Can’t believe I paid high dollar for a very small portion of food. Osso Bucco was 1/4 the amount it should be and surf and turf was a medallion of meat and one shrimp. Let the place starving and got to go to Cafe Du Mondrian to buy beignets to satisfy my hunger.
Eating at SoBou was a last minute decision. We were promptly seated. The service was attentive. The food was excellent. The Honey Nut Cheerio Milk Punch was fantastic.
I hope that we just caught the place on an off night, but we left disappointed. First thing, we were seated promptly, even though we arrived 15 minutes early, but that wasn't a problem because the place wasn't even a quarter full. We were taken to our table in the main room which was VERY dark. We had to pull out cell phones to see the menus. OK, we got past that, and our waitress worked very hard and attended to us very well, so I give her credit for trying, but she made a key mistake...my wife ordered surf and turf, but was not asked how the turf should be cooked. The result was a well done steak (admittedly, her scallops were nearly perfect) that was just plain not good. I'll eat almost anything, and even I stopped at one bite when I sampled it. My fish was OK, not great. Everything was very salty. Some of that comes with the territory, but this was overboard. (We had to rush back to the hotel to get her out of her shoes and for me to get my wedding band off, because the swelling was really something.) Dessert (chocolate coma) was good, but I've had a lot better.
I love Commander's, and just about anything else affiliated with any Brennan, but I left So Bou surprised (in a bad way), i.e., disappointed. I hope this was just an isolated experience.
Great for a light and relaxing lunch. Food and service was spectacular!
A group of friends at a conference chose SoBou because of the menu, ratings, and availability. It was delicious! Service started out slow, but so did we. Everyone was delighted with our choices - fish specials and the sweet potato beignets. Good cocktail and wine options. We were too full for dessert.
Creative small plates. Excellently prepared entrees. Very disappointing desserts.
We went to Sabou with some out of town friends and although the food was outstanding, the restaurant was a bit disappointing. First of all, we were seated in the center of the back dining room, away from the street. Good. But the room was so dark that everyone at the table (in fact everyone in the room) had to turn on cell phones to read the menu. Even seeing the beautifully presented food was difficult in the almost non existent light. Can you imagine how silly it looks to see everyone in a restaurant using his cell phone to get some light on the table?
Also, this is a restaurant that boasts it cocktail prowess. O.K., so I asked if they had Plymouth Gin. The waitress said they did, then came back and said they didn't. No big deal. But they have a drink on their cocktail menu with Lilette as one of the ingredients. My wife ordered a simple Lilette on the rocks. The waitress came back and said they didn't have Lilette. Really?
Another thing was that there were no bus boys (or girls). Our drink glasses sat on the table for the entire dinner and we asked the harried waitress if there were bus people and she said "no". She had to take the orders, serve the food, and clean up. That's absurd in a restaurant of this caliber.
This is a Commander's Palace restaurant, and, as such, I expected a much better overall experience. So, as I said: It was a bit disappointing...
We booked this because Commanders Palace(their parent restaurant) was booked. Figured it would be similar. It was a beautiful place for sure. 1st strike was they advertise their cocktails But was told they could not do a chocolate martini 🙄. So i ordered a different drink which was good. Unfortunately this was the one and only drink i had because i was never asked if i wanted another. Very disappointed. Our waitress was very nice but very un attentive. She had 3 or 4 tables around us and checked on them several times skipping us. So disheartening because Commanders Palace’ service is top notch. My water was empty for quite some time also. The food was okay. Very small portions!! I understand this is their trendy restaurant and they have that down! Jus5 need to work in the service if they have association with Commanders Palace!
Cocktails were exceptional, doors was great, service was fair. I'd highly recommend pregaming in the bar, where the experience was made!!!
The time for service was terrible
The wait for food and drinks terrible
The food was ok
Everything else was bad
Would not reccomned
Food was very good but service was awful. Menu was limited and they were out of half the entrees. Ordered 3 different times before I found something they weren't out of. That was only the beginning of the problem, my dinner came out an hour after my wife's dinner. One would expect the manager to come over and apologize but instead just walked by. Would not recommend.
I gave this place a 1 star for it's service due to management, our waitress was awesome(tina, I think) but she was the only waitress I saw in the entire restaurant. It took us 4hrs to finish our meal and it wasn't because we wanted to drag it out. The food was amazing, the drinks were awesome but the wine list was horrible. They only had cheap wine and extremely expensive(over 300 dollars) very few between 100 and 300. I pray that this place gets new management because the chef did an amazing job and the staff were very helpful, just extremely short handed.
This is more of a bar that serves good food. The menu is limited and the service was not consistent.
Don’t sit in the white chairs near the window. There is a draft and the chair make a lot of noise when you move.
The fish of the day - red fish was very good.
We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at SoBou and would definitely go back. Very friendly and cheerful staff and excellent tasting food!
Being from New Orleans, the food was not the best. They weren’t busy but yet the service was quite delayed. May be because of the large party that was in attendance. The atmosphere was great however I most likely won’t eat there again.
Went with the family. Daughter had the chicken tenders and hand cut fries....excellent. My entree (braised short rib) was very good. My wife said her surf&turf was ok. I would definitely go back.
This place was great!! The food was so tasty and high quality. Loved the sweet potato beignet. Just wish they would give a bigger portion because they can’t really be shared . The waitress was so friendly and the drinks were yummy. Loved this place . Will be going back.
Service was great
The food i ordered was too spicy for me and without asking she
Took off the bill
We went for lunch. Everything was great. Portions were just the right size, and food was very tasty.
