Soby's Ratings and Reviews
We went to Soby's for my mother's birthday with our 10-month-old baby . Everything was wonderful - food, drinks, service and ambience. The atmosphere was also vibrant enough for my child's occasional excitement to not be embarrassing. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, calamari, filet and crab cakes. Everything was delicious. We will be back to try other dishes. Highly recommend.
The food was great, as usual. However, we were seated near the server station and the noise level was off the charts. I could not hear anything over the roar. Also, the staff rearranged the tables for a large party no less than five times during our visit. Very distracting! Usually we are quite pleased with our visits to Soby’s, but this time was not up to the standard we’ve come to expect.
Very nice but loud. Food was excellent but kind of hard to carry on a conversation. Service was top notch. Highly recommend, but I would suggest requesting a more reserved area when making the reservation. I made my reservation via Open Table and seating location wasn’t and option.
We had a fabulous experience at Sobys last Friday night. We sat in a comfortable booth with extra pillows. Our server (7 months pregnant....I can’t remember her name) was excellent. She was knowledgeable about the menu, poured the wine and the Guinness just right. We all had delicious meals, but I think mine was the best of all. I had She Crab soup as my appetizer and braised beef short ribs with herb polenta and collards. Save room for the white chocolate Banana Cream Pie! Whoa...it is their signature dessert and worth every calorie! Sobys has consistent quality food with a casual yet sophisticated atmosphere.
We were visiting the Greenville area and saw Soby's was highly rated - and rightly so! There was a problem with our reservation, but they were completely gracious and seated us right. Our waiter Brian was extremely helpful with the menu, and also very nice. The place is great and would recommend it and go back again.
There was a convention in town and Soby's was very crowded and loud. Fortunately, we were able to reserve the famous table 301 with a great view of the kitchen and it was a tad quieter. Wish I remembered our server's name, because he was very good. The shrimp and grits are worthy of "Best of" award received. The prices weren't outrageous and we would go again.
I took my husband here for his birthday dinner. He had the filet mignon, and I had crab cakes. Both were large portions and were prepared to perfection. For dessert, he had the become pie which was extraordinarily good, and I had delicious crème brûlée. We will definitely return, but only for another special occasion since it’s a bit pricey for our budget.
Food was excellent, wine was good but pre dinner Gin and Tonic was ugh ... server was a little stretched (very busy) but pleasant. Sat outside as weather was gorgeous. Extremely busy weekend in Greenville and they looked slammed and as such the service etc was as expected. Food came out in a timely manner. Brussel Sprouts, calamari were good but pork tenderloins wrapped in bacon with mash potatoes were sublime.
We were 2 couples plus our service dog. They sat us in an ample booth inside, at our request, and were very receptive to having our dog along for the meal. The waiter came by promptly, offered beverages of all types, left menus and made suggestions about their specialty items. We brought our own wine and they informed us of the $20 corkage fee.
We ordered salads which were nicely prepared and quite good, but not as delicious as the fried green tomatoes that we also ordered. I would return just for these perfectly crafted tomatoes.
My wife, the vegetarian of the group, had several options, but went with the side dish combination vegetarian platter. She said the polenta was very good, as were the other vegetables. Her only exception were the lentils, which she said tasted dull and commercial.
My cousins were quite enamored with their the crab cakes and short ribs. They would return to eat these again. I too tried their mains and agree they were yummy. My dish, the fried chicken, was good, but did not approach excellent. I would not order that dish again.
Overall, a place I would revisit and try their many other food choices. Nice ambiance, I would like dine al fresco, on my next visit.
Sunday brunch at Soby's was great as always... except for the burnt French toast. It was hard as a rock and black on bottom. I can't believe no one in the kitchen attempted to stop the dish from going out on the buffet line. Before we left, the French toast had been replaced with a fresh platter and they redeemed themselves. All was wonderful as expected. We will return for Sunday brunch again in the near future.
The food was excellent we had an outside table weather was pleasant waiter was very informative very nice. Has service was excellent I was visiting greendale can’t wait to go back I would definitely go to this restaurant. One of the best meals I’ve ever had
We looked forward to our evening with friends at Soby's based upon recommendations from several couples. As promised, our meal was quite good; however, our service was abysmal. Our server was articulate, friendly, and knowledgeable as she greeted us (we dined on the patio). After we ordered, we did not see her again until we waved her down near the end of our meal because we had not been given a basket of biscuits and wanted to request them (we had tried earlier but she never looked our way). No one checked on us at any time throughout the 2 hours we spent at Soby's. We had to wave down the young man who was refilling water when we needed refills. I was never asked if I would like another glass of wine or if our table needed anything. Our server reappeared to ask if we wanted dessert and then brought our check. Sadly, the service was so poor that it ruined the lovely outdoor ambience and the meal. With so many other restaurants in Greeneville to choose from, we won't be going back to Soby's.
Soby's never disappoints! Whenever we visit Greenville, we always make sure to eat at this amazing restaurant. The bacon-wrapped tendering, braised short rib and shrimp and grits are our favorites! Make sure to leave room for the pecan pie and creme brûlée!
Overall a good experience. I like the ambience and decor of the Restaurant. We were greeted and seated immediately, service was prompt. Our waiter was overfamiliar and too talkative. He forgot items and had to be reminded. However, he was attentive, and our food was served appropriately. The fried green tomato appetizer was very good. I had a cocktail which was quite good, and my husband had a couple of beers, and he was happy with the beer menu (Thomas Creek Trifecta IPA, and Appalachian Amber), a bigger selection would be great, with some draft choices. I love the veggie plate option, and would like to see more salad (entree) options. Overall a good dining experience.
We are visiting from out of town and went to Soby's based on reviews we had read. From the minute we walked in everything was fantastic. Food, service, and ambience were all top notch. Ray did a great job taking care of us and the entire staff was very accommodating. We will definitely be back.
Our group was in Greenville for business and wanted to try a nice restaurant with Southern food. We couldn't have been more pleased with our server Brion's recommendations. The wine list was fantastic and he knew the history of the building, you could tell he loves his job. I would definitely go back on my next trip to Greenville.
