Already have recommended & we'll definitely go back!
Great food, selection. Staff at craving station friendly engaging. Wait staff distant, gone for long periods- pricey compared to some comparable in area
Food was unique but over done in terms of too many sauces etc. Restaurant has solid ceiling and floors with terrible noise as a result.
Great spot. First time there for my daughter's 30th birthday brunch. Love the food, staff, and atmosphere.
I will definitely be back. Unique dishes, friendly waitstaff, and comfy spacious booths
excellent food excellent service
we will be back
From the minute we walked in, to the end of our meal the experience was great. Waitress was very observant of our needs and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was fantastic and they kept the buffet fully stocked.
Fun brunch with excellent service!
Different brunch offerings - we like that it represents foods and likes of the Midwest. We went on the day of a Harley event which included a DJ. The music genre and volume had an adverse affect on the atmosphere. We liked that we were seated right away and our waitress was pleasant.
Welll Smyth tries hard. But misses the mark. Third time here in three years. It’s ok. Tonight the grilled Caesar had hardly any green leaf and was all white heart and impossible to eat. The BLT salad was better but super salty. The flat iron steak was suggested by the waitress to be served medium rare. But it was too undercooked I think. Tasty for sure. It sat in an onion purée that was meh. My wife has the filet and it was good. Not great. For $40 it was lacking. The potatoes on both dishes were fantastic. The server poured the wrong wine. Ordered Smith & Hook - she delivered Joel Gott. For dessert two of the four desserts were sold out on a Saturday night. Our reservations were at 7. How could they be sold out already?! We ended up with a giant piece of chocolate cake. It was great. The cappuccino never arrived. The manager came to the table to tell us the cappuccino machine just broke. That’s too bad. Again the restaurant appears to try hard but these are not the mistakes to make on a Saturday night. Sunday maybe. For some reason I want to come back again despite all the amazing choices downtown.
I loved the atmosphere and the food at the Smyth! I ordered the chicken with sweet potato mash and kale, and it was cooked perfectly! The menu options are unique, but everyone could find something they liked. The only downside was the service was a bit slow and the restaurant was not even full. And towards the end of the dinner an event in the hotel lobby featured a rock band, so we didn't talk much while enjoying our dessert which was okay, but I felt bad for the people still having dinner.
Our experience was great for the first hour - until a band began in the lobby that was deafening and stopped our conversation totally. Thankfully, our evening was nearly done when they began. We had a table for 6.
The brunch was fabulous and worth every penny!! Like the option to also sample small plates off of a kitchen menu in addition to the buffet . Prime Rib was perfect, ribs were falling off the bone delicious , eggs benedict small plate on crab cake with arugula and a spicy hollandaise, OMG good.
Went here for anniversary dinner. Brandy treated us right. We had a great meal and they made it special with champagne and dessert to close it all out. Great spot.
The Sunday Brunch WITH AUCD mimosa is perfect. Several items come from the kitchen, all amazing. Food options for everyone. The OJ was fresh. Great for big groups. Valet is free with $20 purchase.
The price for brunch was $35. The only seafood was the smoked salmon, which had the traditional accompaniments. I had to ask for crackers since they didn't have any on the buffet. There didn't have bagels, cream cheese, etc., either. The prime rib was dry and was medium-medium-well. There wasn't any jus, which would have helped. They had crepes filled with sweet cheese, similar to blintzes--and they didn't have sour cream with them. These ommissions are odd for a place like this. The dessert "table" had a commercial kringle, yogurt that was not on ice, and commercial cream puffs and tarts. VERY disappointing. The brunch at Cafe Grace is significantly better, has free parking, and several seafood items in addition to items from the menu...for $20.
Marcus was a great server. Food was excellent. We will definitely be back
Stayed at Iron Horse Hotel one night for Bob Segar concert. Ate dinner at Smythe before the concert I love the mason jars lights everywhere and the rustic decor. Wait staff was extremely nice and helpful and attentive but not overly so. Had the chorizo and cheese curds appetizer it was delicious. Entrees were salmon and my husband had dairy cow. Both were delicious. Desert was chocolate mousse cake and was delicious as well. No complaints which we cld have lingered longer
We enjoyed our experience iverall at Smyth. Food quality and presentation was spot on, however our group felt the pricing was quite high based on portion size. We all felt that if a salad was included with the entrée it would help greatly affected are feeling about pricing in a positive way.
