With two floors and two bars there is plenty of room for happy hour after work, business lunches, group dinners, and special events. Come enjoy dinner with the family, the big game with friends, or many of Philadelphia's annual promotions.
We presented ourselves on time for our dinner reservation following a show at Walnut Street Theater and were promptly seated. After a few minutes our waitress served us glasses of water and an older woman (not our hostess or waitress) came to our table and told us we would have to move because she needed our table for a party of 11 waiting to be seated. She then disappeared and a few additional minutes went by before we were again approached by her and our waitress telling us we were being moved to a high top table near the bar. She was very abrupt, not apologetic and we were not pleased with our new location. We are older ourselves and found the high chairs difficult and we were literally squeezed into our chairs in a corner with no room to breathe. Next the waitress announced they were out of two items on the menu. I inquired about the seasonal sangria listed on the blackboard only to be told they were all out of the sangria too. We both ordered burgers/fries and coffee/tea/dessert. We were pleased with our food and food service. However, we have been to this restaurant several times and have never experienced such poor hospitality. Throughout the meal we expected the older woman to approach us and offer an apology and an inquiry into our satisfaction with our meal but that never happened. Before departing we did a trip to the restroom and again, very disappointed. It was not clean, waste basket was overflowing and hadn't been emptied all day. I should add that we arrived before 5:00 pm (dinner time) and we were amazed that they were out of menu choices and drinks so early in the evening. We will not be headed back anytime soon. There are too many restaurant choices to try this one again.
Had looked forward to trying our Smokin Betty’s for awhile and ultimately disappointed in the experience. Arrived at 11am for brunch, seated at high top in bar area, fairly light crowd. Was enjoying drink and company and did not notice tables around us were seated, ordered and served while we waited for food. Food arrived ice cold. We returned it and was clear when it was returned back to us it was simply reheated and not remade. Eggs from my burrito wrap spilled out onto plate so burrito was warm but plate cold. Husband’s salmon over sweet potato mash - bowl was hot but clearly reheated only since salmon was dried out now and hash lukewarm. Bartender was strapped trying to serve the 5 high tops and everyone at the bar on this one. He clearly did his best. But we were always waiting for drinks we ordered and while we are lukewarm food, they still forgot my toast. After all that - bartender did compensate with a round fo drinks on house but manager never engaged, never checked on us. Never offered apologies for inconvenience. Food was okay but customer service absent the overworked bartender was subpar.
Service was very slow, and I felt the food quality was mediocre at best.
Best French Toast in the city!
The restaurant had over booked for valentines weekend and was very crowded. No seats available at my reservation time. Also seats by the windows were very drafty and cold. Unfortunately most of the seats on the lower floor are by the windows. The food tasted great. Will go again, in the summer
They sat us upstairs, I guess since a larger party. They tables around us all had chairs on top of the table. There was no ambiance up there like there was downstairs. The bar was closed upstairs and the waitress ignored us. The food was mediocre
Dined with my wife and kids. Placed was busy. Service was slow. Food was really good.
Everyone seemed really stressed out, our server wasn’t great at communicating and everything we asked for she “had to check” to see if they had it (they didn’t have Corona, egg rolls, steak, corn muffins).
They seated us upstairs where it looked like an old rec room at a community center.
Beautiful place and the food was very good. As a first time guest, would definitely recommend this place.
The food was great, pricing was fair, and drinks were refreshing. Our waitress, who was also the bartender in the area we sat in, was also super sweet. We were at a high top table in the bar area, which was a bit crowded but no complaints, since we chose our own seating. The only complaint I have is the staff at the host desk. We stood by the counter with no one else waiting for at least 5 full minutes without someone acknowledging we were standing there. There was a host standing there, who didn’t look up from the desk until the phone rang a few minutes into us standing there. While he was on the phone, a waiter came over and seated us. We mentioned our reservation but the waiter didn’t really ask anything about it. I got an email from open table later about the restaurant reporting us missing our reservation. None of these are major deals and doesn’t effect the taste of the food but worth mentioning.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
This was our valentines dinner after the car show. The food was great. The service was also good.
Fantastic food, and we made it in time for the great HH specials!!
always great. very good prices but above all else? Very good quality for your buck. Nice happy hour specials also. Probably could go here weekly and never get the same think but the short rib tacos, and the turkey dinner? Out of this world.
We were pleased with the service and items o. The menu
One of us however ordered a turkey burger
Which almost needed a saw to cut
In due deference I did not send it back because the meal was going smoothly and it was hard to get attention because we ate I. The bar
I suggest they use something to soften the texture of the burger
We however are ready to go back
The Reuben egg rolls were great. The short rib tacos were a little short on the rib. They were not filling as an entree. The buyers were delicious. The server never asked us about drinks. It seemed they were short handed at 5 pm.
