Smitty's Grill Ratings and Reviews
4.5 stars. We enjoyed a delicious dinner with friends. Depending on what is ordered, the food can be a bit pricey. However, the quality is excellent and well worth it for that special night out. The staff was friendly and very busy - which affected the service just a bit. However, not enough to keep us from coming back again soon.
The food was prepared perfectly...we got the ribeye steak, prime rib, chicken pot pie and Lake Superior white fish. It's nice that we were allowed to switch out side dishes. The service was impeccable and the bartender makes one of the best cosmos I've ever had. A great place to take friends.
I have been to Smitty's many time since it is an old school classic chop house and grill. Rarely there is a surprise and meals and service are consistent. However, we were seated in a space that should have NOT been a table right next to the bar. The waitstaff rushing by to get drinks at the serving station was rather distracting. Also the smell of disinfectant for the washing of bar glasses wafting over to our table was unpleasant. It took the waiter over 10 minutes to take our drink order so service was slow and unpredictable which was surprising since he had to walk by our table every time to get his bar order. Our second order of drinks came AFTER dinner was over so we did not get to enjoy wine with the meal. Desert took another 10-15 minutes to get served for a slice of chocolate cake. Was not the most pleasant experience I had there since the restaurant has been around for awhile in Pasadena and their act should be more together.
You must order the corn bread in the skillet! It's so scrumptious, just don't eat it all at once or you won't have room left for the delicious dinner. Chicken Picatta & crusted Whitefish were delicious. Staff is friendly, well trained & efficient. Whenever we're in Pasadena this is our go to place. There is a quieter area toward the rear of the restaurant & an outside patio. Valet parking available behind the restaurant.
Once again, Smitty's was awesome! Great cocktails (their blue cheese stuffed olives in their martinis are THE best to be found anywhere). Tuna appetizer was delicious. Filet was exceptional. Sea bass coated with Parmesan and with anchovy butter was heavenly! We had no room for dessert, even though we love their desserts! (And their bread is super crusty on the outside and wonderfully chewy on the inside!). Can't wait to revisit this restaurant on our next trip to Pasadena!
We took our son to celebrate his 18th bday.! He loves Smitty's! They had a very nicely written card and beautiful orchids waiting for him. I requested that they do not sing, since he does not like attention to himself, so the waiter brought a delicious dessert, brownie sundae, with a candle. (When you call in your reservations, let them know that you are celebrating a special occasion and they will make your feel wonderful!!
As this is part of the family of restaurants that boasts The Arroyo Chop House as one of their stores, I have to give Smitty's Grill, high marks. Go for the classic standards, i.e., a gin martini, ice berg lettuce wedge with blue cheese and bacon, creamed corn, baked potato and a great grilled rib eye. You will not be disappointed.
If it's a romantic occasion or a business meal where you would like to have a private conversation, reconsider. The noise level inside is deafening. Your choices are to scream or run screaming from this place.
We went with our dear friends to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. When we arrive the table was adorned with a beautiful single orchid and a birthday card. The service was great, we enjoyed cocktails and a great bottle of wine and dinner. The key lime pie was sublime and the cast iron skillet cornbread was heavenly. We will definitely return.
My father and I enjoyed his 93rd birthday celebration at Smitty's Grill. They were able to accommodate his off-the-menu request for prime rib, which was done perfect to his specifications. Our family has always held our breath at other restaurants never knowing if his steak was to going to be to his liking. Smitty's Grill was Spot On. After a sigh of relief, our service was warm and friendly. And he loved the complimentary rich brownie and ice cream. It was a lunch to remember.
Was at Smittys about 3 years ago. Was great then. But now, Horrible. Food was bad. Went with friends for a Birthday dinner. Hostes rude and ignored us standing in front of them until we addressed them. Ordered a basic Burger, and was cooked like it was made at Jack in the Box. The meat looked grey (yuk) and was cold. The Service was ok. The kitchen, when you look from dinning area looks old and out dated. Chiefs looked bored. This place needs a face lift. On a better note, went to Houston's the next day and was 5 Star!
Smitty's is a gem. The menu is varied enough for any taste, and daily specials usually make me change my mind about what I planned to order from the menu. Service is truly outstanding. Pricey, so I visit only on special occasions. The bar is another truly outstanding aspect of the restaurant. Interesting cocktails and a formidable wine list. If you don't mind the price tag, you won't be disappointed.
Service was sporadic. Wine glasses were dirty when set on the table. Food was good. Nothing WOW but good. Worst part was the bug on the berries atop the creme brulee. Apologies and a bill reduction but ick. Disappoointed as it came well recommended from several friends. Noise level was high as we were seated on floor. Get a booth and it's probably quieter.
I've always liked Smitty's. Unfortunately I don't get there as often as I like, as it is a long drive from my home (45 minutes when there are few traffic problems). However, I received an email from them saying that when they revised their menu, they had removed their liver with bacon and onions. The hue and cry was such that they decided to have it as a special for the first weekend of each month. I immediately made reservations for my wife and I and a friend of ours. He and I ordered the liver while my wife ordered an excellent petite filet mignon. As to the liver with bacon and onions, this is the best you will ever have in your life. Add to that the warm and relaxing decor and excellent service and it was a perfect evening.
