About Smuggler's Inn
Originally established in 1967, Smuggler's Inn has been serving Alberta prime rib to several generations. Always a popular place for Calgarians to gather and celebrate, we are the preferred dining choice for birthdays, anniversaries, milestones or just meeting friends and family. Our prime rib is the main feature of our diverse menu, available all day, every day any way you like it. From a 9oz. prime rib sandwich, all the way up to a 48oz cut, our succulent prime rib is sure to please any appetite. Cajun blackened is always a popular choice, as is adding a lobster tail or side of garlic shrimp. Of course there is a creative selection of steaks, chicken and seafood to satisfy everyone. With a soup and salad bar included with every entree, not many guests leave hungry, but it would be a great idea if you saved room for one of our delicious desserts...even if you plan on sharing.

Smuggler's Inn Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful place for brunch. Plenty of different options available and you won't leave hungry.
The only thing is it was a little quiet, and I thought some louder background music would be nice to impede the ambiance. Especially when you sit in an area with no windows.
Disappointed. Salad bar was very empty for the whole hour we were there. Two lettuce bowls were empty , veggies and ham were empty. One single bun sat the whole time we were there, bread was never filled, we waited. My side was cold and bland, I wasn’t offered a different side. Just whole thing was disappointing.
It was my daughter’s 18th birthday and we decided that we wanted an ancient to modern venue. Smugglers Inn was recommended and believe me we were not disappointed. The food was excellent, service was off the charts, ambiance was great (exactly what we wanted) and boy o boy the steak was really really good - way to go Smug you Rocked!
It took 15-20 minutes for our drinks to arrive. The sides were very disappointing. The supposedly “whipped” potatoes were dry and chunky (none of our party finished the potatoes) and the other vegetable served with the prime rib set was some sort of kale mixture which was tasteless and was more like a decorative garnish. After we paid and were leaving the restaurant the Manager asked whether we were leaving or going for a smoke. Overall it was a disappointing experience.
Everything from making the reservations to packing the food was a great experience. The prime rib was delicious. Been here many times and its always yummy. The service was excellent. My parents had a lot of friends visiting Calgary and no one really spoke English (which is why I was there). The server was very patient and friendly and wasnt at all deterred by the noise our group was making (we are very loud by culture). I had a great time.
Our first time here as well as our first anniversary and it was great! I thought it would be a bit nicer on the inside decor wise, and a thought it was going to be a bit more upscale to match the prices but it felt more like a family restaurant. Though we did get tucked away to a more private, quiet table which I really appreciate. Overall it was very good, the mocha pie dessert was amazing!
We will be back :)
Prime rib was awful. Worst that I have had in a long time. Yorkshire was like cardboard, soup was yummy as was the stuffed potato. Others at the table has salmon - tasted good; and beef dips - liked the pretzel bread. Seated near the door off the patio that people occasionally used. We thought that the door was locked as it is not the main entrance. Damned cold! Wouldn't recommend this place at all.
I think the restaurant needs an update. The chairs are big and comfy but so close together i dont know how people are supposed to get in and out. The place is super dusty. It really needs a good scrub down. The food was good but not for how much we paid for it. I choose the location as something special, but in the end came out feeling it did not live up to reputation.
I love smugglers however I don’t eat pork and they don’t have on their menu which items contain pork (bacon for example). I got the parmesan garlic crusted filet and it was wrapped in bacon. The menu did not say wrapped in bacon. Had to send back for a new one. Menu should be updated but otherwise food is always good
Had an enjoyable birthday lunch with my girlfriend . She had a generous size prime in sandwich she really enjoyed. Her potatoes were a bit dry, but the server suggested some gravy that she enjoyed. I had the Portuguese bean soup, salad bar with an ad on 5oz sirloin steak. The soup was delicious, salad maybe not that fresh, but not bad. I'm celiac and there were many options for me.
Finally, they brought her a generous piece of birthday cake at no extra charge. That was very considerate.
Our lady server, which I didn't get her name was very professional. I wish I would have remembered her name. I would definitely recommend Smugglers.
Visited for the first time. Interesting decor and atmosphere. Standard steak house prices. Great service. The food in the salad bar was a little tired but great soup. Steak was good. My seafood tasted slightly metallic and I wonder if the dish it was served in was responsible (perhaps it was new?). Dessert was delicious! Overall we had a good experience.
