Soby's Ratings and Reviews
It was a magical evening from the wonderful She Crab Soup, to the grilled Fillet Mignon and finishing with the decadent fresh banana cream pie. The pie had fresh sliced bananas and a fluffy mousse filling in a flaky crust. Can’t wait for another excuse to return.
This is always a teat for us..... and it's a neighborhood restaurant. The service is always great, and John our waiter is professional, helpful with a great personality. The food is seasonal and well prepared and not excessive either is quantity or presentation .......
I do not normally write reviews but Soby’s deserves my time. This was our first visit to Soby’s and definitely will not be our last. Our server Mackenzie was fantastic, drinks were great, appetizers were spot on, and our main course perfection. I eat my steak well done and it actually came out perfect the 1st Time! No sending back for once. And then dessert, the White Chocolate Banana Cream Pie was to die for!! Thank you all for making this birthday dinner so perfect.
Ordered Rose wine but did not offer to put it in chiller or on ice. Then ordered fish special based on waiter recommendation. It was a small portion. I ordered a filet and it came out cold and my side was cold. We even told server and he just said sorry and offer nothing. We dropped $150 for a subpar meal.
The service from the check in desk, to the bar, then to our table was excellent. The food itself was fair. The appetizer arrived to our table hot and fresh and delicious. Our entrees were okay. I ordered the crab cakes, and they were warm, not piping hot, neither were the potatoes or the string beans, which were by no means cooked, or seasoned well. I also ordered a side order of grilled shrimp, which had no seasoning to it. I was really disappointed because when I had attended a Food Tour thru G'ville, you featured some grilled shrimp which were so well seasoned. Since I was on a date, I tried to focus on my date, and not be too critical. For the price that we paid and the tip that we left, except for the ambiance, I believe we would have been just as satisfied if we'd went to the Carolina Ale restaurant.
I didn't see anything on the menu which I would want to go back for, but as I said, the ambiance was nice. If someone else wanted to treat me to dinner, I would gladly come back, Soby's just isn't on my short list anymore.
2 of 6 dishes were very good...an octopus app and a beef and grits app....the mains were not good...a shrimp and grits marred by severely overlooked shrimp (inedible) and an over salted fried chicken. We liked the idea of oysters prepared Nashville hot chicken style, but the seasoning was off...no significant heat (Prince’s and Bolton’s are the places in Nashville that have the seasoning perfected).
Combined with a listless uninterested server, not a place to return to. Table not ready at reservation time.
Soby's makes great food. I've been here for Sunday brunch several years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, and would have rated 5 stars at the time. I'm going with 4 now because I have since converted to vegetarianism and I was underwhelmed by the options available to me. I had the vegetable plate and enjoyed it; my wife had a salad which she said was ok. There were also a few veggie options in the appetizer section, and the fried green tomatoes we ordered were amazing in my opinion.
been to soby,s many times over last 20 years. food always good as is wine selection and service. I had the fillet mignon which I found to be a bit chewy but other than that the food was excellent. would recommend soby's to anyone who appreciates fine dining.
My wife and I waited for an hour for our food. We informed our server we were going to the Peace Center after dinner so we ordered as soon as we were seated. 1 hour later we were still waiting. No appetizers, just entrees. Also, the guests at the table next to us were seated after us, and they were served and had completed there dinner while we were still waiting. When we asked our server for the check she went downstairs and immediately returned with our dinners. Makes you wonder how long the plates sat under a heat lamp. Regardless, we left so we would not miss our concert. My wife and I will not be returning to this restaurant, and we certainly wouldn't recommend it to our family and friends.
