Smyth is inspired by the days gone by term for blacksmithing. We honor the blacksmith and his craft by creating cuisine that reflects the handcrafted, soulful trade of transforming raw materials into works of art. We draw seasonally from the bounty that Wisconsin and the Midwest have to offer. Smyth is an intelligent balance between the playful and the traditional. Smyth Ratings and Reviews
The atmosphere and service were absolutely amazing. The food was good, didn't have anything bad, however nothing really amazing either. We could've gone to other restaurants we have been to in the past and had better food, in my opinion, for half the cost. I get the attraction of it, the hotel is very cool and a place to be. The whole place is beautiful so it has great ambiance. Our server was beyond great, very attentive and even gave us a dessert on the house to celebrate our special occasion.
Food was exceptional and well worth a trip to this restaurant. Everything was very well prepared and presented. Unique preparation of food. I recommend the Bread starter with bone marrow infused butter and seafood tray app followed by risotto, scallops and beef fillets. Our wait staff was very efficient and friendly. Our only negative was room was very loud, music from bar very loud in dining area and with large table for 4 it was very difficult to have conversation. A nice treat for dinner.
Best brunch in Milwaukee! We went for a friends birthday and had such a great time. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. The price is incredibly reasonable for how much food you can get and how high quality the food is, along with having so many mimosas. Will definitely be back!
We attended the Sunday Brunch. There were 4 items to be ordered from the menu and served to you - we tried 3 of the 4 and loved all three. The grits and braised short ribs were the best I have ever had. The selection at the buffet tables was excellent with a wide variety of different foods. I have gone twice, already have a third brunch set up and will continue to recommend to my friends. A great find!
We were there for a special occasion celebrating a college graduation for a friend. The Sunday brunch was very good. The prime rib is worth the trip in from Burlington alone. (wait for the medium rare cut in the middle!) You'll find some delectable desserts and some not so common brunch items, your mimosa's are included with your brunch (3). The service is very good as well, making for a very relaxing visit. We definitely will be back!
Excellent all the way around - bartender Tim was exceptional and knows how to not only make a great cocktail but also how to interact with bar patrons just the right amount - he also explained ALL of the specials that evening much better than our waitress did. Our dinners were fantastic, we enjoyed the filet ( done exactly as ordered) and the lamb shank - delicious! Can’t wait to visit again!
This was a great lunch! The menu is a bit limited for lunch but our server suggested a few items which helped a lot. We had the beef sandwich and our food was fabulous. Oh and by the way, the fries are amazing. There is a hint of bbq on them making them out of this world and I'm not usually a fry fan!
Food was amazing! Not great service from server. Waited too long when ordering brunch items from kitchen with no updates or explanation. Would’ve preferred sitting in the dining area rather than the bar when eating a $50 per person brunch. I love the Iron Horse, but our NYE/day experience did not live up to what we’re used to at IH.
New Year’s Day brunch was hit-or-miss. Great service, great mimosas, decent charcuterie, but it’s hard to keep buffet food warm, so the lobster bisque and French toast were a pass. Good salads, but find a new seafood purveyor or skip the oysters/clams. Shrimp was good, but the coffee was weak.
We were at the thanksgiving brunch and it was so good we went to the Christmas Day brunch. Food is high quality with enough choices for every palate. We have also been to the Sunday brunch it was great as well.
Love the ambiance and you can dress in what ever you are comfortable in. Definitely will continue to dine there.
We had a girls brunch (just 3 of us) and Christmas gift exchange at Smyth on a late Sunday morning. First off, I love the decor in this place. The service was outstanding as well. There is a made-to-order omelette bar along with chef-carved prime rib and ham. While the quantity of food wasn't expansive compared to some places I've been to, it was still quite extensive and the food was really good. They also have some additional items you can order from the kitchen with your brunch, such as red velvet pancakes. And on top of it, the brunch includes 3 mimosas! I filled my plate 3x but was too full to try everything. When we were done, we decided to do our gift-opening in the lobby so as not to take up a table and the waiter even helped us carry our gifts. Everything about this place is top notch! Will definitely come back!
Our food tasted great! The service was not great and the portions were pretty tiny. 3 scallops for an entree is a pretty sad portion, even for a lady, vs a larger guy.
The bill was very expensive compared to our dinner for same event last year at a different restaurant where we had great good, exceptional
servers, and plenty of food.
We were not that impressed. everything tasted good, but wish we could have had a little more.
Drinks were good but expensive
Entrees were very good in terms of taste and presentation but portions were small and prices were high.
Scallops were $26 and 2 diners ordered them. They each only got 3 scallops and they were the size of a quarter. Um, that $8.67 per scallop!!!! With no sides, everything is a la carte.
Boullaibaise was excellent but portion was small.
Good food but we all went home hungry and much lighter in the wallet
Smyth was unexpectedly great, we will absolutely go back. The food is very well done - the kitchen really knows what it's doing. My husband loved his bouillabaisse, and you must try the burrata salad which is very unusual and truly delicious. The only miss for the evening was the underdone risotto. Which was surprising since the other thing to know about this restaurant is that at least at dinnertime it's a restaurant for sitting and relaxing and chatting between courses (sometimes just a touch too long) not a restaurant where the dishes come out quickly.
I was there for Sunday Brunch, made a reservation, didn't have to, the place was maybe 5% occupied. After we sat down, it took at least 10 minutes for the waitress to show up to explain the menu and get our drink order. $33 brunch includes juice, coffee and mimosas, hot tea that I ordered was extra. Very small selection of dishes at the buffet, closer to good continental breakfast at some hotels then a brunch buffet. The food was just decent, nothing I would order again and way overpriced. I went to brunch buffets for $50-$75 and I can truly say that the quality and selection was worth it and justifiable, definitely not the case here...no wonder it was almost empty.
Although the food was presented in a wonderful fashion, the amount of food was minimal for the price. We had dined here several years ago and thought it was wonderful then. This time, it was a disappointment. My wife ordered a beet salad and got a paltry portion. She also ordered scallops and got 3 for about $26. My fillet was good, but unordinary.
The food I ordered off the scaled-back brunch menu was warm at best which was surprising because it was not busy and there were only four menu options. Specifically, the biscuits and gravy were cold and the biscuit seemed like it was not fresh or had been microwaved and was hard (not hot). Having been to brunch there at least twice in the past, the approach has been scaled back and is now more buffet-oriented. The carving station seemed the same as in the past and the chef there was great. For instance, he noticed we were celebrating someone's birthday which was acknowledged by our server. The service was not attentive and actually rude. Foe example, we were given one menu and told to share amongst 5 of us and scoffed at when we asked for more menus. For the price, we won't be back. My husband chose it for his birthday because of our past experiences and this did not live up to those.
