Smyth is inspired by the days gone by term for blacksmithing. We honor the blacksmith and his craft by creating cuisine that reflects the handcrafted, soulful trade of transforming raw materials into works of art. We draw seasonally from the bounty that Wisconsin and the Midwest have to offer. Smyth is an intelligent balance between the playful and the traditional. Enjoy soups, salads, appetizers and entrees as well as plates meant for sharing.

Smyth Ratings and Reviews
The food I ordered off the scaled-back brunch menu was warm at best which was surprising because it was not busy and there were only four menu options. Specifically, the biscuits and gravy were cold and the biscuit seemed like it was not fresh or had been microwaved and was hard (not hot). Having been to brunch there at least twice in the past, the approach has been scaled back and is now more buffet-oriented. The carving station seemed the same as in the past and the chef there was great. For instance, he noticed we were celebrating someone's birthday which was acknowledged by our server. The service was not attentive and actually rude. Foe example, we were given one menu and told to share amongst 5 of us and scoffed at when we asked for more menus. For the price, we won't be back. My husband chose it for his birthday because of our past experiences and this did not live up to those.
My wife and I had Sunday Brunch and were not disappointed . Our table was ready at the time reserved. Our wait staff was friendly and prompt. The Brunch menu had many options and the food was hot and tasty. Especially the made to order Omelets we had. The setting in the IronHorse Hotel was perfect. Will be back.
Went for the Sunday brunch prior to attending a show. All the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Arrived 10 minutes before reservation and was seated immediately. Brunch was very good and had a number of options for most tastes. Especially enjoyed the Tiramisu pancakes. A little pricey , but, given the fact that it was pretty much all inclusive (except bar drinks), we felt we were not disappointed.
Very disappointing evening all around! I have never been served "slices" of filet (2 whole pieces) instead of a whole filet... it also had white truffle over the top, which added a sweetness to the meat - not necessary when you have a great piece of meat! Our server was not good at all and this is coming from someone who waitressed for over ten years. Management did not deal with any of the problems with our wine or food in a timely or appropriate manner.
Food at Smyth was of an unparalleled quality in a unique environment unlike any other restaurant in the city of Milwaukee. The ambiance is amazing and the food selection top notch. Everything was most professionally and tastefully presented. Smyth is highly recommended for any time you wish to dine out at a quality establishment and turn the night into a special occasion.
I had heard very good things about Symth's all you can eat brunch so we decided to give it a try. I made a reservation ahead of time and we were seated immediately. It did take a little bit for the waitress to come over a few times. The one downfall was there were apparently three bridal parties at the restaurant at the same time, when we went up to the buffet, they were out of almost everything. We mentioned it to the waitress and she informed us they were working on refilling it. The bartender was kind enough to bring us another round of mimosas on the house while we waited. We had to go check to see when it was ready as the waitress did not come over to let us know. Overall, the food was fantastic, but it would have been nice if they had kept up with the food a little better.
I first have to say that we have been to Smyth 2x prior to this night. The first was a Valentine dinner that was a special menu and the second was Christmas Eve night. Both visits were wonderful, delicious, good menu choices. This visit (9/23/17), with a group of 7 friends, was a bit disappointing. The menu was an abbreviated version of their online menu (not a big deal), but it made the choices very limited. Also, we are familiar with unique dishes with smaller portions, but we were very surprised how little food was given. Salmon--two tiny pieces of rare salmon and Scallops--3 nice scallops but nothing else really came with these items besides sauce. I did not see that these were "ala carte" or that there were sides we could order. The Bouillabaisse was wonderful and an actual meal. The beet salad was just beets, not a salad and no other choice for a salad. I really will go back for their brunch--that looks delicious!!
We had a relaxing birthday dinner with wonderful food. The menu is sufficient with enough items to choose from but it is not extensive as some restaurants if that is what you are looking for. The staff was very accommodating and the food was delicious. I would definitely return.
Smythe exceeded our expectations. We were visiting Milwaukee for Labor Day weekend. We dined at Smythe based on reviews I read prior to arriving at the Iron Horse Hotel. The food was delicious, visually appealing, and service was top notch. We will definitely dine again when we plan another trip to Milwaukee.
Great service; small portions. Don't come hungry.
Filet was not cooked to satisfaction...and served in two medallions, not one tender juicy filet...and I would skip the sauce. The salmon was served more like an appetizer. The disappointment was simply because we thought this was more of a traditional steakhouse.
Wow! This place has changed from two years ago. The appetizer menu had nothing on it that was appealing. The dessert menu had absolutely nothing with chocolate and the overall menu selection was just so - so. The food that we did order was delicious but there just was not much selection on the menu. The really BAD thing was that the guy sitting next to us had on shorts, flip flops and a old white dingy undershirt. It was disgusting. People are paying $75 for an 8 oz filet - don't need to look at someone that just got OTB (off the boat). If you want to let any one in lower your prices significantly or put them in the lobby tables. For some reason that really bothered me. And the margarita had absolutely no taste. Wish we would of just ate at Applebee's.
The food was beautifully presented and very good. We dine often in downtown Chicago and still found the prices high. Also was surprised at how casually some diners were dressed. I know this is not something that is enforced anymore. It did detract from the ambiance.
Food was impeccable. Our table had the aborio, octopus, scallops, and cioppino. For dessert strawberry balsamic ice cream was good, olive oil cake with rhubarb also good although cake was perhaps a little too dense. This was a pretty critical group of people who frequently travel to major cities in Europe and the US and felt this food could stand up against anything offered anywhere. The ambiance suffered from the restaurant being fairly empty but the restaurant is comfortable and chic without being too fussy. Service needs some attention in my opinion server could not answer questions about the food, did not make us feel welcome, anything we asked seem like a chore. Rather than making us feel like guests I felt we were imposing on her enjoyment of her evening. Her assistant however was much better. Overall we would go back and hope to have a different server. If the front of the house could come up to the level of the kitchen this would be an exceptional restaurant.
The Sunday Brunch was just right for our group of 4: we love to eat and share good food. The service was impeccable from ease of reservations to the constant, though unobtrusive, attention to our needs. The brunch included a fun array of sweet and savory options: sumptuous help-yourself buffet, some made-in-front-of-you items, a small menu of small plates made in the kitchen, and 3 mimosas per guest. Everything was tasty. We were seated in the outer salon near the buffet, where we had a great view of the Harley-enhanced decor. I really enjoyed the smoked salmon and spinach salad spread with satisfying condiments. The small-plate kitchen-made tiramisu pancakes were a real treat and a perfect portion size. It was casual dining in an elegant setting. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
We have visited Smyth for Sunday brunch several times. It used to be one of the best brunches available anywhere. Our last two visits have been disappointing and this most recent visit has us questioning whether it's worth the money to ever return. Fewer food options to choose from & a couple of items that were just bad - biscuits & gravy and chicken fried steak. Smyth's Sunday brunch used to be a great place to treat visitors from out of town or for special occasions , but no longer meets it's own high standards from years past.
I wanted this to be great. I really did. Servers were kind and unobtrusive. Atmosphere was a bit dull but we were there early evening, but it still felt very flat.
Food was very expensive for what it was. It tasted tinned and wasn't what you would expect for such a high price. The wine was hugely overpriced and worst of all we left still hungry.
We really really wanted this to be good, we had really high hopes and the menu looked exciting, but the execution and price point let us down hugely.
