Started with an excellent pear blue cheese and cashew nut salad. All ingredients complimented each other. Main meal was the caribou medallions. Meat was lean and flavorful accompanied by a fig mixture and assured veggies. Wine by glass options were limited in choice but did enjoy both the Pinot and Malbec.
Chocolate decadence for dessert lived up its name and was the best dessert I have had for a long time.
Excellent food, and a great evening had by all. Service and selection were perfect
The food was really excellent. The service started off strong, but then the restaurant seemed to be overwhelmed and understaffed as our waiter was also tending bar and seemed to be servicing the lounge area. The restaurant then also allowed young kids to run around and another kid to throw snowballs at the window outside for ten minutes, which was really jarring. But, the food really was great and it was, overall, a very lovely dinner. Even the craziness of the undisciplined kids was somewhat entertaining for the novelty and brazenness of it all.
Had a great meal. All of the proteins (beef, bison and caribou) were cooked perfectly. My only suggestion would be to offer some reasonablely priced bottles of wine.
One of our most favourite places to dine in Banff. The caribou medallions are to die for. Great place, great service, superb food. Can’t say enough great things about it
We had a lovely date at your restaurant
Caribou medallions were the most tender cut of meat I've ever had. Ordered medium rare is the perfect temperature. Okanagan pinot recommended by Kyle was excellent! Fantastic, genuine service & lovely room. Thanks for a great time!
We were celebrating our first anniversary. The food was fantastic, cooked perfectly and amazing flavours. In two mains and two appetizers we were able to have duck, elk, bison and caribou. Drinks were quick to table and service was well paced, we didn’t feel rushed at all. Very highly recommend
This restaurant is a safe bet if you have picky people with you. Everything was 'fine'. Nothing blew us away or intruiged us. Mains were not all too flavorful, which is strange since they were both nice cuts. Appis were fine. Service was fine. Wine was fine. Would rather go somewhere more exciting to spend that kind of money.
New Years Eve Dinner with my girlfriend....not just pleasantly surprised but blown away by the food. I had tenderloin and elk - AMAZING. The meat was like butter!. GF had scallops - again...AMAZING. Service was great, wine list was very nice and overall we loved this place! Not sure of the usual pricing but based on the food we were served it is on our return list!
Fantastic dining experience in an incredible facility. The ambiance was great for a couples night out. Service was exceptional. The menu selections were diverse and delicious. I had the Caribou cooked perfectly medium rare and the Buffalo Pho. Exquisite. We will go back every time we're in Banff.
Wile the food was good for the price it wasn't execptional
Everything was great but the service was excellent!
We had a reservation the place was empty and we wanted to sit on a four top the waiter said we could not. huh why not he the sat four other duces on big tables.we order a ceaser salad the anchovies were inedible . Entrees were ok final bill was $200 .
Always come to Sleeping Buffalo when we are in Banff. Lovely touch on dessert plate saying Happy Birthday. We have never had a bad meal there. We specifically go for the Caribou! Love it.
Fabulous food, friendly and attentive service. This is a relatively expensive restaurant, but we are never disappointed when we go.
We went to the souviener shop by mistake. The restaurant is located on Tunnel mountain.
There were lots of parking and the staff was wonderful.
The food was even better. the dish I wanted to try was sold out so I decided to try the caribou and it did not disappoint. Very tender and flavourful, even my picky eater 5 year old loved it.
Will definitely return if we make it back to Banff in the future.
We had a lovely meal as part of the Taste of Banff promotion. I was especially impressed with how accommodations were willingly made for my food intolerances. Thank you!
we went for the taste of Banff menu and were very pleased with the meals. We will be back. The service was excellent and the ambiance was great
Went for the Taste of Adventure menu and it was excellent. Great value. Be aware that there wine selection is on the pricier side. Not sure what the value is like on the regular menu but this was great. My duck was cooked perfectly.
On a side note went for breakfast the next morning and overall that was pretty disappointing, so I'd try somewhere else for breakfast.
The food was delicious, really enjoyed how well they prepared the game meats. Service was excellent. I would definitely go back.
The food was wonderful and the service excellent. My husband and I had a very enjoyable meal.
It was our first time to Sleeping Buffalo and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Great ambience and good food - a wonderful combination...
