Smack Dab Ratings and Reviews
We visited on a Sunday for lunch. Two mature females and our over 90 Mum. The things we liked most were the view, excellent menu, tasty food, good service and non intrusive but trendy music. The portions were large and filling. Prices were good but smaller portions with smaller price options for seniors would be preferred.
There is a $29 set menu with either appetizer/main or main/desert. No option fir appetizer and desert which was our preference. As none of the set menu items interested us, we ordered off the menu and had seafood chowder, steamed muscles with pita/naan (enough for two), Green salad with prawns, arugula salad and sour cherry cheesecake. Apparently you can request the salad as a side but we didnt see any mention of this. The desert cheesecake was good, but small considering how large the appetizers and entree were.
We booked online and selected “birthday” but no mention was made and no candle arrived with the cake. This was mildly dissapointing as we expected some quiet acknowledgement for my Mum who didn’t want a fuss, but a candle would have been nice.
I’m going back this week with a friend for her birthday and will see if this was normal or an oversight.
Service was exceptional. Food was hot and timely. Veggies were so so. Eldente with a lot of crunch. Did not meet the knife test. Pasta smelt like a fish dish which if fresh would not have noticed. The veal and lamb was great. We had a lovely evening and that's what mattered. Hard to be on top of everything.
I could sign it Gordon Ramsey(which I'm not) but if asked I will tell the truth.
We were staying at the resort and thought it made sense to have a birthday celebration dinner while we were there. We weren't disappointed. Everything was great. Especially the mussel on tomato sauce. We dreamed of drinking the mussel sauce straight out of the pot - amazing!
Smack Dab has a great patio, fabulous view, a good basic comfort food. The prices are too high for the cuisine though - it's charing 4-star pricing for 3-star food. The service leaves a lot to be desired though. Our order was messed up a lot - vegetarian meal came with prawns. Fries were plain forgotten. Appetizers arrived at the same time as mains. Waitress doubled down on the bad service by trying to tell us that we miss-ordered... vegetarians are pretty good about not ordering prawns...
So, other that the prices being 30% over what they should be, and the our particular waitress being awful, the food is good and the view is great.
Wonderful ambiance and waterfront setting. A must-go-to restaurant for all special occasions. We do not live in Kelowna but visit about four times yearly and have made it a habit to go to Smack Dab every time we are there. Fantastic food and appetizers . Service was very prompt and dependable. We enjoy the place tremendously.
Booths are too tight - both in table space and leg room.
The seating by the kitchen is less than ideal.
We should have been offered tea and desert menus - we would have ordered tea/coffee for sure as we wanted to sit and chat. Maybe they wanted to move us out?
We had dinner here on Saturday evening (we had breakfast here earlier in the day). Both meals were great, but dinner was crowded and noisy! It was Saturday night during summer, so I assume that added to the crowd and noise. Service was a little slow since we were in the lounge area and the bartender was doubling as a waiter. Food was good though, and we weren't in a hurry so it was fine. Definitely make sure to make reservations on weekend nights during the summer- this place was busy!!
I booked on line and asked for a patio table and second choice was to sit by the window. There was 5 people. They were from out of town and I really wanted them to have a nice view that is why I chose smack dabs, unfortunately when I arrived on time for my reservation there was no patio or window seat available and ended up at a bar table with no view. Very disappointing and had I known before arrival I would have chosen a different venue
I was not expecting a pub/sports bar style of restaurant and it got quite noisy. The dinner menu was quite limited. We hadn't been there in a few years when the decor was a little more formal. We went for a nice anniversary meal and view and got a noisy surprise.
Food was good, view was great. Service was weak. We were given our appetizer but no cutlery to eat it with. As the night got darker, we couldn't see our food. Had to ask to get the candle on our table lit. And no extra plate to put our empty shells. Not impressed with the service.
Great scenery and atmosphere...sadly the service was not at the same level. Waiter forgot to order one of the meals, neglected to bring the water we requested for one of our kids, and left us unattended on several occasions for extended periods. Food was OK...not expedtional or poor. Had higher expectations.
We went to Smack Dab for a group Birthday Party of about 15 people. Had a fair amount of issues with the reservation and having it set up correctly. Once it was set up it was decent. As for the menu many of the guests had issues that it was too basic, there was not very many options for our vegan guests. The service was ok, the main server was not what we would call friendly but she wasn't horrible. The wait for food and drinks was longer then one would expect. Overall I would recommend this place for dinner but not for large groups.
My wife and I took two Australian friends to Smack Dab for dinner. Norm had steak and was most impressed with the quality and flavour of the meat. Narelle had a mixed dish which included meat and shrimp and again, was very happy with her meal. My wife and I each had what was shown in the menu as a starter "shared" dish. The ribs were delicious, and truthfully one order would probably have been sufficient for the two of us.
Interestingly, our server was also Australian and we enjoyed chatting with him about his 2 year work experience in Canada, and his plans to soon return down under for his last year University law studies. Altogether, a most enjoyable evening.
Overall a great evening out for our group of 8! Seated directly by the glass windows, we were afforded a gorgeous waterfront view. Food was fantastic and our children enjoyed the root beer floats and people/boat watching. The only hiccup was upon arrival, when we stood in a line to get to the hostess table, despite a reservation. The entry was quite congested with diners both coming and going, making it a bit disorganized. Will definitely come back and would recommend to all!
The view of this restaurant is exceptionally stunning. We ordered a linguini vongole, I was super impressed by the freshly made pasta; it was so silky. The chef lavished the sauce with garlic, shallot, butter and basil aong with a hint of white wine, it was heavenly. My son enjoyes the seafood chowder a lot. Even the kid's menu cheese pizza was amazingly done. Service was awesome. We would definitely return to this place and would recommend this to others.
Only 2 good things: location and lake view. Parking lot is horrible and the walk to the building can be far, made even worse by the fact that you have to go into the restaurant, get a parking pass, and walk all the way back to the car to place it on the dash. Not smart. Service was awful. Saw our waitress maybe a half dozen times throughout the meal. Never brought water refills even after asked. Sat with 4 empty glasses on the table and she didn't even flinch. Wouldn't return for over 10-15 mins at a time. The food was so-so to extremely bland and I was served a rare pork meatball with my pasta. They sent it back and 20 minutes later the manager came and tried to tell me my bright pink meatball was fine (never got my replacement meatball). After trying to tell me red is the colour of meatballs, they did take it off the bill though. Just overall an awful experience. Don't go unless it's for drinks on the patio.
