Ambience, food preparation and taste were excellent. Despite telling our server that we had a specific time that we had to leave in order to make our show, the main course took a long time to arrive and was barely lukewarm. I’m sure it sat in the kitchen waiting to be delivered. We had to skip dessert because we ran out of time. Would have a 5 star experience with a different server
The service was outstanding. The building is beautiful. The food was delicious.
Food was average. Environment was spot on. Service was ok
Was there for brunch. Waitress ignored us. Didn’t remove plates or refill water. Awful service.
Went to Smyth for a Sunday brunch. Best deal in town! Excellent food and drinks (bottomless mimosas). Highly recommend.
Great service great food. The ambience is very cool. Just a little small. It would be difficult to get in if busy.
Limited and rather pricey menu but cool location and space. It was not crowded but our food took 50 minutes to arrive at the table. Drink options were good.
Took 45 minutes to get cold food when only three tables were there. Will not done again. Barely any food on the plate and very pricey for no flavor
My review is based solely on my reservation. We made a 10:15 reservation on open table for brunch. They overbooked and tried seating us in the bar at a pub table that would not fit more than one plate. We asked if we could just wait until a table opened up. We were told no as they proceeded to seat people with 10:45 reservations. We were on time and were disregarded because they cared more about seating their larger parties with later reservations. Terrible business practice.
We gave Smyth a chance after we were unable to be make a reservation at a different restaurant. We are so glad we discovered it. The industrial, wooden, dark color tones, and mason jar candles were very inviting and relaxing. It was peaceful, comfortable, and enjoyable to sit, eat, talk, laugh, and relax. The food was superb and was made and served with an elite skill-level. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking to enjoy a delicious meal with a significant other.
This was the second time that my family had brunch at Smyth and even with a few menu changes the food was great as was the service. My son and daughter in law had their wedding at the Iron Horse and we had the same experience for that occasion as well. I would recommend dining here for any occasion!
Service was great. Date’s salad was good. Wasn’t a huge fan of the deconstructed Caesar and the mushroom risotto. Have generally had very good food there.
Went to Smyth with my spouse to celebrate my birthday. The venue is classy but not stuffy. You can show up dressed up, but most appeared to be in nice casual. The menu is limited, but we liked most of what was there. We shared an appetizer of their butternut squash chowder. I then ordered the duck confit and my spouse ordered the dairy cow filet. We loved everything they served us. It was delicious. The service was attentive. The dessert menu was pretty traditional, so we passed on that. But if you are a lover of traditional desserts (crème brulee, chocolate cake, ice cream), I have not doubt they would do these things deliciously. It was a great meal and a great night out. We would come again.
The high ceilings and interesting men at work décor was a hit with our party of four. Brandi made sure our food was to our liking and all our needs attended to. The fried oyster mushroom sharable plate was satisfying with a nice spicy flavor. Each of our main dishes were special. Chef Alex knows how to please.
Pricey, obviously geared towards perhaps business people. Liked the decor and ambience
This was a beautiful restaurant! Excellent food and excellent Service.
Atmosphere! Beautiful, trendy vista. Incredibly friendly staff. We ate there for both a quick dinner and breakfast the next day. Food was good, vibe was better. I’ve already recommended it to others.
While the meal was good, I dont think the brunch was $33 good. It is great that the mimosas are included in the price however that isnt a perk for my wife who is pregnant.
It took way too long to bring our main orders out and then it was staggered in being brought to table. On each plate half the food was cold from what I would assume waiting for the entree to be added. Since we were all too tired of waiting and hungry we didn’t bother sending back. Overall a big disappointment and would not recommend in terms of the price for what you get.
We went for brunch and fell in love with it!! Great food and a fun lobby!
We could make a reservation here for Sunday brunch which helped a lot as we were under a time frame. Arrived and were seated right away. The buffet had a salad section, cream of squash soup, carving station with prime rib and ham, made to order omelets, a variety of hot dishes, and desserts. The cream puffs were loaded with fresh whipped cream. Also could order 4 skillet selections that they brought out from the kitchen. Buffet included drinks and free mimosas. Would eat here again.
