The Commander's Family of Restaurants returns to the French Quarter, where the family business began in the 1950's, with our Spirited Restaurant - SoBou. We're South of Bourbon (ok - it's really southeast), in the land of civilized drinking and worlds away from the oversized beers and bad frozen drinks. Our modern Creole saloon is a Louisiana-centric and street food inspired restaurant with a beverage focus.

I’m very confused by the great reviews here. 1.we would see our waitress every twenty minutes. 2. Food was mediocre (where are the carbs?) 3. I had to refill everyone’s champagne glasses because (once again) we never saw our waitress. Overall, yes, in pictures this place seems to have an awesome ambiance but overall the service is mediocre and the food is subpar. I’m sure there are better restaurants to visit. Seriously do not waste your money here.

We had been looking forward to SoBou and were quite disappointed. The service was slow at first and then our entrees arrived within a few minutes of our appetizers. We weren't half-finished. Food portions were erratic - entrees of vastly different sizes. We ordered drinks/wine, but then would have liked refills on water, which was hard to come by. The noise was louder than we were comfortable with. We won't go back. Too many great options in New Orleans!

Although my wife and I have eaten at SoBou on several occasions in the past, both with others and by ourselves, after our most recent experience we will not be returning. The evening started off good with a great bartender (Kevin S). However, when we went to be seated everything went down hill. We had a party of 5 and were seated in the bar area with the explanation that parties over 4 were not seated in the restaurant. That was odd because there was a party over 4 already seated in the restaurant and in the past when we had been to the restaurant parties over 4 had been seated in the restaurant. The noise level at our table was high due to its location and was not the quiet, low noise level in the restaurant itself. Our waiter (Alex C) seemed rushed and was not very informative or interactive. Too bad, because on previous visits the waiter/waitresses had always been very social and interactive. When my wine was brought, he just set the carafe on the table (twice) and did not pour it into the glass. We started with some small plates to share and he kept returning on short intervals asking for our dinner order. The menu had been changed from the on line version, which is not unusual, but it was very limited in its selection of non-seafood items. No steaks. Although the sweet potatoes under the meat on my wife's meal was very good, the meat itself was dry and tough. Overall a very poor dining experience and we will not be returning.

When we arrived there was no one up front to welcome us. We then got seated and 4 other tables got seated right after us with the same server. Our appetizer came after close to 30 mi utes and when we finished our apps, our cocktails came.

Dinner came after the other four tables got served something.

Everything tasted good. But we just weren’t feeling it. We then found out that the computer system had crashed and out everyone in the weeds. They tried to make it up and offered all the tables feee shots of a specialty drink similar to a lemon cello .

Server was very nice and then very apologetic at end. Anyway, wasn’t as excited with the visit as expected to be.

We have had dinner here before; it was very good. We thought we try their breakfast here. Breakfast sandwich and the potato was sooooo good! The service was good too! Thank you, SoBou.

This is the second time we’ve been here and had a totally different experience this time around. Food wasn’t great, service wasn’t great and the ambiance is definitely not great. We came back for the food but were disappointed.

Top notch service. Food was quite good, but the service was the difference maker.
