Always reliably great food. Always excellent cocktails. Always excellent service.
Smitty's has been our go to restaurant for birthdays for several years. Simple food done well. Chops always nice choice with black cherry/Cabernet reduction.
We were greeted in a very welcoming manner. I told the person how we were having a goodbye dinner for some close friends who were moving out of state. The waiter was so friendly and helpful in choosing our menu items. One salad had to be returned because my friend had neglected to mention her tomato allergy. They brought her a new one w/o tomatoes and did not make a big deal out of it. The food was delicious, from the appetizers to the dessert. They even brought a second dessert to celebrate our friends. The next day our friends said how much they loved the restaurant and how memorable everything was for them. Thank you for making this special occasion special. Even the valet was so very courteous and helpful!
Enjoyed a great business lunch at Smitty's in Pasadena. Corned beef (and a bagpiper) to celebrate St. Patrick's. Great wine with lunch. Atmosphere, service and food are all excellent.
Did not have a great experience with the hostess.
This time the food was very average. Pork very undercooked: (sent back) . Short ribs good on the inside, but too tough to chew on the outside. Mashed potatoes and veggies were great.
We were so close to the table next to us that we heard 30-40 minutes of "first date" chatter. Thumbs down on that!
Disappointed for the non birthday greeting the staff did not provide i am sure I had requested it as part as the ocassion
Kale salad wonderful, corn bread great, steak a bit tough, liver and onions very good. Service could have been much better. Our waiter seemed overwhelmed for the job. Usually so much better here.
We've been to Smitty's many times over the years and we've always enjoyed the food and had good service. This time we noticed a change in the quality and flavor of the food. The portions were also smaller. The service was good, but we all remarked that we were a bit disappointed in our meals. We will probably dine at Smitty's again, but we hope we have a better experience.
Smittys grill is Always consistent-excellent ambience, excellent service-amazing food!!
Smitty's is always first choice for friends' get together lunch or dinner - it is unfailingly top notch for food, service and ambiance.
I ordered the beef stoganoff. My husband had the sort ribs which rated as very good. My stroganoff was a lot of noodles, a little beef in comparison to the amount of noodles and very little sauce. The dish was totally void of flavor.
Cocktails were very good.
We had a great time at Smitty's - the food was delicious, and the service was great. Our server, Johnny, took great care of us and accommodated a few special requests with ease. Great wine list and a the menu was easy to customize to our tastes. I will definitely be back next time I am in town.
I've been going to Smitty's Grill for many years and have never been disappointed in the food, service and ambiance!!
My husband liked the sand dabs. I wasn't thrilled with the crab salad. The crab was very salty for me.
My newest go-to for great comfort food! Oh, and they've got the biggest shrimp I've ever seen for their shrimp cocktail. Great service and really nice atmosphere. I can imagine it could get a little noisy, but on both occasions I've been there ( a lunch and a dinner), the noise level has been fairly low; great for table conversation.
We’ve been going to Smitty’s for years for special occasions like our double birthday party of 6 last night. There was a noticeable departure from the solid service we are accustomed to receiving there last night. Multiple requests for more water went unanswered and we did not see our server for long stretches of time. After it was pointed out that he was recognizing only one of our two birthdays with a small complimentary dessert, he replied, “Well I brought plenty of spoons to share.” Wow. Then a good 20 minutes went by with our credit card clearly ready to go in our check, but again it was as if we were invisible (This was a $300 check with wine and appetizers so he stood to be tipped well, as we like to do).
I’d hate to have our positive association with Smitty’s tarnished but this was a real disappointment, overshadowing 6 generally solid entrees (including excellent NY Strip and Cioppino).
Smitty’s has yet to disappoint. The locals come back and so do I. Maybe it’s the corn bread? The chicken pot pie? The trout almandine? From the valet parking in the back to the well crafted Smitty’s martini this place sets a welcome tone in Pasadena. Ok, it can be a little loud but it’s alive and doing well with its staff and menu. Do make reservations. Don’t miss it when you are in town. If only more towns still had places like this!
Lovely neighborhood resource! Comfort food, generous drinks, and delicious desserts.
Everything was perfect. The Food, the service and the atmosphere. I look forward to returning.
Came here for birthday dinner late one evening and had a fabulous experience. The service was impeccable. All the staff was polite, helpful and personable.
