Took my wife here for Valentine's day and we had the most amazing time. Great food and even better service! Will make this a regular dinner spot from now on. Our server was Wales G. and he was outstanding! Made us laugh and knew every item on the menu and which wines to pair with them. He should be in management very soon.

Seriously - this place is really overrated. The decor on its best days is moderate mid-priced mid-century restaurant. It doesn't feel like the clubby older steak house or the modern upscale steak house. Just stale. The service was just plain bad. We waited 20 minutes for a soda, the entire food service was rushed. If I am paying over $ 200 for valentines dinner I wanted to dine, not feel like I am in a diner. The only thing that was decent was the steak, and that was not the most amazing steak I had ever had. The side dishes - the mashed potatoes were soupy and the cheddar bacon tater tots well let's say the bacon was all lard making the tots kind of inedible. I was definitely disappointed in this restaurant. I have been to other S&W and even to this one before, but this was really underwhelming, and would have me choose another steak house for my next dining experience.

I had high expectations for my Wife and I are our Valentine's day Dinner, but unfortunately we were disappointed. There was one waiter for about 30 tables, although he was pleant, he was stressed and spread thin, he was forgetting orders and I could see many others as disappointed as we were . We ordered an appetizer that never arrived, we sat with empty water glasses for quite some time. I ordered a small bottle of Champagne (way over priced), had considered another glass of wine with dinner, but was never given the opportunity due to the aforementioned waiter. Although staff apologized and we were given a dessert at no charge, a restaurant that is charging so much for their entree's really should not have such blatant challenges. No repeat business from me, too many other great options in the area.

Let's start w/ the bad ... we sat for 15 minutes before seeing a server, when we finally saw her she cleared the table next to us instead of greeting us & maybe taking a drink order. 20 minutes later we are finally greeted - she was very nice, but after 20 minutes I didn't want to hear about her favorite steak - take our drink order, apologize and let's go. About 10 more minutes go by, we still have no drinks. We are starting to regret our dinner choice. Enter Jordan. A new server approaches and with a great personal touch - he apologizes, explains that S&W practices a team approach & that he is going to be taking over for our previous server, he bring us our drinks right away, along w/ bread and takes our appetizer order. He was incredibly attentive, and salvaged our dining experience. Granted we sat for 90 minutes before our food came out, but the food was outstanding & truthfully I didn't come here for a fast food experience so I was ok with it, and given that it was a date w/ my beautiful wife I enjoyed the time with her. Overall this was a good experience, but if our waiter Jordan hadn't intervened it could have gone south. Bone in Sirloin was really, really good.

I had the ribeye, and it was as close to perfect as a ribeye can be, and worth every penny. The bread served before dinner was good, and came with whipped butter. That being said, the rest of the food was average, and not close to worth the prices that were charged. Your main course comes with no sides (sides are $15-20 for a 2-person serving), I had asparagus, which was significantly undercooked and the ends hadn't been cleaned. The scallop appetizer was good, but again, overpriced; over $20 for 3 scallops that, again, hadn't been properly cleaned, and a hunk of pretty good bacon. Drinks are pretty standard DC prices, expect to pay around $15 for a glass of wine or a cocktail. The server was quite pushy, insisting that we should get more sides, another glass of wine, multiple deserts or after dinner drinks. He didn't seem to accept that we weren't going to order twice the food we could possibly eat. It took about 35~40 minutes to get the check. Again, the server tried to get us to order more after we had already asked for the check, then brought us a check with 2 items on it that we hadn't ordered. It took him about 10 minutes to come back to our table after we asked for the check, and it took 4 visits from him for us to actually pay our bill.

We had a group of 16 (8 couples). When Chelsea contact me earlier that day to confirm I advised her on the occasion. We arrived and spent about 45 minutes at the bar with great drinks. Then were were escorted to the 2nd floor to our on room by Chelsea and the GM, who introduced himself to me and made us feel very welcome. We had a spacious dining area with a view of the City Street. We were provided music of our choice as well. The food was great and we were able to enjoy the night without the worry of disturbing the other patrons in the restaurant. Very good night!

My husband and I had dinner at Smith and Wollensky on the Saturday before Valentine's Day. We made 5:30 reservations, arrived at about 5:25 and were seated right away. Our waiter arrived a few minutes later and took our drink order. I ordered some type of raspberry martini from the cocktail menu. However, my glass had smudges around the rim. I pointed out the concern to the waiter and he provided a new drink. We wanted to order raw clams which the menu indicates they have available, but the waiter said that we had to order the seafood tower which contained a lot of seafood that I was uninterested in. We then ordered a salad. He comes back a few minutes later and says that the chef said that he could give clams. But then he comes with a plate of 6 clams and 6 oysters. I continued to be confused by why I couldn't order something that was actually on the menu. Our entrees were tasty, the Cajun filet (for me) and the ribeye (for my husband). The Cajun filet was tasty, but almost too spicy. We shared creamed spinach and the truffle Mac and cheese both of which were excellent. I wish our meal hadn't gotten off to such a bad start, hence the four stars. When you're going to pay $200 plus for a dinner for two there are no excuses.

