Snack Taverna Ratings and Reviews
This was our second time eating at Snack Taverna. The food did not disappoint us. We ordered small plates and enjoyed all our dishes. My only complaint- and not the restaurants fault- was the large coned truck immediately outside the restaurant. It blocked the beautiful view of this part of the Village. We will be back soon
Enjoyed an early Saturday night dinner and found the restaurant to be charming, with delicious food and helpful waitstaff. Since we didn't know any Greek wines, we especially appreciated the recommendation for a wine to accompany dinner. We opted to share a selection of the small bites, rather than individual meals, and would definitely recommend that approach if you have a group. Will definitely return.
I have gone to Snack Taverna many times for dinner and have always found the food and service great. I came for Sunday brunch for the first time last week and while the restaurant was nearly empty, it took over 45 minutes to receive our food. The service was bad and we had to ask about where our food was on multiple occasions. Once we received our omelets, the eggs were overcooked and yet the cheese was not melted at all inside. I found the food below average and was very disappointed by the overall experience. Will likely not dine here again...
Went there because of promotion by Cherry Lane Theater, one block away. The handicap access was poor but the staff helped. Ordered a Meze selection, which was OK but a little too peppery for some. Small dish veal meatballs were delicious. The whole Bronzini was fileted before cooking, rather than after, which made it dry. the ambience was very nice. The service was amateurish and inattentive. It was as if the neighbors cam in to help.
Snug, comfy place with attentive, friendly service. It's Greek comfort food upgraded slightly. The Mezes are delicious , portions appropriately small for mezes. Loved the zucchini fitters and eggplant spread. The shrimp with ouzo scented tomatoes was excellent. We split a branzino which was delicate and perfectly cooked. Nice Greek wine selection. All in all, a lovely neighborhood place that we'll return to.
Went for dinner with the family on a Friday evening. The food was excellent, as was the service, and the space is cozy and charming. The Saganaki is as well prepared as any you'll find in the City. The Branzino was much better than the one we had at a well-regarded restaurant in Astoria a few weeks ago (which was very good). The watermelon and feta salad special was refreshing and perfectly balanced. Veal meatballs and shrimp Santorini were also delicious - well seasoned and prepared with obvious care and patience. Bottom line - Snack Taverna is a true gem.
Its Greek with a twist, if you are expecting authentic Greek cuisine…its not the place, its Greek with a new look, presentation and taste.
Good food, you will enjoy, some of the dishes are traditional. The service was very very good and the staff are friendly and they really look after you. It’s a small place so I will strongly suggest reservations in advance.
Maybe I'm spoiled when it comes to Greek food because I'm in Astoria, but Snack Taverna just wasn't really worth it for me or my roommate. The staff was super nice, service was good and quick, food tasted fine, but the price was just not good for the portion sizes on the salad and small plates. Yes, they are small plates so meant to be small, but we weren't expecting as big a portion as in Astoria and this was a few still dollars too much for what we got despite the neighborhood. It's a cute place though, and close to the train as well as the Barrow Street Theater.
Service was terrible. Haven't experienced that level of service in a long time. Waiters just had no sense of responsibility for their customers. Water took forever to come and not refilled until halfway through our meal, I ordered a beer that never came, we were never checked on (I had to, with great difficulty get someone's attention if we needed something), our waiter didn't write down our order and after repeating it with us (wrong and being corrected, twice) went off to put it in and then had to come back to check our order again (and was wrong). There's a few other things but I'll leave it at, while the food was pretty good (the meatballs and shrimp in particular) I wouldn't come back because it wasn't worth the annoyances.
Oh and while I get they probably think it's cool to serve wine in normal water glasses it's kind of unpleasant to drink out of- they're super thick.
This is a very lovely neighborhood restaurant. The staff is friendly and the ambiance is intimate. The food is Greek inspired. The Spanikopita was very good, the hummus had a kick but the dolmades were too oily and Greek salad could have been tastier. Overall a good find but it did get noisy as it filled up.