We were staying in the neighborhood and stumbled across this dining room, glad to find it. It is very comfortable, with tables set far apart, and the staff was gracious.
The food was a bit disappointing: my steak was flavorful but not at all tender; my husband's caribou was "ok" but his black rice was white and dry; everything came rather tepid. The best food on our plates (a stalk of broccoli and a piece of carrot) was negligible but not over cooked.
I started with a hot toddy that was small, expensive ($12 I think), watery, and not potent.
A few nights later we had dinner in the fireplace lounge adjacent to the dining room. Again, the staff was welcoming and professional. I had two appis (soup and Ahi tuna); my husband had the caribou burger. Not great, but convenient, comfortable, and saved us a drive into town.
The Food was fantastic! We were looking for a place to celebrate our anniversary! Also we wanted to try something special like elk or bison.
It was delicious!
Wonderful dining experience in a marvellous mountain setting
The food was absolutely amazing! I don't usually eat game meats, but the bison pate was particularly wonderful. Our servers were excellent. They were well versed in the food and drinks we were interested in having. It was one of the best dinners I have ever had.
Disappointed after a recommendation from our hotel. Steak was not the greatest quality.
Just outstanding! Everything from the food to the service to the ambiance was wonderful! A bit pricey, but worth it for a special occasion!
The food was excellent and the service was very friendly and efficient. I would highly recommend this as one of the best restaurants in Banff
The food was pretty good, very pricey, and I ordered the artisan salad and it was so drenched in dressing it was inedible!! It was my sons birthday so I didn't want to make a fuss so I didn't send it back, but the waitress saw it was uneaten and didn't volunteer to bring me another with less dressing (I told her it was too much dressing). Given the fact that we had ordered the most expensive entrees on the menu, I thought this was obnoxious. In addition, you have to ask for bread with your meal. We ordered a lot of food as my young sons were climbing a big mountain the next day--and the waitress made a comment that it was so much food did we really need bread?!!! I mean, I really thought that was inappropriate and ignorant of how much young fit 21 year old boys can eat! Frankly, I don't go to an expensive restaurant to have comments made about our order.
We went to sleeping buffalo for an intimate birthday celebration. Overall the food was well prepared and did not disappoint. The restaurant was a little noisier then expected this could be due to the size and the mix of families with couple diners.
I was responsible for selecting a restaurant for a group of colleagues. Always a high pressure situation when you aren't from the area. I was delighted with the relaxed, quiet ambiance, the charming decor, and the fantastic food. My caribou was delicious.
The caribou is the real winner but the elk and bison run a very close second. The vegetable accompaniment was tasty and artfully arranged. A real winner all around. Our server was wonderfully warm and knowledgable. Best of Banff.
Excellent food with a very nice selection of entrees. The elk was superb and there are several offerings for just about anyone's taste. Don't miss out on the exceptional desserts. The berry tart was the perfect end to a lovely meal. Excellent wine list. Highly recommend.
We tried the Bison short ribs, caribou medallions, and Elk. They were all excellent... beautifully seasoned reductions some served with wild mushrooms. Even the salads were outstanding.
They also had a another dining room with a large fireplace (under a mounted Bison head); it was all very comfortable.
The service too was quite good.
We were so impressed we requested ROcky Mountaineer to include it in their quarterly magazine. Though I don't know how they make those choices anyway.
Lovely quiet evening to share a dining experience. Lost track of time and spent nearly 3 hours and never felt rushed. The food was incredibly delicious with a great balance of flavors and wonderful service from staff.
Our experience at the Sleeping Buffalo was great. We stayed at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge for our first year anniversary and had a great dining experience. Food was delicious and the restaurant has an amazing grand cabin vibe going for it. Service was amazing and very friendly. The only downside was the price of the food (which they aren't trying to hide it's on the menu before you walk in), and the lack of cocktails. The happy hour is amazing! $6 drinks potent enough to down an Ox but the selection was very limited. If I remember correctly their were only 4 signature cocktails on the menu. Beer menu was great, but if you aren't into beer (like my wife) than you are a little limited. Lounge has a different/more affordable menu than the main restaurant which we didn't initially know about but menu's were good. Would definitely recommend going especially if it is for a special occasion where you don't mind spending a little extra money.
Mostly happy with the overall experience, but it was spoiled by very slow service and some irritating errors over our breakfast order.
