Social Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
I arranged for my mom and sister to go to Social for Thanksgiving dinner. After securing the reservation I called the restaurant and was told that they would enjoy a complete Thanksgiving dinner at a fixed price...and that there would be a vegetarian option for my sister. They were so looking forward to going out for the holiday, but sadly it was a complete disaster.
I was told there would be valet parking, making it simple for my sister to get my handicapped mom easily into the restaurant, they waited for about 5 minutes, and finally my sister went in to get someone to tell her where to park. Dinner was terrible: they said it was as if it had been cooked the night before and reheated in the micro. they were not offered salad nor rolls...dinner came out lukewarm, and almost inedible. the "vegetarian option" was the same as the regular offering, with no turkey or gravy. The bill came before they were asked if they would like dessert or coffee...when the pie came, it seemed the bottom crust had not been baked. In short, it was a very disappointing day..and none of us will ever return there.
Came in for brunch with 2 girlfriends who were visiting from out of town. The new brunch menu is excellent—we had the tostada, a biscuit sandwich, prosciutto and cheddar omelette and shared a side of chocolate chip pancakes. Everything was delicious. Social is welcoming, warm, and the hospitality is second to none. Definitely worth the trip in from Boston (15 min uber!) and will certainly be back again soon.
I've been to Social several times. The food is consistently good...the menu has creative dishes that are well prepared. The drink menu reads a lot better than prepared, though. I ordered a special bourbon cocktail that was on the drink menu and it had too much juice so tasted like just bourbon and orange juice.
The service in general wasn't great. I don't think it was the people working there, but rather they seemed short-staffed. Our drinks took a long time to be served, and a friend ordered an appetizer as her entree but the waiter didn't tell the kitchen, so it was delivered well before the rest of our parties' dinners. Nothing catastrophic, but little things that add up.
All in all a good place. Firm up the service and train your bartenders and I would give it 4 stars since the food is very good.
Very good family restaurant. I had the organic salmon which was above average. It's comfortable and a step above the Not Your Average Joe's style restaurant. Wish they had told us the lava cake would take 20 mins, but besides that we were impressed.
Nice ambience, decorated tastefully in warm dark colors. High ceiling so a comfortable sense of space around us. The menu though limited has wise choices -- food that would appeal to a large section of the population -- hamburgers etc. Our server was very attentive and friendly. It's a pretty good place for a casual dinner with friends.
Shockingly, this place isn't too busy. It's attached to a hotel so I'm sure they get their rush hours but not on 2 repeat Saturday nights. The short ribs were amazing!! Probably one of my most favorite meals anywhere. Drinks are great. They have 3 desserts and we had all 3 to share because we couldn't decide, they were all great. The toffee pudding was the best.
I wish I could review this place. I made a reservation, I was sat and given water by the host, I waited at least half an hour and no server came to my table. The restaurant was not very busy and we were not acknowledged until we got up and left. Again, the host offered to validate our parking. So if you want a fantastic experience with a host at the front desk, this is the place for you. The menu we looked over for a half hour was interesting but limited. It was easy to read and in English. The water at the table was cold. The televisions at the bar were on as was the heat and electricity. The bathrooms were well stocked and had working plumbing. The floors were swept and the tables were clean. Again, the host was spectacular.
Excellent Creative Food - Went here with my family on Saturday night. No problem reserving a table on Open Table. Fairly big restaurant. We ordered 4 starters, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and mash potatoes. Each was excellent, I had a vegetarian crowd, so these dishes were a big hit. For dinner, I had the chili, it was very tasty, but on the small side for $14, my kids had the gnocchi and Social's version of a Hawaiian burger. Both were excellent. My sister-in-law ordered the mac and cheese with pork bellies, it looked awesome. I think my low carb diet may have influenced my judgement on this dish. My wife had a nicely done sushi dish. Our waiter was excellent. In the back area of a restaurant there was a party going on with 50+ people, so it would be a good spot to have an event. When we were leaving they were setting up to play live music, another plus for the restaurant. We only had two drinks from the bar, but our check came to $151 + tip. I would definitely recommend going here for a drink at the bar or a night out with friends.
