Smokin' Betty's Ratings and Reviews
I had been to Smokin' Betty's several times but not for several years....for really no reason. In the past 2 weeks I have been here twice....when it rains it pours!
Once with gal friends and then with my husband. Each time was a winner. I had the salmon both times. Others have had pulled chicken, the ribs and chicken BBQ platter, a burger and fish tacos. Everyone enjoyed their meals.
I would suggest reservations, regardless as it a little small and it does get crowded, owing to that depending on where you are it can be a bit noisy, especially upstairs.
Mac and cheese and the bread pudding...must trys!
Visited joint because of their Home Made Mac & Cheese. This is one of my son's favorite dishes. We also love good BBQ even with an urban twist. The waiter was outstanding giving us his complimentary comments on what we were interested to order. I like when the staff's eyes light up. This prepares me for an excellent eating experience. I was not disappointed. Even the bread pudding after the meal with their secret recipe in house whipped cream was outstanding. Great time and a return trip soon...
Dinner for three before attending Walnut Street theater. We ate in the bar area. Bartender was very helpful on the large beers on tap list. Recommend the Left Hand Fade to Black. Pleasant and attentive service. Food was good. I ordered the tavern burger since I hadn't been there before. Next time I will try the daily specials. Desert was bread pudding that my wife shared with me. Not a fan of bread pudding, but this was really good. Should have asked for the recipe
Spending a few days in Philadelphia and was just looking for something different in our general area. Smoking Bettys came up and we thought it sounded interesting without being to formal.
It was a very nice place to sit, have a couple of drinks and some tasty food.
I would like to go back sometime and try more of the menu, as it was we tried a burger (made medium well the way I asked) and a chicken and broccoli rabe sandwich. Both were good. My only complaint was that during happy hour when the Yeungling on draft was only $3, that draft stopped working and I wasn't offered another draft for the same price. I did end up ordering another draft at regular price that was very tasty though.
All in all it was a very good dining experience.
We mistakenly forgot to make a reservation until last minute and thankfully found one 5 minutes before our reservation began here. We got drinks and split two appetizers, which was perfect to share. The service was good, but a little overwhelming - our server came over almost every 5 minutes on the dot. Granted, he was training someone, and better for your server to be there all the time than not at all. Overall, I would go back to Smokin' Betty's, but it's not my top place.
We were headed to MilkBoy and chose Smokin' Betty's to eat beforehand because it was right down the street. We were seated upstairs at a large booth. Plenty of room and no trouble carrying on a conversation. Our waiter was well informed and didn't rush us. Food was great, especially notable because none of us ordered "typical" entrees. Started with wings that were meaty and moist. We all loved our entrees - fish tacos, red quinoa salad, roasted veggie risotto and the cheese steak special. Highly recommend.
We've eaten here numerous times. The food is always great and the service is fast and friendly. It's only a few blocks from the Walnut Street Theater so we eat here before shows because we can have a great meal without spending hours here. We are usually pressed for time!
Food was hit-or-miss — “Betty Burger” was very good, other meals including the Mac & cheese side dish were bland. Service was good, but an air conditioning unit above our table dripped on several of us while dining. Previous experiences at Smokin’ Betty’s were good, but not this time.
I had the smoked brisket sandwich. Its was excellent. I just got back from the Dallas, TX area. Smokin' Betty's brisket was as good as any I had in Dallas. Betty's sandwich roll was tasty too. Also had the Reuben Egg rolls. These egg rolls were so good, I'd go back just for them. The biggest drawback at Betty's is the limited offerings of smoked foods. For example, smoked brisket is only offered as a sandwich; a very good sandwich. Why not offer a brisket platter with cole slaw and smoked beans. With a name like Smokin' Betty's, they need to offer a wider variety of smoked meats and platters as well as sandwiches. Overall, the food was good and reasonably priced for a downtown eatery. The place was clean and the service quick.
My girlfriend and I went here for dinner, 515 Sunday night. Brom was excellent waiter!! Recommended the jerk wings. These wings were hands down some of the best smoked wings I have ever had. I didn’t like the chili. It’s more of a thicker tomato based chili... borderline a mix between chili and homemade spaghetti sauce.
I will eat here again.
Made a reservation 2 weeks in advance and we were put on a bar table in the empty bar when I walked in with my 2 kids. Bartender took forever to acknowledge us. He then took the order and then sent the entrees before we finished apps when I specifically asked for that not to happen. It's a shame because the food was delicious. I expressed my displeasure, but it didn't mean enough for someone to come by and assess the situation. People come for the food, but they remember the service. This place was off the mark from the moment we walked in...bummer
