Smithville Inn Ratings and Reviews
I’ve eaten here on many occasions, and today was my first disappointing experience. The young hostess (not the hostess I’ve seen here for years) told us that we would not be seated in the usual dining room overlooking the lake because that room was too cold. I can roll with that. What I couldn’t roll with was waiting for the table that was reserved for my party—we were ON TIME—after watching her escort the same-size party to a table just in front of us. Food was very good, but our waitress was mostly absent. I cannot blame that on the number of tables she was waiting, as ours was the only table in this smaller room she was serving, and the large dining room was closed, as already mentioned. She did not offer dessert. Just as well. Because she was slow, we could have been there all day.
This is our second visit for the Sunday brunch. The food has been very good both times. If you have mobility issues there are steps to navigate to get to the food. The omelet station and potato bar were both very good. I also like that they have creamed chipped beef, a bit salty but that's just about everywhere when you get it.
I hate to be negative but they have just the worst service! I thought maybe the first time was a fluke, but sadly no it's just awful service. Once you're seated your server may or may not bring your coffee and water. Refills? forget it. Clearing away dishes? forget it. I mean you literally have to try to flag someone down for a cup of coffee or just about anything. Then the poor young guy who poured me more coffee reached in front of my daughter to pour, she literally had to lean back so he wouldn't hit her in the face. I say poor because the servers who get the tips do nothing, this one guy is running around doing their job. They never ask if everything is okay or if you need anything else once you're seated. I just can't believe I even tipped on this service. I have to say both times it was the worst I think I've ever had while eating out.
Price is $30+tax+tip. Small Mimosa $2 extra.
My fiance and I love coming to the Smithville Inn whenever we can pull ourselves away from the "daily grind" of life! We escape and stay a couple days at the "Colonial Inn" Bed and Breakfast and ALWAYS have our dinner at the Smithville Inn. We were so lucky this time to have a WONDERFUL (and quite entertaining, as well!) waiter by the name of Mike Ryan. He not only was efficient and professional....but he was fun and had a great personality. Even though it was a busy evening for him as far as the number of tables he had to service, he was on the top of his game by making sure every one of our needs were met....and in a timely manner! We were extremely pleased with his service and will request that we sit with him again the next time we go. Additionally, we were there on a Wednesday night and were excited to see live music.....the jazz trio "In Trio" performed from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.....without any breaks! They were WONDERFUL! Their style of jazz was relaxing and quite enjoyable. Our only complaint was that we ordered the "Veal Parmesan" and it was not quite up to par. The veal was tough and the sauce was acidy. It almost seemed that it was not something that was made fresh....and that it had been made much earlier in the day and then heated up. But, I must say that the New England Corn Chowder and the salad....as well as the DELICIOUS Blue Cheese salad dressing.....were EXCELLENT! I wish I could have taken home a HUGE pot of the soup....it was that good!!! Our overall experience was an awesome one and we will be back again very, very soon!
We were at Smithville Inn for NYE with a group of people, the food was very good for most of the group, but someone had a problem with their fish. The manager came over at once and took the fish off the bill. We will go back to the restaurant whenever we can.
Because it was New Year's Eve there was a special menu which we didn't expect. All 4 of us were disappointed in our meals. My meal was veal milanse with arugala on top of it, no potato, rice or other veggie-for the price they charged I should have had something with it. Rack of Lamb was on the tough side. Shrimp cocktail included 3 shrimp for quite a high price. We have been to Smithville Inn several times before and always loved going there but not this time. Service was extremely slow. Pianist was excellent with great music choices.
Been to this restaurant many times for lunch an dinner. W e have never been disappointed in the food the service the atmosphere. The drinks are great. We were there New Years Eve for dinner which was great. The piano player was suburb!! We tell everyone we know about you and how much we love coming here. We have given gift certificates to our family and friends. Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!! George and Angela Buchanan
My wife and are locals and we went there for holiday dinner. Had to send my entree , stuffed pork loin back - too much garlic. Replaced with prime rib-again garlic prevailed and meat was a bit dry. Had a few bites and took home. My wife had rockfish which was seasoned with too much black pepper and fish was dry. Corn soup was good and wine was very good from extensive list.
Took my family there for Christmas dinner. Everything was lovely. They decorate the lake with trees that blink to music. A few shops were open, we walked around after dinner. We had apps., wine, drinks also had desert. Everything was good. Even the kids loved the duck quesadilla and calamari. The table was lovely. I ordered some flowers from a local florist. They were delivered right on time.
Beautiful restaurant especially this time of year. Fabulous food - taste and presentation. Great service. Our server, Laura, was fun and attentive. Our glasses were never empty. Even through there were a few tables of 10 or more people, it was uncomfortably noisy.