The wait staff were amazing, everyone was cordial and attentive. My waiter even brought me two different wines to sample so I had the perfect one for my meal. The food and presentation were above excellent! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone! Thank you so much for making our evening memorable!

My service experience was terrible. Had to keep getting the waiter because they didn't check in on us. Asked for tap water for the table and charged my group of 9 $60 on our bill. Ordered an appetizer that I never got and by the time the waiter came back which was over 20mins after my guest got there's I just wanted my food at this point. I hosted a gathering for my birthday and truly did not enjoy my experience. Food was good when I got it.

My husband and I came here for restaurant week. We came on a Saturday night and the restaurant was busy but not over packed. The service was great- they were able to change us to a table that was in a nicer room. Our waitress was kind, knowledgeable about the menu, and attentive without being overly attentive. The food selection was great and our steaks were cooked perfectly to our liking. I started with split pea soup which I never had before. The waitress brought out a sample for me to try. It was delicious! Not too heavy and not too salty. I had a medium well filet and my hubby had medium rare which most restaurants get our orders confused. We were so full we had to take our cheesecakes to go. Great food and great portions. If I could afford a $50+ steak more often I would definitely go back. I'm looking forward to trying other menu items in the future.

Four women walked into Smith & Wollensky thinking we would have a quick lunch and get back to the office: WRONG. We stayed for 2.5 hours, laughing and enjoying ourselves. We just hope we weren't too loud for other diners. The GM, Ned, was most gracious as was our wait-staff person. We had very delicious meals and an excellent time. S&W allowed us the perfect venue for a significant birthday celebration. THANK YOU.

I've been to S&W several times for business lunches. The service is great and the steaks are awesome, just what you'd expect for a high-end steakhouse. This time I went during restaurant week, where restaurants get to show off a sampling of their cuisine, usually 3 courses, for a set price. I was not happy with the choices given for this special week. There was one steak option, which had an $8 additional charge. The other choice was chicken, and the 3rd choice was a burger. I am used to restaurants showcasing some of their best dishes during restaurant week. Instead, I felt cheated here. I went with the burger, served with fries and coleslaw--not what I wanted to try for restaurant week.

So lets start with if your have to wear your COAT at Dinner its to cold inside, I understand that it was 30 but making it comfortable for your customer should be a priority, this particular Smith and Wollensky's is really old to the point that the ceiling tiles are falling down in certain places of the restaurant I am stand old rustic look but this place is just old should be remodeled years ago I visit the Miami location multiple occasions and never had this type of problem

came to Smith and Wollensky for my boyfriends birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. The food was really good, but what topped off the experience was our server Jimmy. He made us feel at home and that we could really relax. He also gave great advice on the menu items. We ended up splitting a steak and getting a few sides, still a lot of food but much less than we would've ordered with out his guidance. He was really attentive and took good care of us . I'd definitely come back for a steak and the great service!

The drinks at the bar were expensive but well made, however, the bar tender was put out and irritated when we asked for split checks. After being seated, the drinks took nearly 45 minutes to arrive, and the server had to come back to the table twice to confirm the dinner order, substantially delaying our meal. The food was adequate, but for the price there are many other places in DC offering better cuisine.

so my boyfriend and i have a list of top steakhouses and we want to hit each one. hence, our dinner at S&W. both first-timers. and we both had the same reaction. it was okayyyy. would we go back? mayyybe. service was a little spotty and it wasn't particularly busy. i found it odd that we were seated without menus and later brought them. they also did not have a recent gluten free menu but were able to accommodate. steak was cooked perfectly, but they go for a char steak, if it's your flavor, great. then you'll love it. the side dishes were out of this world. in fact, i'm still dreaming of the mushrooms.

We went to Smith & Wollensky after another steakhouse decided not to open on the holiday and cancelled our Open Table reservation. She started with the Split Pea Soup while I had the Cup of Beef Bacon. The latter was very tasty, but left me with the conviction that bacon should come from a pig. We both had Sirloin Steaks for our entrees, hers with a Spicy Lobster Tail. Mine came well done as requested. We ended with a couple Old Hollywood cocktails for dessert and complimentary cider, to which we had Jameson Irish added. Service by "Troy F" was friendly and efficient even though he seemed a bit over-burdened by the holiday crowd. The only flaw for my Bratophobic girlfriend was the presence of a couple families with small children. As it turned out, however, it was the adults in those groups who were annoying loud not the Future Taxpayers. We will return to Smith & Wollensky.

Locals know the “real” business of Washington often gets done over the dinner table. And on any given day, our steakhouse is a prime place to spot the wheels of democracy in action. The outside patio is perfect for cocktail receptions . You’ll find a variety of private rooms overlooking the city.
