This is one of our favorite restaurants in Manhattan, cosy and really good food.
Love this place.
Hadn't been in years when was in Village. Hugely better food and ambience than remembered. Waiter great and a hoot. Certainly worth going from UES
Nice people and very good food. Strongly recommend. Small and quiet.
It was maybe the best Greek food we had in NYC. My husband is Greek, so he has high standards. The place is very cozy in the village. The service is fast (it was also not crowded at all). But it was a bit more expensive than expected... $350 for 4 people, sharing all dishes. We had a great time though!
Wonderful food and excellent service.
This place is facsimile of Greek cuisine.
Over price and limited menu of the wonderful dishes of the Greek cuisine spectrum. The Youvetsi was horrible the lamp shank was over done and the orzo was dry. The chef should checkout what is the true definition of the Greek word “Youvetsi”!
The baklava was a disgrace!
If anyone is interested in real Greek food go elsewhere!!!!
I chose this restaurant because it was close the theater we were going to, but I wasn’t sure what to expect based on the name. The atmosphere was great, the staff was such that I felt like they were friends who’d invited us over for dinner. The food was delicious! I will definitely be back. We all loved it!
Waiter left us unattended for far too long and forgot a beverage item. Everything else was great.
Totally enjoyed our experience. The brunch menu was somewhat limited but adequate. We we were seated quickly, service was more than attentive and the cost for our tasty and fresh meals were reasonable. I highly recommend Snack Taverna.
Always one of our favorite Greek restaurants. Not very fancy or expensive, but excellent food and good service. Try the red pepper & pomegranate spread - it is outstanding.
This is a very pleasant little Greek place in the West Village. They have a number of small plates that are very tasty as well as entrees and several nice Greek wines to choose from. The staff are very nice. The prices are reasonable. I would certainly go back and would encourage others to try it.
Great neighborhood staple. Love this place. Food is always amazing- get the taramosalata! Oh and save room for the rice pudding
Loved it, but ... I asked for and received a cup of hot tap water with a slice of lemon - the equivalent of a glass of tap ice water, only hot. And then, surprise! I found out when I got my bill that they charged me $2.00 for it! Tap water, hot - $2.00 !!!!! Without saying anything up front that would have given me the opportunity to say, "no thank you" to that lousy value proposition! I drink hot water because it's better for digestion and have never had a restaurant charge me for it. Shame on them! We loved everything until the bill arrived and we saw that and then it colored the experience in a negative way. I strongly suggest that Snack Taverna reconsider this policy and stop being greedy and ridiculous as this conveys! I even asked the waiter about this when we got our bill and saw it - making very pointed eye contact - and he said there was nothing he could do. Really? No empowerment to remove a stupid charge when contested by a patron who had just indicated she and her fellow guest were delighted at the meal?
great value for brunch. well prepared and well spiced. Definitely would like to try dinner.
Cool spot in the neighborhood
Lamb triangles are amazing! I’d go back just for that.
A group of us met before a show at the Cherry Lane Theater, and although the service felt a little slow (it's a very relaxed, charming vibe) to this NYC A-type, they asked about our time-frame and did in fact have us out in perfect time to make the show. A nice range of food to accomodate a tableful of issues, all delicious. A couple more beer options would make it almost perfect.
CREATIVE MENU WITH MANY OLD STANDBYS. FOOD WAS EXCELLENT! WAITER WAS FUN .
I love Snack Taverna. Food is delicious and they make you feel special without being over the top. Love it equally on a quiet Tuesday or a bustling Friday.
The food was very good. Especially the lamb triangles and the veggies were very fresh. The service was slow though. But the food was worth the wait.
We used to go to this restaurant a few times a year, but now we won't be back. While the food is good, the service has become downright annoying. That kind of smug fake niceness that comes with some hipster waiters. Even without that, the restaurant broke my cardinal rule of dining out. NEVER BRING ENTREES OUT WHILE YOUR TABLE IS STILL ENJOYING STARTERS. It's expected at cheaper places, but this is a nice restaurant, and when our waiter came out with the entrees, we looked up and he kind of stood there waiting for us to move our plates so he could put the next course down. But we didn't. In case you weren't reading, we don't like that, and it was honestly kind of a stare down and I had to ask him to please take them back and wait 5 minutes. Needless to say that went over great.