The food was excellent. We ordered:
buttermilk fried chicken with two cute little cornbread muffins and honey butter - great crispy but light batter crust. The cornbread was good. I might have even ordered more if we sat a little longer.
Smitty’s Famous Meatloaf - a nice slab of meatloaf and gravy always hits the comfort spot.
The Grill Cheeseburger - good burger cook medium perfectly. Shoestring french fries we crispy and plentiful.
They had a salmon special, I don’t remember what it was called. It was a wee bit over cooked for my liking but the flavors were good.
We also ordered a side of creamed spinach. It was pretty hearty. I personally would have liked it a little more “creamed”.
Since I booked on Open Table and let them know we were celebrating a birthday, they had a birthday card waiting for us at the table and a small ice cream sundae at the end of the meal for the birthday girl.
Very over priced for the quality of food and the ambiance. Food took over half an hour to arrive and my medium rare steak was beyond well done. Avoid the crab cakes as they taste as if they were previously frozen.
This was our first time here. We were pleasantly surprised how much my husband and I enjoyed dining at Smitty's. We made the reservation online easily and the times available were plenty. When we arrived we were immediately seated in a booth which surprised us because the place was busy, not crazy busy but it looked full. Our waiter was very nice and courteous. The only minor issues is that our cocktails (and coffee later on) took a bit on the longer side to arrive but we were not in a rush so no big deal. The food was tasty and the atmosphere was very nice. Had a Houston's vibe but not as loud and much easier to have a conversation. My husband said we will definitely come back because next time he wants to try their specialty pot pie. Also, they do have a private parking lot in the back which was hard to see at night. We didn't see it on time and parked in a paid parking lot right next to their lot. Doh!
Fabulous - ALWAYS! We love this place. Come here often because it is so good, so consistent and service and food are wonderful.
Service was great. Chicken was over cooked and dry. The noise is so loud you can’t have a conversation.
The atmosphere, which I relly like, is up scale east coast urban. From the welcome at the hostess desk to the end of the meal, all interactions with Smitty's team are professional and pleasant. Of course, the food is great. For value, you cannot beat the several standard specials that are very moderately priced. The chicken pot pie is amazing. This place is a winner - which may be why Smitty's is so popular.
Always love eating at Smitty's. Shrimp cocktail is awesome! Had the trout the other night and it was very good. Only disappointment is that they took liver and onions off the menu except for the first weekend of the month. I am from CT so I think they should have it every FR, SAT, SUN. Sand dabs are also tasty.
Smitty's is always my first choice for a great lunch or dinner with business associates and friends. The food, service and ambiance are top notch.
We have eaten at Smitty's numerous times over the years and have always felt it rated a 4 or 5 in the past. This time, however, something was amiss. We were seated in a back room which, while very quiet, was very unsocial and felt very stiff. The waiter seemed to get to us in a delayed fashion most of the time. The food was just average for all three of us and, in the past, it has been better. We're hoping this was just an off night for them.
My cousin, his wife and my girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed my birthday dinner. Great food, service, and atmosphere.
Overall experience was good but had to wait 30 minutes for a table even though we had a reservation. We overheard someone who arrived after us with the same reservation time get seated before us.
I love the chicken pot pie and this time, it was the best I've had... the taste was excellent and there was more chicken. Always love the crispy crust! The champagne was excellent. Loved our dinner!
Smitty's is always delicious and fun - it's my absolute favorite restaurant!
Always a great meal with a calm ambience
Smitty's has a great lunch menu as well as dinner. We spent three hours there because you aren't rushed to eat. You can have your cocktails and/or wine with an appetizer then order your dinner. Their menu has delicious comfort food and daily specials. I recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
It was great. The noise level was a bit much. We enjoyed it.
Came here Saturday to celebrate Valentines Day early. Food was good and our server was attentive but, it was just way too loud. We could barely hear each other. Probably because we got seated by the bar even though it was 5:20 and the restaurant was half empty.
No one said anything when we left, even the waiter who was right behind us as we opened the front door on the way out. A simply thank you would have been nice after spending over $150 on dinner. I doubt we will ever come back.
An early birthday lunch.
Service could have been a bit better, otherwise it was fine!
Oh I love “ our” booth - and our Server is wonderful too- met Greg Smith this time- well done for my birthday lunch thank you !
