I like Slys. The people are nice. The food is good. Our dinner however Friday was frantic. Not relaxing and the service was unaware of themselves. Our kind waiter was literally racing around like a maniac and busy but we sat for 30-40 min before we ordered and while we tried to enjoy our time the wait staff and busboys were throwing plates to set tables, throwing silver ware into the drawers behind us and then vacuuming all around us while we ate!!!! We brought friends from out of town and I was embarrassed. We had told them how much we loved Slys. I guess my advice to the restaurant is to maybe tell your waiters and service people to be aware of how loud and intrusive they are being while customers are trying to eat. It was chaos. The dining experience was not pleasant Friday. Hopefully it will be better if we go back. It’s a good place, so we probably will try again.
The food was very good, our waitress efficient and friendly, but it was impossible to overcome the unattractive ambiance -- the decor is dated and dark, the ceilings are low, and if you are seated at the the back of the restaurant, it's impossibly claustrophobic. I would never recommend this restaurant.
always excellent. hand crafted, unique dishes, wonderful deserts. a bit pricey but worth it.
A meal at Sly’s is always enjoyable. The food is why we go, it is well prepared, extremely delicious and presented well by a great set of wait staff. Chef Sly and his entire kitchen staff create the impression that your meal is the only meal they are interested in making. One final note, Sly’s Bloody Mary is as good as it gets.
Sly's continues to be a favorite restaurant of ours. It's fun to drive to Carpinteria, a laid-back beach town, to eat at Sly's and walk around town before or after.
The food at Sly's is always fresh and flavorful. We especially love the seafood: abalone, scallops, sand dabs, and more. The potato skins are crispy, and the cocktails are the real thing. The menu is large and diverse.
Sly's never disappoints. We have been dining here for years, and have yet to have a bad meal. Although the menu is a bit pricey, the quality is worth every penny. There are hidden gems all over the menu (Cuban Chicken, Chili, and the mussels just to name a few) and some delicious lower priced options as well. It is the perfect place for a special night out or a quick lunch by the beach. With an extensive wine list combined with Sly's attentive and knowledgeable staff, each meal here is sure to be a highlight of your night out in Carpinteria.
Great food. Great service. Everything was exceptional.
Cheese cake was not great weird texture week on flavor..... Apple crisp was to die for
We went to Sly’s for our anniversary. We had seen it on a trip to Esau’s in Carpinteria. There are not any great steakhouses in Ventura, so our 15 min drive was no big deal. Our meal (porterhouse for 2 served Peter Luger style, half & half, Brussels sprouts) was sublime. The service was great, the owner toured the tables and we will be back. Pricey, to be sure, but I’d put it up there with The Palm for sheer steakhouse excellence.
Superb steak; very fresh fish; ice martinis; good local wine selection. This is a pricey restaurant for the area, but worth it.
Always excellent!! Food, service and atmosphere! And always consistently great!
Sly's is always Dependable! We can count on having excellent food, superb service, and a quiet corner all to ourselves! This latest visit was before a concert, and the timing as always, was perfect. As a surprise bonus, my husband was Stoked to finally eat a Peter Luger steak! Wow!!
I was secretly pleased that the Nantucket Bay Scallops were on the Specials, just like last year at this time...a bonus for me!
Our server, Izzy is just The Best! We're always so well taken care of, we feel Pampered & Special. The food is always the finest quality, and we've never been disappointed with anything! Wish we were richer...we'd be here weekly! See ya soon! XOXO
Delicious food, wonderful service
One of my favorites. Something for everyone. Great cocktails too!
Loved the Race Car Theme....Big Fan
Waitress Angela was a delight!
Great! We love sitting at the bar
The restaurant has a good vibe, is unpretentious, and the service is great. However, the food was fairly average, particularly because the prices are on the high end. Also, the noise level in the back part of the restaurant makes it hard to enjoy a good conversation.
Sly’s never disappoints. The menu is old school, but in the best possible way. Seafood - check. Steaks - check. Pasta dishes - check. Hamburgers - check. A bar that knocks it out of the park - check. And don’t get me started on the onion rings!
Sly's is dependable for good service - you can dine in the bar (which is fun - and there's a great happy hour 4- 6 weeknights) or dine on white table clothes in the back rooms where you can actually hear your dining companions and great black and white photos by Jesse Alexander line the brick walls. Sly's can be pricey (sides are separate) so bring you gold AMEX card. Hoping they start serving lunch again - brunch on the weekends is great. Love their onion rings, potato skins with side of sour cream and the carbonara is to die for - heavy on steaks - some seafood - sand dabs are lovely Sly can go heavy on the butter, but you can request "light on the butter"... Save room for desserts!
Sly's is delicious! Great steakhouse with tons of options. The service is outstanding! 5 star restaurant without the stuffy atmosphere!
Always great steaks. Service usually good and ambiance just OK.
The entire meal was amazing. I can’t wait to go back for more.
Luncheon was delicious, and it arrived nicely . The wait staff were extremely pleasant and did their job well and unobtrusively.
My luncheon plate looked very attractive.
Awesome as always. Loved my GREEK salad with warm feta.
The high-priced steaks were not very flavorful and were not cooked to my wife’s and my order.
We love Sly’s
I just love this place. an amazing expansive and delicious menu. never disappointed
This has become one of our favorite restaurants in all California. Reliably extremely great food, combined with warm, friendly staff and a comfortable atmosphere. Whether just the two of us or our extended family, when we want an excellent meal, we’ll drive the 35 miles up the coast to Sly’s.
What a special meal! We felt so comfortable and the menu for the night was a special salute to Julia Childs including crepes Suzette for dessert! Wow!!! Love this place!
We love Sly’s!!! It’s always an enjoyable dining experience. The food is thoughtfully prepared, hand picked everything from cuts of meat to the veggies. A must when in the area. The owners are hands on to ensure the best possible occasion
Always a “Superb” dining experience. We have been guests at Sly’s for over 5 years. Fantastic friendly attentive service, consistently well prepared food. The only wish I have is the wine by glass be a taller pour, otherwise 5 stars all the way. Highly recommend.
Everything was awesome, especially Tony, our waiter. Thanks again!
had a very enjoyable meal........staff very friendly and helpful......nice variety of choices on the menu.....reservations suggested......food was very good.....will return when in the area
The waitstaff was very attentive especially John who made our anniversary dinner special.
Sly's is our special go to place. Great food, service and friendly atmosphere. Everytime!
As always we had a great experience. The drinks, food & service is consistent & very, very good. There is something for everyone on the menu!
Generally speaking, we like the place, and have been there a number of times. Our less than stellar experience this time was the result of choices. The chicken pot pie was underwhelming and fairly tasteless, while the Osso Buco was quite beautifully prepared, but very skimpy, at $37.
Great food and service as usual. Steaks were awesome, as was the crab Louie. Attentive service, nice wine selection too
Great place. Great meal. Good value.
By far one of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time.
Always a feel good time when I'm at Sly's! Best menu in all of Santa Barbara! Carpinteria is very fortunate. The best part is I live around the corner, which is very dangerous!