Secondly, I ordered a wine that was supposedly akin to a Sauvignon Blanc. Since all of the wines are Greek, no one who goes there is familiar with any of them, so you have to depend on their decisions on what to give you. Yes, I know it's a greek restaurant, just another hurdle. I didn't like it, but it improved with the food. So he brings the wine in a non-wineglass which is really hard to tell how much wine there is in them, and I finish it in no time and order another. When I get to my third, I politely ask if they can make their pour a little bigger. Not a big request I would think as we're spending a fair amount of money as I've ordered three wines, a starter and an entree. And the place is EMPTY as it was Columbus Day weekend. He snaps at me, "IT'S 5 OUNCES!" Oh, my, forgive me! 5 ounces! I didn't know there were such strict measures here. So the air there has taken over what was once a great little spot with really good food. Sorry, but you've lost customers.
My husband and I came here for a Saturday lunch and were pleasantly surprised that the restaurant was not packed. The next surprise was that the food was actually excellent Greek food with some dishes I was unfamiliar with. I was very happy with the lamb triangles (spiced lamb/beef with graviera cheese); the portion was more than I could eat (3 large triangles), not to mention a tasty side grain dish and some greens. My husband was equally impressed by the lamb burger he ate that came with cypriot potatoes. The waiter was very attentive and kind . . . no complaints. I will certainly be back.
I thought the food was good, the service indifferent. The staff were generally polite but inattentive.
With so many choices in the neighborhood we patronized the restaurant because of a promotion from a local theater, but at bill time they refused to honor it. I was dumbstruck. It's not as if we weren't liberal in our ordering. My wife and I dropped $165.
The main reason to come here is the handsome bones of the place on a lovely block in the West Village. But honestly, with so many cute neighborhood joints with decent food to choose from, I'll be spending my money elsewhere.
We were seeing a show at the Cherry Lane Theatre, and they sent us a list of local restaurants. Some were very pricey, but Snack seemed a bit more reasonable, so we booked. My friend arrived before I did, and secured a table at the window, giving us a pleasant view of the street as the sun gradually went down. I started with a tasty specialty cocktail (my friend just had a soda) and got a small plate of the veal meatballs, which were very tasty. My friend ordered chicken, and I got the eggplant stuffed with lamb and beef. There was lots of food, all of it good, but we still managed dessert. This turned out to be a great choice, and I made sure to get a business card on my way out.
We had wonderful service before a show at the Comedy Cellar. Delightful server, delicious dips, and a delicious classic Greek salad. Highly recommended.
Snack is a treasure. We have been going for over 10 yrs- every time we are in town!
Excellent Greek food. Was there at an early hour, so the place was empty, therefore, no noise.
Food and service were both fantastic! Bartender was welcoming as was the waiter who explained the menu options well. Greek wine isn’t my favorite but we were able to taste it and get a good recommendation from the waiter. Dips were super delicious. Quaint place. Tiny bathroooms.
Great Village food !
This is becoming our favorite very quickly! First time came here just for drinks at the cozy small bar - delicious creative drinks, but didn't eat. Second time came here for dinner - even better! The food is light, flavorful, perfectly portioned, and comforting. We had the grape leaves, feta and watermelon salad, roasted rosemary chicken with chickpeas and gold raisins, and butter beans in tomato sauce with feta. Couldn't stop eating, everything was SO good. The service is extremely attentive and quick to suggest options and refill water glasses!
We had a wonderful time at Snack. the service was friendly, helpful and fast. The food was excellent
It was nearly empty on Sunday around noon--amazing! Skip the crowded brunch places with the long lines ad go to Snack Taverna instead!
I've always liked the food at Snack Taverna, but this time the service was just terrible.
Terrific little place with delicious food and friendly service. We ordered several small plates to share, beginning with a huge Greek salad. The octopus was especially good. Will definitely return.
Went before a show in SoHo and it was great. Great for sharing small plates, delicious food, and attentive service. Small, but quiet and a lovely location.
The stuffed pepper is one of the best vegetarian dishes in the city!
Food not great at all. Not authentic Greek
If you like Greek food, this is a great go-to place in the West Village. Tzatziki, hummus, zucchini fritters, stuffed peppers, spinach triangles, shrimp Santorini -- all sooo good. And the service was very friendly and helpful too!
