Soffritto Italian Grill - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Despite having a confirmed reservation the restaurant was closed and apparently is permanently closed. We ended up having to choose another restaurant at the last minute and ended up at Vincentes, about two miles away, which was outstanding. I am definitely going back to Vincentes.
The restaurant's doors were locked when my husband and I went there for our 6:30PM reservation. No sign on the door, lights off and parking lot empty which is unusual for this restaurant. This explains why when we tried calling, there was no answer. Apparently they have either gone out of business or a in the process of selling the business. Bad!
We had reservations for July 24 and when we got to restaurant the doors were locked!!!! We tried calling the numbers for numerous days and no answer / we havd never had any problems and that's why we are concerned why the doors were locked and no answer on phone!!!
We went to Sofritto a number of times before, but this time it was on the spur of the moment. Our party included my husband, our daughter, son-in-law and me. The restaurant was fairly busy but our waiter was helpful and took great care of us. The food was copious but good. My husband had baked ziti with sausage in a light red sauce, which was excellent. I had the chicken parmigiana, which was excellent too. My daughter and her husband both enjoyed the gnocchi. They are vegetarians. We also had green salads included with the meal with vinegar and oil. For wine we decided to try a carafe of red wine rather than order a bottle of wine as we have done before and the wine was great. A great all round experience.
I was in town due to family business. I have given my sister several gift card to this place but never had the opportunity to try it myself. The food, wine & server were all outstanding. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who was in the Newark, DE area .Many choices for everyone from carnivores to vegetarians.
BEST calamari ever - and we've had a lot from New England to Florida. Our server, James, was superb. I took my husband there for his birthday after getting a last-minute recommendation from my doctor that day. She's Italian and my husband loves Italian food. It was a wonderful dining experience. We enjoyed every bite of our well presented generous portioned meals. The next time our New Jersey friends visit, we will be taking them to Soffritto's. Can't wait to try something else on the menu. And, of course, we'll be having the calamari!
We were a party of six on a Tuesday evening. The restaurant was very empty but we were seated at a very small, cramped table in the middle of the restaurant when there were larger tables open in other, more comfortable places available.
Their Caesar salad for an extra $5 is definitely not worth it. It seemed like a bag salad and dressing with disappointing croutons.
The main meals were good - everyone seemed to enjoy them. The fettuccine is an extra $4 because it is house made fresh. It arrived cold with a very sweet tomato sauce on it - disappointing.
The wine list leaves quite a bit to be desired.
I had high hopes because we've had catering by this restaurant and it's always been delicious. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was very lackluster with uncomfortable chairs. This, coupled with the expensive add on items which tasted mediocre, really disappointed.
The food at Soffritto's is average. No one in our party of 5 said it was anything other. However, the prices were high - which made all of us expect more. The staff did well for a busy evening. In fact, the hostess went out of her way to get us a large table when we had an unexpected extra person join us. So the people did a great job, but the food was average, and the prices high.
Hi we waited quite awhile for our food and when we received it 3 of the plates didn't have the ingredients as described on the menu. In addition when my party arrived they were told that despite making reservations nearly two weeks ago they didn't have our reservation listed.
The staff was very friendly but the food and service was so, so. The wait staff allows too much time to past before checking up on their customers, which causes significant lag in service. The food for it's price range was bland and disappointing. The setting is nice though and the overall feel of the place is nice.
My friends and I had a very enjoyable evening. Our meals were delicious and the service was excellent. We all enjoyed the fact that we could hear each other with no background noise to drown us out. The price was a little more than I usually spend, but well worth it.
Overpriced ... No specific kids menu.. Ordered buttered noodles which was offered as a kids option. $11 for a small bowl... And that didn't include a drink or dessert!
$5 upgrade for a Caesar if you wanted to upgrade from the included garden side salad... Definitely not worth the $5 upgrade.
Would be nice if they included the happy hour in the dining room.. $7 vs $5 for a small glass of house wine...
The food is beautifully prepared, presented and deliciously seasoned. The service is exceptional, with knowledgable, attentive servers. The ambiance is perfect. We really enjoy that the tables have enough space around them that one does not feel claustrophobic as in other restaurants. We no sooner visit Soffritto's that we find ourselves planning the next visit.
Beautifully managed restaurant! We feel fortunate that it is close to home.
My girlfriend and I stop here whenever we drive between NY and DC. They simply do everything right. The restaurant is strangely located, but it has no indication of quality. This place rivals and surpasses many city restaurants. As snobby NY foodies, we appreciate their dedication to detail in both their food and their service. If you attend the UD, live near Newark, or simply want to get a bite off 95 that's not fast food, check out Soffrito (and you save $4 in tolls!)
My wife's dish ( Dover sole) was wonderful. My veal chop was cooked beautifully and presented very well, but the texture was tough. The risotto and spinach that came with it was really great. We had a very good time and will be back. The ambience was lovely--and we could hear ourselves talk!! Also, our server was delightful, attentive yet in the background.
The food and personal interaction was exceptional. However, in addition to making the reservation online through open table, I was repeated called by the restaurant to confirm my reservation. In addition, I was told that I needed to supply a credit card number. When I asked why, I was told that I would be charged $20 per person for anyone that didn't show up. I found this to be unacceptable. I have dined at quite a few very good restaurants in major areas and have NEVER been confronted with a reservation policy like this. At this point, I am debating whether I will ever return to this restaurant because of this. It's a shame because everything else about the restaurant was very good.