I booked this restaurant as a last minute valentines day reservation that had a reasonable time available in our area. I was familiar with the general location but hadn't heard of it. As we approached, we saw that it was the restaurant in the Crowne Plaza hotel.
We walked in to a cozy place with a nice looking bar area and live jazz music in the corner of the dining area!
The food was very good and the service was even better. Our entrees were delivered without having received our appetizer. a small mistake, but it happens. Three different people cam to apologize. They bought us a free round of drinks, then they gave us $25 of toward our next visit.
We definitely intend to return!
Jazz Trio for Valentine's Day. Shared several apps and the duck gnocchis. Food was good. Kitchen seemed a little slow and then it alllllll arrived at once.
Waaaaaayyyyy too much ice in otherwise good cocktails. Wait staff was pleasant and attentive enough.
Table next to us too loud--not the establishment'sfault...
Perhaps a little pricey but it was a nice evening. I would go back.
Surprising good! Yummy Napa Merlot. My Ruben was ok but the corned beef was a bit fatty and the saurkraut was in a glob rather than spread around. Service was good, wait staff friendly and polite. For a hotel location, it was moderately priced with a varied menu. A good place to meet friends for lunch with validated adjacent garage parking. I will go back.
The building itself is a bit unassuming, but once you enter the restaurant you are pleasantly surprised at the ambience and decor. We had a brunch gathering on News Year Day - just the right food level, price, and crowd size you would want on that morning. I had the greek omelet with spinach and feta which was very good. Would certainly go back.
Service was quite bad (when we walked in for our reservation there wasn't even one employee visible). The cinnamon roll was good but our entrees both got sent back and then we didn't even eat them the second time. Potatoes had strange seasoning that was inedible, poached eggs first over cooked and then undercooked...music was way too loud. It was a bizarre experience all around.
Sadly, the service at Social was non-existent. We made 6:30 pm reservations on a Saturday evening, but left the restaurant at 7:05 pm without ever being served. We were not even given a glass of water. The bar area was busy, but there were only 3-4 tables of diners. The hostess sat us quickly at 6:30 pm and gave us menus. Then we waited and waited and waited. After 35 minutes, we left. No one ever came to our table. I tried to find a waiter or waitress, but no one was around. The worst service I ever had at a restaurant. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I complained to the management via email the next day, and they offered us a $75 gift certificate. So that was a good gesture. Not sure if/when I'll go back.
We were celebrating our granddaughter's 7th BD. The chef made a special BD cake for her because she didn't eat chocolate and the other desserts were too "fancy". So he made a fruitlike tart for her and that was above and beyond anything we expected. The service waitstaff was fabulous. We have been going now for a few years and they never fail to impress.
Thank you, Social...
Where can you get service, food and ambiance like Boston but with free validated garage parking right off of the PIKE? The Social Restaurant & Bar is where. We had an eclectic group joining and leaving at different times and were accommodated very well - on a Saturday night! Friends enjoyed soups, desserts and appetizers and meals at different times and our servers transitioned seamlessly. The empanada and roasted cauliflower were delicious appetizers. Burgers were large and perfectly cooked to order; side salad was bountiful and french fries expertly seasoned. Drinks ranged from Shirley temples to craft cider to red wine - all chosen from well-rounded offerings. Only way to improve is when lounge music returns in the fall. Great date night place.
We were celebrating our daughters 28th birthday and gathered with family. 3 of the 7 of us had the short rib - which was fall-off-the-bone delicious and the layered potatoes were equally delicious.
I had the lobster roll sliders and chowder. The chowder was good but too many potatoes and could have used more clams. Was disappointed in the Lobster sliders. Too much bread and too little meat. Come on - it's New England - put in more meat - especially for the price.
Overall - a good experience and would go back as they can accommodate large parties. Would go with the Short Rib - which seemed the best value.