Food was good and reasonably priced. Nice variety and a great children’s menu. Only problem was there was four of us (2 adults and 2 children). The children were served, then 10 minutes later my daughter was served. I waited an additional 15 minutes later to get my food. So now my daughter food was cold.
The meals should all come out at the same time
Smokin’ Betty’s got rave reviews from everybody in our 8 person party. Everyone agreed that the food was outstanding.
The service was slow. It took over 30 minutes to get our order & our server didn’t ckeck in with us for updates on ETA.
We’ve been here many times, always really good. This time we ordered eggs over easy. The eggs were very runny and not hot. Everyone has a bad day so we will go back. I don’t know if it was a coincidence but our regular server wasn’t there. There also seemed to be some new staff????
The BBQ sample was a very small portion. One of the things in the samples was chicken wings. I got ONE wing split in half. Someone else in my party said there fish and chips was not good.
Food and service was great, a little too loud for my taste.
I had fish and chips
The fish was cooked in oil that was too cool
The chips were past ideal serving time
This was my third time here
I don’t know if I would rush back knowing the service and quality that you can get in that neighborhood
Disappointing. Service was slow although restaurant was not crowded. Food for a table of 5 came out sporadically. Food was not tasty.
I would highly recommend this restaurant as the food was delicious. We went during Philadelphia Restaurant week which made our wait for food likely longer than it usually would be. The service was excellent and very attentive. It is a LOUD place so if you prefer a quieter venue this is not it.
Overall, the food was priced fairly and delicious.
The service was great. There were plenty of beers on tap to choose from and the descriptions were spot on. The cheese steak egg rolls were the best I’ve ever had. The buffalo chicken sandwich and the burger were both terrific. I can’t wait to go back!
We love it here. Food is great and staff is very friendly.
We came in for dinner with another couple and our kids with a party of nine on this past New Years Eve. Our server continually brought us the wrong beer and kept telling us it was correct after waiting almost 20 minutes for our first round of drinks. The food was decent although one person in our party got sick later that night from an under cooked hamburger. Overall very disappointed considering we were there last year for NYE and had a greet experience. Most likely won’t go back
Maybe an off night. Staff was really stressed and backed up. Good was good. Wait was just off and the stress really carried
The food is consistently very good. Brussel sprouts cooked and flavored to perfection. the variety of the choices on the menu is great even for your pickiest friends or kids. favorites are the barbecue and best turkey burger in the city.
We went for brunch during Christmas season. The food and drinks were outstanding! The wait staff was attentive and friendly.
Our experience was excellent. Family friendly. Excellent service. Fantastic comfort food.
This is the second time we ate at Smokin’ Betty’s. Our experience was lackluster starting at the front of house. The hostess was not present and when they were they proceeded to seat walk-ins prior to us with a reservation. Then it took awhile for our food to come out, which is okay, however our last entree was delivered an hour after our first entree was placed on the table. On top of that, we had food that was cold. When it was sent back to kitchen, we received another only for it to be cold as well. We hear the food is good, however our experience proved otherwise.
Unfortunately the restaurant was out of a lot of items including the Reuben egg rolls & reisling? But the cheesesteak egg rolls were delicious! My husband ate the Turk something & loved it, my salad was okay but will definitely try a bbq dish next time. I would recommend for a quick bite or dinner.
Tried the risotto. Excellent!!
Waitress was outstanding. Checked on us just at the right times.
Pricing for all the menu items was very fair.
Nice, relaxed atmosphere.
We have eaten here on several occasions before our plays at the Walnut Street Theater. On this occasion, whoever ordered the eggs at our table, they were cold and the bacon was cold as well. The only thing not cold were the potatoes. Very disappointed this time.
I had booked a large party for a birthday. The waitress did tell us she was new, so I can’t blame her totally but she didn’t know much about the menu options. The food came out very slow and separated so by the time we all had food, most was cold. When we finished the meal and after asking 3 times, we finally got the toast that was part of our meal.
We finished with a piece of cake for my mom and they didn’t have candles (even though we booked for a birthday) so we ran down the street to get some for the cake and gave the rest of the pack to the restaurant.
The food was amazing. Good portion size. We were seated very quickly, our bartender was very helpful in giving us some recommendations. He was also super attentive. I will definitely be going back
Our time there was terrible. The owner was extremely rude the entire time. We ended up not eating. I hate to say it, but it seemed like she was giving all the patrons of color a hard time. She turned a group of POCS away. She told us our table was ready then told us we couldn’t sit down. It was not a good experience at all. Sad to say because we were looking forward to enjoying the food.