My college gals and I loved the "Boozy Brunch" at the Smyth Restaurant located in the Iron Horse! The food was amazing and service impeccable! Open Table is an efficient, reliable, and super easy way to make reservations! Our table was ready when our group arrived--super convenient! We will be back soon!! =-)
This is my favorite place for Sunday brunch. The best buffet around.
It has been a while since we've dined at Smyth, so I was totally surprised realizing they did so much so well. Granted, it was a quiet night, only three or four tables were occupied, but no detail was overlooked. We met up with dear friends, and conversation was completely focused on catching up. Our server, Brandi, was !outstanding!, very attentive without being intrusive, and service pacing was perfect. My roasted squash soup was excellent, and my flat iron steak was tender, a perfect med-rare, plated with well-balanced flavor accents of pickled red onions and fingerling potatoes. The bar even had a bottle of my wife's favorite after-dinner drink, Cardamaro, often hard to find. This meal impressed me very much, to the point where Smyth will now be front of mind in the future.
The menu was excellent and the service and food were wonderful. The restaurant is casual, but it certainly could be a great place for a date or special occasion.
We enjoyed the Sunday buffet.
It was delicious and had many different options to choose from.
The coffee was outstanding.
The mimosas were tasty.
Smyth's is a casual, yet upscale place within the upscale Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee. The restaurant's decor is reminiscent of industrial rustic with lots of antique equipment with an emphasis on blacksmithing. The food was good & tasty, I had a decent Bloody Mary, as well as excellent coffee. My server was a nice young gal who was very attentive. Though I thought the price for the brunch was steep, it was worth it.
Excellent meal as always on New Year's Day. Love the brunch there on Sundays too. Buffet was outstanding. Service was warm, friendly and impeccable. Ask for Marcus!!
Didn't care for sitting in the 'Library' room. Enjoy the main dining area better. Music was lovely, guitarist was quite talented.
Great way to start the New Year!
To start with the a disclaimer, some of the disappointment may be my fault. I made a reservation at the last moment and saw no mention of a 5 course meal. But when we arrived there was no mention of the courses nor the cost. The food quality was excellent as was the service. But the quantity of the food and the value was laughable for Milwaukee. $100 per person did not include drinks nor tip, so $300 later (and that is only two drinks each my friends) for a couple and we had to go out somewhere afterward to eat as we were both still hungry. Portions so small they wouldn’t qualify as a small plate. I thought prices needed to be posted, but I saw nothing on the table, website or on open table. Needless to say it is my last time at the Smyth. It must be there for more sophisticated palates and thicker wallets than mine. Truly the portion sizes were laughable, and I have eaten at many fine restaurants across this country.
Went for a chamagne brunch for our wedding anniversary. Completley over priced. For $35 a person with unlimited champagne they should be walking around with a bottle in their hands to refill. I had 2 glasses and my husband had 1. There was not much to chose from food wise either.
Great food . Enjoyable experience
Went for Christmas Day brunch. Great variety of food offered and 5 flavors of mimosas. I will surely be back!
We met for Sunday brunch/gift exchange. Everything from the service to the food was wonderful! Inga was very attentive. We look forward to a return visit!
Fantastic service and great food. The chicken is to die for!!
The food was good, however the brunch buffet had few choices. The items that were included in the brunch that you ordered from the kitchen were very good. Next time I'd skip the buffet and order breakfast off of the menu.
Service was great, staff was friendly and attentive. The mussels were an excellent appetizer. We were disappointed in our entrees. For $30 dishes they lacked flavor and the wow factor you’d expect at that price.
This was our first time at Smyth and the food was absolutely excellent. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was cool/unique. Highly recommended for a great date night.
Ambience, food preparation and taste were excellent. Despite telling our server that we had a specific time that we had to leave in order to make our show, the main course took a long time to arrive and was barely lukewarm. I’m sure it sat in the kitchen waiting to be delivered. We had to skip dessert because we ran out of time. Would have a 5 star experience with a different server
The service was outstanding. The building is beautiful. The food was delicious.
Food was average. Environment was spot on. Service was ok