We initially didn't realize that SoBou was in the W hotel and were a little apprehensive, but were very pleasantly surprised. Everything we had was delicious from the Boudin Balls & Pork Cracklin' (highly addictive) to the Chocolate Coma Bar served w/ a candle and chef's hat to my husband when they found out we were celebrating his birthday. I also had one of the best cocktails in my life - The Waiting Room. We will be waiting until we can return once again on a future trip.
We started with the sweet potato beignets and a cup of gumbo which were both absolutely delightful. The gumbo was served with mashed potatoes rather than rice which was different and delicious. I ordered the surf and turf entree and my sister had the braised short ribs. Both entrees were on point; we just wished the portions were a little bigger. The steak melted in my mouth but could literally fit in the palm of my hand with room to spare. The scallops were perfectly cooked but the dish came with just two. Lastly, we ordered the pecan pie which seemed a misnomer. It was served in a tiny jar with a dollop of peanut butter, cracklings, and chocolate sauce. My sister despises peanut butter so she took one bite and was done. The chocolate covered cracklings were actually very tasty but the rest of the “pie” was not that great and left much to be desired. Overall though, we really enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere.
Food was delicious. Alex, our server, was amazing. attentive, courteous and friendly.
I took a chance and ordered the Trout with crab and piñon stuffing. I am not a fish person, but this was the most amazing fish! So flavorful! The avocado and tuna ceviche ice cream cones were a unique and tasty appetizer. Great menu!
Went to celebrate a birthday and specifically spoke with someone ahead of time who said they would decorate the table along with clarifying that the burlesque show would cover the whole restaurant. The burlesque dance never danced anywhere near us. This was a special occasion and I was overall disappointed.
Great experience. Always a fave to come back to time and time again. Yellowfin tuna cones are a must. Friendly service.
I’m very confused by the great reviews here. 1.we would see our waitress every twenty minutes. 2. Food was mediocre (where are the carbs?) 3. I had to refill everyone’s champagne glasses because (once again) we never saw our waitress. Overall, yes, in pictures this place seems to have an awesome ambiance but overall the service is mediocre and the food is subpar. I’m sure there are better restaurants to visit. Seriously do not waste your money here.
Small portions - decent food. Server was not overly attentive. Drinks were all fantastic though - drink here!
This was my second visit to SoBou. This time I brought a business party of six. We had a great time at the bar before dinner. The bartender carved custom whisky rocks for us and the clientele was an interesting mix of folks from all over the globe. Dinner did not disappoint and the bottom line is that at the end of the night, we were well fed and entertained.
Was good but slightly loud if you are looking for a light conversation.
We had been looking forward to SoBou and were quite disappointed. The service was slow at first and then our entrees arrived within a few minutes of our appetizers. We weren't half-finished. Food portions were erratic - entrees of vastly different sizes. We ordered drinks/wine, but then would have liked refills on water, which was hard to come by. The noise was louder than we were comfortable with. We won't go back. Too many great options in New Orleans!
Although my wife and I have eaten at SoBou on several occasions in the past, both with others and by ourselves, after our most recent experience we will not be returning. The evening started off good with a great bartender (Kevin S). However, when we went to be seated everything went down hill. We had a party of 5 and were seated in the bar area with the explanation that parties over 4 were not seated in the restaurant. That was odd because there was a party over 4 already seated in the restaurant and in the past when we had been to the restaurant parties over 4 had been seated in the restaurant. The noise level at our table was high due to its location and was not the quiet, low noise level in the restaurant itself. Our waiter (Alex C) seemed rushed and was not very informative or interactive. Too bad, because on previous visits the waiter/waitresses had always been very social and interactive. When my wine was brought, he just set the carafe on the table (twice) and did not pour it into the glass. We started with some small plates to share and he kept returning on short intervals asking for our dinner order. The menu had been changed from the on line version, which is not unusual, but it was very limited in its selection of non-seafood items. No steaks. Although the sweet potatoes under the meat on my wife's meal was very good, the meat itself was dry and tough. Overall a very poor dining experience and we will not be returning.
Fantastic and unique... Their cabaret brunch should not be missed.
When we arrived there was no one up front to welcome us. We then got seated and 4 other tables got seated right after us with the same server. Our appetizer came after close to 30 mi utes and when we finished our apps, our cocktails came.
Dinner came after the other four tables got served something.
Everything tasted good. But we just weren’t feeling it. We then found out that the computer system had crashed and out everyone in the weeds. They tried to make it up and offered all the tables feee shots of a specialty drink similar to a lemon cello .
Server was very nice and then very apologetic at end. Anyway, wasn’t as excited with the visit as expected to be.
We have had dinner here before; it was very good. We thought we try their breakfast here. Breakfast sandwich and the potato was sooooo good! The service was good too! Thank you, SoBou.
This is the second time we’ve been here and had a totally different experience this time around. Food wasn’t great, service wasn’t great and the ambiance is definitely not great. We came back for the food but were disappointed.
Top notch service. Food was quite good, but the service was the difference maker.
Great food and nice people.
The Soup du Jour (corn chowder) and Gumbo du Jour were excellent and the braised short ribs got great reviews from the table. The Osso Buco was okay, but not something we would order again. This was Valentine's Day and the day after Mardi Gras, and the pressure of the week seemed to be getting to our waiter. He was not very friendly, helpful, or attentive. We ordered our "allow 25 minutes to prepare" bread pudding when ordering our entrees, thinking that might be helpful to the waiter and kitchen, but we still sat waiting for the dessert for about 30 minutes after finishing our entrees. We did not see the waiter again until successfully flagging him down to plead for our bill.
Menu is misrepresented but ambiance is nice