I made this reservation for our 10th anniversary. Things I liked - valet parking, the receptionist was nice, and craft cocktails were excellent. The food was meh. We ordered two apps: the Deep Fried Oyster Mushrooms were cold, then served mixed with cold white cream which was presumably celery root puree--the dish tasted like something you might run across in a breakroom 2 hours after a conference room lunch meeting cleared. Maybe it's better hot. The baked curds were a couple unimpressive blobs of melted cheese in tomato sauce with dry chorizo chunks and sprinkled with toasted hazelnuts. Served in a cast iron dish, I also expected this to be right-from-the-commercial-oven-hot. It was a bit warmer than room temp. The best part was the toasted sourdough bread IMHO. My husband ordered the special, which was half a chicken- deboned. It wasn't anything special. I ordered the scallops. I was served 3 scallops, only one of which was large enough to consider "typical" based on previous restaurant experiences. The other two were quite small. They were cooked perfectly, but for the $28 price, the number and size were more in line with appetizer portions. They kindly served us our dessert choice of a very good chocolate cake at no charge for our anniversary. Ultimately, despite the cool vibe and cocktails, the food was lacking in the passion and culinary skill that separates a great restaurant from that of a home cook trying a magazine recipe for the first time. There are far too many great restaurants in the Milwaukee area to go a second time.
Not impressed... only one seafood option. Ordered pork tenderloin...lots of meat and not much with it except a few micro apples.
Great variety and service
Food was amazing along with the crafted drinks. Loved the atmosphere. Wished the menus was bigger with more appetizer options but not a deal breaker. Still loved it. Excellent service.
Excellent brunch! Ask for Marcus for great service!
The service was terrible! Food took forever and it was boring!
Service was exceptional. Any issues were resolved. One of the meals was under cooked. It took too long for the replacement plate to come out. Still great food, and service staff.
Our server Brandi was outstanding!! We had no idea Sunday brunch was a buffet but were surprised and pleased with the options. Three mimosas included in brunch!? Terrific. Great price.
We chose Smyth for our Monday night anniversary dinner because it fit both my husbands desire for a good steak and my desire for flavorful food presented creatively. We had met friends there for dinner previously and had enjoyed the food, service and ambiance so I did expect it to be a similar experience and was not disappointed. We ordered starters, dinner and dessert in addition to a couple drinks. I've read a few reviews saying it's expensive, but I feel the value received is equivalent to the money spent there. We loved our dinner and the service was excellent. I'd say the margarita I ordered was the best I've ever had and I may have had a few in my life:) Our server asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and proceeded to bring gratis champagne upon learning it was our anniversary, which was a nice and unexpected touch.
We love the atmosphere at the Iron Horse. The service is always good and the Sunday brunch is outstanging. It’s very much worth the cost!
The Great Northern buffet brunch was excellent, but the service from the minute we walked through the door (and waited 5 minutes before a person appeared at the registration desk) left quite a bit to be desired. VERY slow beverage service, and even slower food service (fortunately most of the meal was at the buffet!) It took us 3 tries to get cream for the coffee (first time a pot arrived on our table, but it was coffee, second time skim milk, then finally after one of our party excused himself to go in search of cream, did we actually get what we'd asked for 20 minutes before.
Food was excellent; just make sure you allow plenty of time for the experience ....
Took my wife for a surprise birthday dinner. She said it was quite possibly her most favorite restaurant! The food was phenomenal!
My girlfriend and I are here and we’re very pleased with the service. The menu is small, but delicious. We had the cheese platter, loved every cheese!
We went for Father's Day brunch and had an enjoyable experience. Food was very good and our server was attentive and on top of things. Everything on the buffet was great and there items on the menu from the kitchen were excellent.
They do their prime well, the small plates were unique and perfectly sized and quite tasty. While we had a reservation, we were still required to wait as our table had not emptied-and then to “seat us on time” we were shuffled to the back bar area-not as nice as the up or middle ambiance. Overall worth trying
RE: BRUNCH - Seated in lobby area which was disappointing. The brunch menu never changes. Same stuff. However, Smyth does put some effort to switch up the “off the menu” brunch selections. I just wish they’d get creative with their standard brunch selections - run of the mill
I'd have to say our experience was great all the way up to the point when we received our bill.
Their gratuity policy is complete garbage. Prior to dinner we had cocktails at the bar, when we received our bill they had added a 20% gratuity (bar tab), there were six of us and we had 1 drink each. I've NEVER been to a bar where they charge an automatic gratuity to a bar tab.
Now to dinner, the same policy applied, which for dinner is acceptable to place an automatic gratuity for 6 or more customers. That was not the issue for the dinner bill, the issue is that the automatic gratuity applied to two bottles of wine. Each bottle was $88.00, total for two bottles $176.00 in which they charge a 20% gratuity! So essentially it cost me $35.00 for them to open the bottles. I have NEVER been charged an automatic gratuity of 20% on wine with dinner. That is outrageous and that is why I will Never dine with Smyth again.
The dinner bill turned an enjoyable night into a bitter one.
