-smoked salmon- asparagus spears. A modestly priced bottle of Malbec was great for the three of us.
Absolutely fantastic meal and possibly the best canolli I have ever tasted. And that’s coming from a guy who grew up in NYC!
Good variety of Italian dishes. Lentil soup, lobster ravioli and short rib with polenta were very good. It was quiet on a Saturday night after 8. Seating indoors and out. Service is very good. Ambiance is nice. Great option for theatre goers. They also have a theater preset menu for $35 with good options.
Authentic Italiano! We are from St. Louis and the LORD led us to choose an excellent Italian restaurant in Chicago!
We had a wonderful meal. Both the beef and the fish entrees were excellent , with delicate and balanced flavors: we could tell that the ingredients were of the highest quality and they were prepared to perfection.
We were born in Italy and this is one of the few restaurants that doesn’t serve some form of the usual boring American Italian fare : you will not find fettuccine Alfredo or eggplant rollatini at Sofi's , but you will find a very interesting menu of the best Italian cuisine .
The wine list is also excellent .
The service was highly professional and super attentive.
We will be back tomorrow . If we lived in Chicago this would be our "go to restaurant"
Nice intimate date with fantastic food.
The food was just ok. We had a party of 7 and none of us really enjoy any of the food, even though we were starving. The atmosphere was nice. The staff was nice.
We ate outdoors on beautiful Printers Row. We had a charming Italian waiter. The food was wonderful, from the tuna tartare appetizer to the panna cotta for dessert.
Definitely will visit again. The Blackstone provided an excellent recommendation
Good food, upscale. Nice bar.
Food was not good at all, bland and generic. Small portions for the price. Would not recommend.
Great food. Good service. Fair prices.
Fantastic as always.
The food and service was great!
It was a beautiful Chicago July evening so we sat outside on Dearborn Street. We each had the Tagliatelle Bolognese which came in ample portions. Their Bolognese sauce is not quite as tomatoey as my wife's ,but good. We shared a bottle of Italian red wine and when the waiter learned that my birthday was upcoming, he brought out a special tiramisu for dessert. It was a wonderful evening.
Delicious! An interesting and different menu. Attentive service. We will absolutely return for more!
Food was sub par. Zucchini flower was just a fried block. Orechitti past was bland without sauce.
Loved this restaurant. Find was authentic and absolutely delicious!
