About

A sense of history envelops you even before you’ve stepped through the small black door at the end of a cobbled King's Cross street. Inside lies a dimly-lit Victorian den where candles illuminate intimate alcoves. The character of former blacksmith’s is most notably retained in the original cobbled stone floor and big Victorian gas heaters. A fantastic little Modern European menu has something to hit most spots, with bestsellers being, seared scallops, chorizo and pea puree for starters, and Cote de Boeuf with Béarnaise to share. Daily specials live up to their name.

Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant was just the right place for a quiet catch up on a Monday night. Relaxed, casual and quiet, it was a remarkably different to when I had been there towards the end of the week when it is more energised. The service was attentive, the food good, and the wine selection ranging from affordable to 'special occasion'. I'll definitely be returning to this venue, right by Kings X its so accessible.

Smithy's Restaurant - a nice place and good location for meeting when people are coming from different directions. I found it noisy in teh restaurant but this might not bother other people. Good and pleasant service, nice food, and generally a good atmosphere. I liked it.

Smithys is a nice place close to Kings Cross for a relaxed drink and meal. Food is at the expensive end for a gastro pub affair, but it is good

Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant. Lovely ambiance - tucked away from the bustle of Kings Cross. I had the swordfish - which was delectable - and portion sizes good. Wine however, seemed overpriced to me (£12.50 for 2 glasses) and service a little, well, rushed.

Great food, good service, good atmosphere....turned out to be a bit more expensive than we originally anticipated...but then we did reorder the wine.

Smithy's in Kings Cross was a great valentines spot! The food was great if a little pricey (although with a view card everything is half price, so I plan to get for next time), the staff were really friendly and they made extra effort to make it romantic. My girlriend and I really enjoyed it and will definitely be going back.

We went for Sunday lunch - very quiet and a bit soul-less. The staff needed to work harder to make up for the lack of diners.

The service at Smithy's was excellent and the food very good but perhaps a touch more expensive than I would have expected...worth a visit and with any of the offers on here it'd be good value. Based on my non-scientific test that good hot chocolate and chips mean the food is generally good, then anything on the menu is worth having, but the ravioli was delicious. Would only pick them up on the lack of non-meat options.

Felt like a village pub, which wasn't what I was expecting just near to Kings Cross! Good atmosphere although the food was a little on the steep side - still when it arrived was well worth the money!

Had dinner at Smithy's on a busy Thursday night. Glad we booked as the restaurant was full after an hour! Started with mains, I had salmon which was delicious but only came with spinach so not incredibly filling and £17! My boyfriend ordered lamb but got steak, we didn't complain and he said the steak was tasty but on seeing another table order (and get!) the lamb said he would rather have had the lamb! Ordered desserts after since we were still hungry, one hot choc cake and one crumble, yummy!

My partner and I went for dinner at Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant on Friday night and immediately liked the quiet location within bustling Kings Cross.

The food was fantastic, even better than I had expected after reading some of the reviews on Toptable, which is the reason I would recommend it to friends.

The reasonably priced bottle of Chillean red was also delicious and felt the evening was good value.

The only gripe would be how loud the place is due to the hard surfaces.

Smithy's is a great place to dine or just have a drink with friends. The steak and chips was really tasty but unfortunately many items on the already quite limited menu were not available. The service was also pretty sloppy. I would go back though as the decor and ambience are really nice.

Despite the claim of 50% off meal they seemed to have uped their prices so a bowl of chips at the weekend is £3.50 but on the offer it's £5. Food was very good and good value on the deal but i wouldn't pay those types of prices normally - £14 for a bowl of vegetarian pasta and £6 for a bowl of soup!

smithys is a good place to meet friends in London. It's near Kings X, but on a very quiet alleyway which you can stand around drinking in. The food is fine, though the place can be a little loud with all the hard surfaces. But there are not many places where you can stretch out with a large group in this town, so keep it in mind for those occasions especially.

This is nice venue tucked behind Kings Cross Thameslink. While the quality of food was good, the prices were far too high. Luckily when we went there was 50% the a la carte menu which made up for this. Service was moderate but not above average.

This is such an excellent find - great ambiance and fantastic food, hidden away in a quiet back street near Kings Cross. I had a perfectly cooked steak wth chunky chips and salad which was absolutely delicious. The house red was so good we had far more than intended. Service was great too. I will definitely be going back there.

I was looking for a place to catch up with a friend over dinner, and Smithy's search result surely stood out with the average score 7.4 based on 200+ reviews and their 50% off food offer seemed too good to miss.

I agree with many other reviewers here, the decor is indeed unique, I do like the cobbled stone floor with wood panelling and raised areas. The food is good, falling into the category of small food to size of plate ratio. I definitely think the prices are high without the offer.

Once we'd found Smithy's (near Kings Cross, London), we were impressed by the lovely decor although it was less old school and cosy than we were expecting. Decent service and they did move us to a nicer table when we asked, although the waiter let our wine bounce on the floor! Both of us had the same: foie gras to start which was passable and then the bavette steak which was INCREDIBLE, particularly because of the accompanying jus. Half price offer made it good value.

Food was very nice, well presented, there was a offer of 50% off for July and August, not sure if I would want to pay the real price but this was a very pleasant surprise, would like to visit again but in winter time. It is not that easy to find but worth it when you do.

After a period when it frankly went a bit overposh, Smithys is back to its best - great atmosphere, friendly staff. good food and reasonably priced wines. And as it's tucked away it's a bit of a secret, which is a surprise for guests.

Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant in London is a good find in King's Cross. Food was good value on the 50% off but would be overpriced for a pub at full price. Menu is good with a reasonable choice and the food was tasty and well presented. I liked the quirkiness of the place - it's an old smithy and stables complete with indoor cobbles.

For this area this is a great find. Went for a business lunch and unfortunately as they were understaffed things did take a little longer than anticipated. However they were very apologetic. Food was of a good standard - very good value with the 50% off they have between now and the end of August. Would go back definitely for drinks as the pub area is nice and much brighter than the restaurant.

We visited Smithy's Wine Bar & Restaurant (London) on a Monday evening. The restaurant was virtually empty, but it was charming and atmospheric. Service was good (although the waitress had a minimal command of English, she did her best) & the food was superb. The goats cheese tart starter was very good & the pesto was an unusual but successful twist. The lamb and steak mains v good too. But without the 50% discount this menu seems quite pricey. Take advantage of 50% off before end August!

No mention of roast dinner on the menu though it was on the web site. When I asked I was told it was available. Not sure how people would know this though! Food was excellent especially the roast beef and good value with the offer but would be somewhat dear without. Interesting decor and a relaxed feel despite the fact that it was almost empty (it being a Sunday afternoon). Apparently it gets really busy in the week. Friendly service. Would definitely go back with the offer.
