   I had the goats cheese starter, Cornish sole for main and chocolate brownie for desser – all excellent quality and quantity. My wife had the chicken teriyaki first, then seabass and lastly sorbet. She enjoyed hers too, but not to the extent that I did. I also enjoyed my chardonnay wine. When I ordered online, I was asked whether this was a special occasion. I said it was my wife's birthday, but there was no mention of it by the staff at Smiths. Why? What was the point of asking?

   Took my fiancée here for her birthday. From start to finish the experience was amazing. You couldn't fault it from the food to the service. We will definitely be returning.

   Highly recommend Smiths in Ongar. The food was outstanding, the service was impeccable .

   Visited for lunch and had the set menu. Appreciated the home made roll and butter included as you are often charged for this now. The beef teriyaki and prawn, salmon and cod croquettes were both delicious and generous portions. For mains we had skate (my mother was thrilled that they had a middle skate for her), sole fillets and two portions of the scallops with bacon. All dishes were well presented and delicious. My grandson couldn’t manage all his main but they kindly boxed and bagged it up for him to take home We all chose a different vegetable dish so we could share, again the portions were generous. We only managed two desserts and my lemon syrup sponge pudding was outstanding. All staff were very pleasant and the atmosphere was relaxed.

   We heard great things about this restaurant for a while, and we are so glad we decided to try it out for ourselves. The food was amazing and the staff couldn't be more helpful Great experience

   This is one of the best restaurants in the area. Never disappoints. Outstanding as always.

   Having enjoyed a meal at Smith’s Wapping, we thought we would go to Ongar and enjoy the countryside. Smith’s set a very high standard of quality with their food and service, we had an excellent and enjoyable lunch and everything was perfect. The staff were also excellent They even have ample parking! Wish there more restaurants at this level.

   We took my mother in law, aged 91, for Sunday lunch today as promised for her Xmas present! She's been before and had been saying how much she'd like to go again. We weren't disappointed, the welcome was warm and friendly and the restaurant had a fabulous ambience. All the staff were incredibly attentive and very professional but friendly at the same time. The food was fabulous, two of us had the roast which was perfectly presented and beautifully cooked, I had the Atlantic cod which also was cooked perfectly. The side dishes of veggies were delicious too. I can't recommend Smith's highly enough for that special occasion, it was good value and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, thank you all x

    For us it's for that special occasion. Can't really find fault about Smiths. Food is exceptional, service is excellent. For that special occasion would happily recommend.
