Judy Judy Judy was our waitress and we could not have had a better experience ... She was superb!!
Great food and service
We were short on time since it took us 1 1/2 hours to get to the restaurant from the Westside of Los Angeles. However, it was well worth it. The food was delicious. Sand dabs are so rare these days and had to order when I saw them on the menu. My husband ordered the famous chix pot pie. So so yummy. Wish we had time for a little dessert but we were off to the Pasadena Playhouse. The food was so much better than the play we saw. Anyway....can't wait to come back!
We've always enjoyed Smitty's, however, our last two visits have been slightly disappointing. I asked for my steak medium rare and it was over cooked. I asked for a baked potato because the mashed potatoes lack flavor. The rest of my party enjoyed their meals but there were no raves. We will continue to patronize Smitty's because the staff is friendly, the service is efficient, and we are comfortable there.
What a great place -- outstanding service that foodies will love!
Smitty's is always a go-to place for a great lunch or dinner with friends and business associates. Excellent ambiance, food and service can be counted on each time.
Had a lovely night with my wife! Ambiance and service was just fine.
We had the shrimp and calamari appetizer --- very good!
My wife had the Smokehouse (?) burger --- also very good!
I had the New York steak aged 40 days (cooked rare) --- not that great, especially for a $42 steak.
I was expecting a very tender cut that would be easy to chew. What I got had a huge chunk of un-edible gristle and fat that ran the entire length of the steak. Just cutting that sucker off was quite a to-do. The edible part of the steak itself was seasoned just fine and wasn't dry, but ooph, I found it rather tough to chew. Sizable steak that it was, my jaw was a bit tired by the end. Now I'm no master chef, but the $7 on-sale steak I bought at Vons and grilled on the BBQ was more tender than that. I wasn't going to say anything to my wife (who very much enjoyed her burger), but she said to me after a few bites of my steak "The steak you cooked last week was better."
That I spent $42 on a sub-par steak is a bummer, but we did still enjoy ourselves! We would definitely come back again---I would just be more hesitant to order steak.
I also consider your restaurant for special occasions, dinner with friends, or just want to have a good meal with great service and staff.
7:45 reservation - kitchen completely backed up - waited hour post appetizers for dinner to arrive
Great food as always. The key lime pie was awesome and love the fresh made potato chips.
Smitty's never disappoints. Consistently delivers good food, excellent service and grown-up ambiance. A classic in Pasadena.
Smitty's is always a reliable first class choice for lunch with a friend or business associate - excellent food, service and ambiance.
First time coming here and not only were all our orders delicious, our waiter was fantastic and really made it a special night. Will be coming back soon!
A wide variety menu steaks, fish and burgers
We had such a delightful experience at Smitty’s! It was a great restaurant to take my mom and my boyfriend’s mother to. They both loved their food and enjoyed everything about the restaurant. I will be heading back to eat there again very soon!
It's one of my wife's favorites but our larger group was crowded, the noise level was too high, and frankly the menu choices are a bit too familiar. Maybe they could add a duck and a pasta special.
Great food as always. We love the lively, cozy atmosphere. The pot pie is terrific. We will be back!
Love you all at Smittys! Met Mr Smith in my birthday in Feb at table 52!
Food was not up to Smitty's usual fare. Had to wait for reservation table to be vacated and re-set. Noise level is most difficult to hear a conversaton - better when adjacent tables were vacant.
Excellent, as always!
Always reliably great food. Always excellent cocktails. Always excellent service.
Smitty's has been our go to restaurant for birthdays for several years. Simple food done well. Chops always nice choice with black cherry/Cabernet reduction.
I am always a fan of places with free valet parking so I started off in a great mood. I greatly enjoyed the pleasantness of the host staff and the attentiveness and the food and wine knowledge of the wait staff. It was also great to see the manager pitching in full force on a busy night.
We were greeted in a very welcoming manner. I told the person how we were having a goodbye dinner for some close friends who were moving out of state. The waiter was so friendly and helpful in choosing our menu items. One salad had to be returned because my friend had neglected to mention her tomato allergy. They brought her a new one w/o tomatoes and did not make a big deal out of it. The food was delicious, from the appetizers to the dessert. They even brought a second dessert to celebrate our friends. The next day our friends said how much they loved the restaurant and how memorable everything was for them. Thank you for making this special occasion special. Even the valet was so very courteous and helpful!
Enjoyed a great business lunch at Smitty's in Pasadena. Corned beef (and a bagpiper) to celebrate St. Patrick's. Great wine with lunch. Atmosphere, service and food are all excellent.
Did not have a great experience with the hostess.
This time the food was very average. Pork very undercooked: (sent back) . Short ribs good on the inside, but too tough to chew on the outside. Mashed potatoes and veggies were great.
We were so close to the table next to us that we heard 30-40 minutes of "first date" chatter. Thumbs down on that!
Disappointed for the non birthday greeting the staff did not provide i am sure I had requested it as part as the ocassion
Kale salad wonderful, corn bread great, steak a bit tough, liver and onions very good. Service could have been much better. Our waiter seemed overwhelmed for the job. Usually so much better here.
We've been to Smitty's many times over the years and we've always enjoyed the food and had good service. This time we noticed a change in the quality and flavor of the food. The portions were also smaller. The service was good, but we all remarked that we were a bit disappointed in our meals. We will probably dine at Smitty's again, but we hope we have a better experience.
Smittys grill is Always consistent-excellent ambience, excellent service-amazing food!!
Smitty's is always first choice for friends' get together lunch or dinner - it is unfailingly top notch for food, service and ambiance.
I ordered the beef stoganoff. My husband had the sort ribs which rated as very good. My stroganoff was a lot of noodles, a little beef in comparison to the amount of noodles and very little sauce. The dish was totally void of flavor.
Cocktails were very good.
We had a great time at Smitty's - the food was delicious, and the service was great. Our server, Johnny, took great care of us and accommodated a few special requests with ease. Great wine list and a the menu was easy to customize to our tastes. I will definitely be back next time I am in town.
I've been going to Smitty's Grill for many years and have never been disappointed in the food, service and ambiance!!
My husband liked the sand dabs. I wasn't thrilled with the crab salad. The crab was very salty for me.
My newest go-to for great comfort food! Oh, and they've got the biggest shrimp I've ever seen for their shrimp cocktail. Great service and really nice atmosphere. I can imagine it could get a little noisy, but on both occasions I've been there ( a lunch and a dinner), the noise level has been fairly low; great for table conversation.
We’ve been going to Smitty’s for years for special occasions like our double birthday party of 6 last night. There was a noticeable departure from the solid service we are accustomed to receiving there last night. Multiple requests for more water went unanswered and we did not see our server for long stretches of time. After it was pointed out that he was recognizing only one of our two birthdays with a small complimentary dessert, he replied, “Well I brought plenty of spoons to share.” Wow. Then a good 20 minutes went by with our credit card clearly ready to go in our check, but again it was as if we were invisible (This was a $300 check with wine and appetizers so he stood to be tipped well, as we like to do).
I’d hate to have our positive association with Smitty’s tarnished but this was a real disappointment, overshadowing 6 generally solid entrees (including excellent NY Strip and Cioppino).
Smitty’s has yet to disappoint. The locals come back and so do I. Maybe it’s the corn bread? The chicken pot pie? The trout almandine? From the valet parking in the back to the well crafted Smitty’s martini this place sets a welcome tone in Pasadena. Ok, it can be a little loud but it’s alive and doing well with its staff and menu. Do make reservations. Don’t miss it when you are in town. If only more towns still had places like this!
