The evening started with the hostess’ comment that we were almost 1/2 hour late. I checked my OpenTable confirmation, and we were actually 10 minutes early. Atmosphere was great, but food average at best. Server did not tell us everything on the charcuterie board, and when we asked her to do so, she didn’t know.Both steaks ordered medium rare came medium well and were tough. Both veggie dishes mushy and too much sauce. Timing of food service was good, but overall way too expensive. Live country music duo performing in the lounge does not fit the restaurant
Person I was meeting arrived ahead of me. Was already seated when I arrived. So I joined him. I assumed he checked in and was seated with our reservation . 30 minutes later our third person arrived. Gentleman who seated her reminded that I didn't check in when I arrived. He thought I was a no show. In a rather odd way he kind of gave me heck and said three strikes and you are out with open table. As I mentioned I had only started issuing the app a week ago and also thought my friend had us seated he just reminded me of the rule I broke. Not very welcoming and the restaurant was 70 % empty so my reservation didn't take away from someone getting seated.
The food,ambiance and service overall was good. We did not appreciate that we had to pay to park our car there. Among the 6 people there, 3 of us had cars. That came to $12:00. If we are using your establishment you should have a procedure in place that we would get our money refunded.
The ambience was nice. I normally like going for the live music on the weekends and they have great hand-crafted drinks. I think the food is okay, but nothing rave about. The price for what you get I wouldn't say it is worth it. There are better restaurants in the city that charge those prices but better tasting food. The biggest disappointment was the staff. The hostess and waitress aren't very friendly or welcoming. The waitress had a condescending tone when she answers questions.
For the price of the meal I expected more. The food was Ok, no wow moments and nothing I would order again. The steak tartar in particular was cut so big I could see the marbling in detail. If you're going to spend more than 150 on dinner, make it worth your while and choose a different restaurant.
Had brunch on the weekend. French toast was undercooked and gooey in the middle, remaining food including three types of eggs benedict was bland and under seasoned. The highlight of the meal was the really good pancakes with cinnamon butter. I really want to like this place because the venue is beautiful and convenient but this is my second visit (breakfast and dinner) with mediocre food
- Drinks were outstanding - creative and balanced.
- Cured Fish plate was excellent, great texture and flavour.
- Whiskey-Smoked Olives were severely over-smoked and tasted like cigarette smoke more than anything else which was very off-putting.
- "Chips and Dip" were ok. About 1/3 of the chips were very soggy but the rest were crisp. The dip was very plain but good although it wasn't mixed thoroughly so you sometimes got a bite that was 100% cream cheese and nothing else which wasn't great.
- Salad (Iceberg) was hugely disappointing. After how much care went into the cocktails and cured fish, we were expecting this quality to extend to the rest of the menu. It was a huge pile of plain lettuce with 2 soggy tomatoes, a few cheese crumbles and 2 pieces of bacon bits. Extremely bland and boring.
- Decor is very minimal, we were on the kitchen side with no decoration at all. Very sterile feeling. The bench seating around the walls is too low... I was sitting about a foot shorter than my husband who sat across from me in a chair which was strange.
Staff was very nice and helpful.
We were seated at a table that wasn't clean. Our food showed up in less than 5 minutes which was obvious that the food had been sitting in the kitchen for sometime because it was somewhat cold and dry tasting. The service was mediocre. Overall, it was a terrible brunch. Very disappointed because we made a reservation for my daughters 18th birthday.
We went to SMITH because of the reviews and we were not disappointed!
The surroundings are beautiful kind of Cowboy chic meets Modern funky. Live music was playing and the band was great. Our server was outstanding, personable but not pushy and very helpful.
The food was incredible, the portions were a good size and very fresh combinations. The Beast of the Day is what I ordered and it was spectacular a Bison short rib over smoked mashed potatoes! Absolutely melt in your mouth and perfectly seasoned! My wife ordered the Arctic char which was also delicious. I wish we had room for dessert.
We are already planning our next visit.
I would give this place more stars if I could!
Go to SMITH you won't be disappointed.
Had a nice lunch with friends on the patio with lovely plants surrounding us in glorious summer weather and wasps weren't a problem even though it's August. The chicken quesadilla was very tasty but an extra charge was applied to the bill when I asked for salsa to go with it. The waitress should have mentioned the charge as although it was very minor, I don't like surprises. Sangria also very tasty. Service was pretty good although we were served another tables' food in error initially, which was attributed to their computer system. Overall, a very good time. Parking was difficult as parking spots in the back were closed off for a special event even though the restaurant was fairly empty. None of the negatives I mention were major, but always room for improvement.
It was my first visit to Smith and was very happy with the experience. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. He gave us space to decide but also gave recommendations. The cocktails were delicious. Sausage board was fantastic! Will definitely go again.
