Fish and Chips
Traditional beer-battered haddock fillet, tartare sauce and chips
Nearly 1 hour to get served, ok peak lunchtime, but even so a bit long
Service was acceptable however nothing could make up for the temperature of the restaurant. An issue with air conditioning which we endeavoured to survive but by end of our main course both of us wrapped in blankets and absolutely freezing. Wine list poor and not value for money
Great food; great location but the restaurant was very cold
Very friendly staff and good food. Love the decor! The music was a bit too loud though.
Friendly service, but music was way too loud at the bar area...
Nice staff but unfortunately food was cold and service slow.
Food was excellent. Don’t appreciate being hounded for a tip on top of the 12.5% service charge. I will happily pay a tip or service charge, but not both, especially as we were paying service on overpriced wine.
Smith's was a fabulous place for our get together and Sunday lunch. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, service and ambience. We would definitely go again
Very nice restaurant. Would recommend this restaurant.
Have been here many times before but this time it was like walking into a disco. The large front area (bar) was very noisy and deserted -which can't be an efficient use of floor space. Having asked to speak to the manager requesting that the volume was reduced, our waitress just said this couldn't be done (on both accounts). There are other reviews complaining about the noise, dismissed as merely 'energetic'. Disappointing that the management responded to customer dissatisfaction. Food is quite good with some interesting dishes, but expensive. Nice airy venue.
Lovely location and great place to eat and catch up with friends.
Great location directly behind paddington station. got shown to table straight away. After sitting for 10 minutes we asked for menus and then immediately asked for 2 pink gins and lemonade, after a further 15 minutes one gin turned up only and it was with tonic. We stated ok for the tonic but bring the other with lemonade. 5 minutes later the waiter took the one back saying it was wrong! Took our food order and we also ordered a bottle of red wine, this arrived within 2 minutes and was poured 5 minutes before the 2 gins finally arrived as ordered, some 40 minutes after arrival. Food was all good and served promptly, tasted good and presented well. I know that all businesses are suffering with staff levels and training, I would say bar staff/front of house need a bit more training as kitchen staff seemed to be doing a good job. this was 12.30 table tuesday lunchtime and probably only 10 other tables being used at the time of arrival so not a busy period.
Delicious Sunday roast.
The restaurant is well presented and decorated. Staff were superb and the food was delicious.
Bar at front was of putting as it made restaurant seem full and noisy. However the restaurant area was quiet and relaximg and the food was great. Friendly ataff with a smile on their faces and they were attentive
The server didn't have the reservation, couldn't find it. Luckily the restaurant was empty at this time but pretty embarrassing
Nice food and relaxed spot for a lunch
Nice quite spot on a Sunday.
Felt the Sunday lamb roast was on the small size but I still enjoyed it.
Food was very favourable! Had the Sunday Roast! Will definitely go back!
A lovely evening, and the tuna steak was the best I had ever tasted!
I love the canal in this part of London, so the location is excellent and the restaurant is large and airy, which is good for the Covid Era. The food was perfectly okay and the staff are very friendly, if almost comically slow and forgetful on this occasion. For whatever reason, I think they were having a challenging day and I know that supplies and delivery can be a problem these days thanks to B**x*t among other things. I would go back.
Got the set lunch menu, good prices and decent food.
It was so loud in the restaurant I couldn’t have a conversation. Never again!
Service was slow and only half the meal arrived. When we pointed it out they brang the rest over but after we had finished everything. They still made us pay full price wasn’t a nice experience and the staff wasn’t apologetic. It definitely ruined the my Sunday roast
Friendly staff. Food was ok, average. My Sweet potato beetroot salad was so disappointing, far too much rocket and a minimal amount of the main ingredients described on menu for £10.
Location is fantastic, vibrant and lively area.
Very nice spot for a weekday luncheon. Good food, attentive staff and overall excellent experience
Exceptional service from our waitress. She went above and beyond for me and my partner as it was his birthday. The food is unbelievably good and the drinks are very addictive! She was kind enough to book us a taxi and tell us the nearest hot spots for some dancing - 100# would recommend and will be coming back!!
Great for a drink, though gets extremely busy but does have a buzzy environment.
The restaurant area has great ambiance but very limited menu and average food quality.
Enjoyed the overall experience :-) I would recommend and will also return.
Food was amazing, the menu is extensive and wine list too. We went for Sunday Roast and ant fault anything! We will definitely be back! Definitely in the top 3 roasts in London!
Thanks Smiths Team
Great food, not very busy lots of idle staff who kept to themselves.
Limited wine list, could not buy a bottle of the wine we enjoyed by the glass - go figure! Had to buy a really expensive one as closest alternative.
They sung happy birthday and brought a dessert which they charged us for!! Given the bill was over £240 I thought this was particularly churlish.
We couldn’t fault the food and our waitress was funny and responsive. The atmosphere was hollow but may be a great venue for a party.
We loved our meal it was yummy and the service ad atmosphere was excellent
Very noisy - almost to noisy to have a conversation. I booked a table for 3 for a business meeting, expecting a table away from noise the hustle and bustle of waiting staff; I was given a very exposed table right in the middle of the room, close to the pass so staff would be moving back and forth in front of us and a very noisy spot. I asked to have another more suitable table and this was a real chore - poorly handled and at first refused! When I finally was given another table it really wasn’t much better. Food was OK, fresh and tasty, well presented but poor value and overpriced. Reasonable but overpriced wine list. Service was ordinary and without a smile.
love the ambiance and staff are friendly and accommodating
Perfect for a business lunch in the Paddington area
Lovely food, great staff, just a bit too noisy with music
Food and service was good, but music was too loud in the restaurant area...I felt I had to shout when having a conversation.
We were ignored and eventually left without ordering.
Arrived and taken to our table, not left with a menu and no drinks order taken.
We were then ignored by waiting staff who weren’t particularly busy judging by the number of staff hanging around.
We eventually left and went elsewhere.
Clearly they weren’t affected by the pandemic.
As various Trip Advisor and Google reviews say, terrible service, best avoided
Food was delicious, for a simple burger, nicest I've had in a long time. Unfortunately, despite it not being busy on a Friday night, they had loads of staff but no consistency in them serving specific tables, therefore, we were never checked again once we got our food for more drinks or dessert menu without us having to prompt. Asked for recommendations for the dessert and to explain some of it, the server was very poor in knowing what or how to sell it so we didn't order anything. Server didn't even know what sweetener was either and just a general sense of confusion with all the staff. Venue is really nice, and food good, but considering times are tough, and people need jobs, appreciate that they may have lots of new staff, but they need to get the basics right in training good waiting staff, it was frustrating to see so many missed opportunities this restaurant is lacking in, when all they need is to invest in more efficient customer service training. The staff should also understand and know the menu being offered. The male waiter literally couldn't describe anything properly of what was on the dessert menu, and this just made us disinterested. Restrooms were bit scruffy too, considering again the number of staff on that night and the lack of capacity. Sloppy standards, and has potential to be great.
We sat outside, it was busy so the noise level was quite high as there were many people walking along the canal.
The waitress came quite quickly but didn’t get the drinks order exactly right but changed it when asked.
The food was hot when it was served - my roast pork was delicious as was the veggie option.
The accompanying vegetables and Yorkshire pudding were nicely presented. All round enjoyable meal.
